View Full Version : Grading Advice for '86 Fleer Dominique Wilkins

I have never sent off any '86 fleer to be graded so I'd like to ask for some advice. I picked up this Dominique yesterday at an old shop for $2 and I thought it may be worth grading. I'm including several pictures. The biggest issue condition wise is the right edge.

Question 1: Does it look to be worth grading from the pictures?
Question 2: Would PSA be best to send this card to if its worth grading?
Question 3: What grade would you think it would likely receive?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Nice score for $2. Are those surface scratches by the Fleer logo on the front? If I had to guess probably a 6, nice centering though.

Centering is a 10, but edges will kill the grade. I would also say 6-7........

1. Go to ebay and look at completed listing prices for Dominique Wilkins Fleer RC cards graded by PSA in grades 2,3,4,5, and 6.
2. Realize it will cost a minimum of $25 to have the card graded (including shipping both ways, etc.)
3. Decide if it is worth the time/energy/effort/cost to grade the card.

If you follow these three steps you will quickly realize that no, it is not worth grading. The right side will destroy the grade.

I would say 6.5

Yeah, psa.gems can fix the edges and corners for you no problem, but I'm not sure he's mastered getting rid of print defects. He'll figure out a way soon enough.

I'd send it in, just so I could have it slabbed, in my opinion.

I haven't checked the completed listings, but could he buy a PSA 6 in nicer condition for less than it would cost to grade it?

Send it to BCCG. You will get a 9. Maybe even a 10 if the grader got lucky the night before.

After grading fees and shipping both ways, list it on eBay, pay theirs and PayPal fees and you "shoud" net a profit and double your $2 investment. Not bad, eh ? .......................

In all seriousness, save your money and time, and just enjoy the card :)!

No the surface looks very good. Thanks for the advice everyone. I went to an old shop last night and looked through boxes of cards for hours. He basically just had older cards. I picked up these for $20. Nothing great, but enjoyed hearing all of his stories. He moved to Kentucky from the Bay Area around 10 years ago so he had a lot of stories about the Bash Brothers.

The Thome is an Essential Credentials Now /299 and the Jamison is a refractor jersey 4/50 (jersey number if I'm not mistaken)

Good question. I just did a quick skim on my phone and it looks like a psa 7 will be in the 30-40 range
