1984 Star Michael Jordan #101 - 7 vs. 9 Centering Subgrade

Recently graded the 7.5 myself and just purchased the 7 already graded. I am thinking BGS graders are grading the centering on these blindfolded.

The 7 is centered slightly better but that corner is 10x worse than the 7.5 from the photo.

The corner is fine. It's the surface of the card that makes the corner look damaged. I'd assume the card was removed from a team bag and the surface was stuck to the bag.

The centering on the 7.5 is worse left to right and up and down. It depends on what the back looks like as well.

Centering is the only non-subjective grade assuming they measure it correctly. You could always measure it yourself and see if you find a discrepancy.

I agree the centering on the 7.5 is worse than that of the 7. But I don't see how it is two full grades worse.

Mine with 8 centering looks similar to both these as well. Seems like just a guess lol

Surface flaws on each of the bottom 2 corners. Nothing other than that though.

The 7.5 looks diamond cut. T/R also looks worse than the one with 9 centering.

If it ever gets to the point where you are losing sleep over it, just get rid of the ugly duckling and I'll be more than happy to adopt it :)!

So, if not selling..is the seller not you using a stolen scan??
I would def say your 7.5 card centering grade is much more accurate than the 7card grade centering. I think they were generous on your 7 so you could get an overall 7 grade. From what I have seen, there is not a chance that is a 9 centering for this card. I have seen very few with a 9 centering given by Beckett. This one is not similar to those at all. When it is all said and done, different people are grading these and people make mistakes. Either way, great cards and I think the overall Beckett grades are pretty accurate even though the subs are so inconsistent. Beautiful cards.

Scan is not stolen. My girlfriend received an eBay promo where the final value fee for any item is a max $20 fee, so I listed some higher end cards on her account. 7.5 is basically up there to see what kind of offers I'd get.

Diamond cutting kills the Centering grade. I avoid it at all costs. Very common on 1986 - 1988 Fleer Stickers.
