Field Level Preview: 2010-11 Panini Prestige Basketball

August 24, 2010 at 5:45 PM

At the end of September Panini will bring the first product of their second year of NBA cards, Panini Prestige. As with many brands which carry over multiple sports, much of the card design will be the same as 2010 Prestige Football that was released a few months ago although there are some wrinkles to make this product more focused on basketball. Prestige is the closest that Panini gets to a base card product and if football is any measuring stick, will hold its value until the season starts and further products are announced and released.

Release Date: September 29, 2010
Price Point: $4/pack or $75 per box at Blowout Cards.
Product Loadout: 8 cards per pack, 24 packs per box, 12 boxes per case.

Some of the things that Panini is promising with this product is the first NBA Licensed rookie cards of John Wall, over 20,000 on-card autographs and the first on-card autographs of the NBA Rookie Class including exclusive athletes Evan Turner and Wesley Johnson. They’re also promising the first autographs of Amar’e Stoudemire, Chris Bosh and Carlos Boozer with their new teams, except that as these are likely sticker autographs, this just means that they’re the first cards of those players that they’ve put the autograph stickers on. If these are on-card, I’ll be highly surprised.

Still, as the first NBA product of the 2010-2011 trading card season, these will likely do very well, as we’ll see at the end of September.

So, no John Wall Autos? Only his first rookie cards, and on-cards of Turner, Johnson, etc.?

How is that any different from Topps and Upper Deck??? They both had tons of parallels too. I'd rather have #'d parallels of the base set than just getting another unnumbered base card

Wall has auto's in there. At least he has one of those Draft Day on-card ones. He also has one of the Same Day Signatures or whatever its called in Limited. I'd imagine he'll have autographs in everything consider he signed a deal with Panini.

how is there 100 rookies

There aren't 100 different rookies, just different versions for each player, just like last year guys had 2 or 3 different variations

Did I say it was??

Upper Deck did it with SPx basketball in 08/09 and 09/10 Exquisite with some of the rookies
Topps did it with Topps Hardwood in 08/09
