I love this kids plate approach. Everyone might think I am crazy but I see him being the best all around hitter on the Cubs by 2017.
Sorry if one is already active. I did a search and didn't see one.

If Schwarber connected with a Chapman fastball I wonder how far it would fly.

Wow, just wow. Had a nice parlay go up in smoke with those two homers but it was totally worth it because it's the only reason I had that game on.
If he can figure it out behind the plate long-term he has the approach and the stick to be one of the GOAT catchers.

I'll be the first to admit I was dead wrong with Schwarber. I saw him live 2 games and didn't see a whole lot--should have known better than to use a small sample size like that. I thought people were crazy for buying in during the offseason, boy was I wrong.
Luckily I bought some before his initial call up, and did pretty well. But man, this kid is impressive. Terrific hitter.

Seems like he's got the potential to be big. However, he needs to learn to run after hitting the ball instead of standing at the plate admiring his work (especially since it was his 1st HR).

I love it how everyone's either wrong or right on this kid...after 11 games.
I'll wait for a bigger sample size. Though it is nice that he's off to a scorching hot start. The Cubs definitely needed a spark because the meat of their lineup has gone dry the past few weeks.

I agree, I think he is undervalued based on his current production. I can't comment on whether or not he's undervalued based on projected performance but I expected a bigger spike.

I absolutely LOVED watching this kid when he was in Bloomington. He and Sam Travis put Indiana Baseball on the map and helped get them to the CWS in 2014, and I'd held out hope that I could put together a sizeable prospect stash when he hit the draft.
Well, that didn't happen for me since his prices were gonzo out of the gate, but I am so happy to see him having so much success at every level he's been. As much as I loathe the Cubs, I hope he is in Chicago to stay AND he keeps raking. He might even force me to acquire a Cubs jersey with his name on the back....

So how did that whole 'hit anything and everything through his first year' thing go for guys like Puig?
It's 11 games lol. Clubs haven't even begun to study this guy and his tendencies. Anyone who isn't expecting a natural pull back through variance is living in la-la land. I'm a Cubs fan, so of course this is all cautious optimism. But the law of averages will catch up with him. I'd be VERY happy with a .280-.290 /30/95 hitting catcher...or anything close.

I was lucky to grab that base a couple days ago! It was so much fun to watch Schwarber this past series in Cincinnati. I was impressed with him this April in AA, but didn't expect him to be contributing so early in the big leagues. Sure, he'll come back down to earth, but his bat could be very special for the next 15 years or so. Seems like a pretty good kid too!

They said when they brought him up that it was only until Montero came back but he played his way into staying. They then said he won't catch every game and he doesn't. Why are you so upset over them doing what they said they'd do with him until he was more polished behind the plate?

Normally I would say you are spot on. Schwarber can't be compared to Bryant. The swing this kid has is more natural and you can tell his disapline is leaps and bounds above Bryant. I am certain you are correct about a slump. Slumps have happened to everyone to ever play the game. I still believe throuh 300ab Schwarber has a better average than Bryant without question. It doesn't seem that slump would last as long with this kid as it would with Bryant based on the fact that he doesn't seem to get frustrated. Schwarber also doesn't have the pressure on his back that Bryant has and that is a huge burden to carry.

KB thru 54 gm was at .294 with ob% of .400....schwarber has 30 games to go before he gets to that mark....bold prediction is that he will not be over either number....
now saying this...i am a fan of his...and of bryants...i just stumbled in here and notice how some cubs fans seem to be done with KB and just care about this kid...when all he has is 1 total months worth of stats...
his slugging will prob stay higher cuz yes KB started off really slow there...so he was down in the .300s for a bit...and slumping now...i just think its crazy to say this kid is just better and has brighter future based on his 75ab...

It was the same thing with Joc. Everyone was all up on his Joc after his ridiculously hot start. That is the way it works.. I do think Schwarber and Bryant will probably be similar long term though.

Yes he was, and now the floor has fallen out from under him, and he's sitting at .246/.355 respectively. This, with a .350 BABIP, which is unlikely to get any better (so the drop may very well continue). I think the reason Schwarber shows a brighter future than Bryant right now is simply because he's been better than Bryant. He's younger than Bryant, and he appears to have more power than Bryant. Can Schwarber sustain ... we'll see.
There may be a switch to flip for both players where that changes, but don't make it sound like Schwarber came out of nowhere. Kyle was performing just as well as Bryant in the minor leagues at both the AA and AAA level, and was doing so a full year younger. The only thing that was different between the two was the national level of attention.

Does anyone think it's remotely possible for schwarber to win ROY if he continues his current pace for the next 32 games? He would be around these stat lines .315 15 hr 70 rbi in about 70 games. He has been the spark plug. Anyone think he has a chance?

No, because Duffy should match Schwarber's batting average, hit around 15 HRs himself, and have close to 20-30 RBIs more than Schwarber....oh and maybe 80 hits more...so not even close.

they vote after season...before playoffs...so it has no affect on him winning....them making the playoffs would affect it but not him hitting .400 in playoffs or anything...

i think he could squeeze up to 3rd maybe in the voting...but i still think the guys that have been up for majority of year will be 1-2 ....and only way he even gets to 3rd again is if he does what you posted which is keep everything going pace-wise...
i still think duffy or bryant win it tho...bryant will win if he has even a semi-hot streak for a week or two where he hits 5-6 bombs in 12gms or something...

He's goin thru a slump yes, but it's a combination of playing pretty much everyday to include facing lefties, and being up in the major's for a good period of time that teams are making adjustments to him. As a cubs fan, I wouldn't mind having either a KB or Schwarber card, which I do have cards from both. As a retired vet, who has a lot of time and has watched every single cubs game this year, Schwarber will be fine unless he cannot make adjustments himself. He's just like any prospect, rookie, or major league player who had to make adjustments and teams make adjustments to how they pitch him. What's going to separate him or Bryant and make them elite or special is to reach a point of harper or trout, where teams have almost tried every adjustment there is and just have to pitch safe to them and hope they get themselves out. Also with Schwarber, He is facing lefties on reg bases too, other than the game sale pitched. There are veterans in the league that don't face lefties when pitch. Look at how long it took for Rizzo to be comfortable facing lefties. Just looking at both Schwarber and Bryant, my eyes tell me that Schwarber just looks for nature up at the plate, willing to change swing pattern and swing where he thinks the ball is. With Bryant he looks to have the same swinging motion like he is in the batting cage. My heart says, I don't care what they are looking like, just glad we have something to talk about on the north side, besides losing and years of bust prospects that were deemed to be saviors...
i think Rizzo is going to backdoor the MVP this year
A video of that would sell pretty well on the internet

my fantasy league site had an article up about ole Schwarbs...it did not paint an overly positive picture...i remember basically being the most negative on him on a few threads last yr before season and again last yr in the world series thread where he was added to roster...
but(and i know its still such a small sample size even though he has been around for a few years now) i must say i believe more and more in my opinions and guesses than what everyone else kept saying...
so far this year he is under .200....310obp or so....350slg...ops+ of 80....Negative WAR player so far...horrendous start...
so many posts in here and other threads after his callup saying he was the better of him/KB...he just was so much more natural at the plate...blah blah blah...
i am not bumping to brag as the season is still fresh but its our first look at him playing regularly in a while...
do you guys still think this kid is gonna be something super special??
his career numbers now are still only about 2/3 of one full season....338ab...
.228/.342/.441/.783....OPS+ 113 now...total bWAR of 0.6 ....20hr/55rbi in 97gms....53bb/114k in 338ab...which is just over 33.3% k-rate...
obviously since the last post in this thread KB won a MVP and has been a stud...KS missed all of '16...to make that WS comeback where he helped...but then this year starts and even though KB is kinda off to slow start as well he is still lightyears ahead of KS at everything...
idk...anyone still fully on board with Schwarber as much as they were back in '15 after his hot start?? starting to doubt a little bit how good he might be?? or just think im being a dick and bumping to brag?? im not...i just really am curious to see what some of his supporters think...

I'm a Cubs fan and from what I've seen is that he is exposed as the leadoff hitter. He is pressing to get on base and the pitchers haven't had to throw him anything good because there is a base open and Bryant wasn't hitting either.
He's batting .172 w/ the bases empty.

I think being in the leadoff position he may be putting undue pressure on himself. I would like to see how he does if he were to be moved into a more appropriate spot in the lineup such as 5th or so.

Ive always assumed he was a .270/30/100 type of a slugger. With the bad start I dont think its all that crazy for him to turn it around and return to what he should be. His batting average will probably end up .250 range for this season but Id like to see more driving of the ball. I can understand the strikeouts being a concern, however, he does also walk a ton. Wil Myers is killing it so far and has 36 Ks and 2 walks. His job is to start the machine and then to capitalize on the order turning around.
