I'm a Yankee fan but not an A-Rod fan but I am obviously pleasantly surprised by all he's done this season... but to have a 3 HR game, was not expecting that.:flex: Yanks up 8-5:coffee:

i don't know if forgive is accurrate. we don't really have a choice. it's hard to root for the team and then see him at bat and want him to K. same with all the steroid guys from braun and melky to ortiz and bonds... any guys suspected or admittedly with roids just leaves the fan in a weird place.
in fairness, he's been very humble and quiet all year, saying all the right things.

I'm a RSox fan and all for hating the Yankees. Even in his heyday, I could never marvel at his accomplishments. The only disclaimer I can give is that I own some vintage Mantle, but I justify it because we're from the same state.
With his inevitable barring from the HoF, are people softening up on him due to "what he's been through"?
Three HRs in a game is pretty special when the hitter isn't juiced up, even more so when they're 39-40.
Either way, great night, but eff you A-Rod.

That's not fair. The Yankees absolutely do not tolerate cheaters in any way, shape, or form.

Ortiz is a bit of a lightning rod because he talks, and he is tangentially sorta connected to what A-Rod did, they say. But if he was still hitting .300 and slugging .550, few would care if he lagged coming out of the batter's box once in a while.
I guess my point is, I think a majority of fans will still look at overall results on the field more than anything else, so Ortiz' popularity is waning some - but A-Rod's is on the upswing some.

It trips me out the reaction of some people in this thread. Rodriguez lied and denied for years, essentially spitting in the face of baseball fans. Now he says my bad, and smiles for the cameras it's all ok?
There are some things that you can't come back from. His willingness to violate the integrity of the game for years and then lie about it repeatedly are unforgivable. He should be reminded of it every single day until the day he retires and hopefully disappears into obscurity.

As far as BN's comment, Ortiz has never been the master of hustle. He could pull a hammy if he breaks 11mph.
I really think he needs to retire. He still has the same HR swing, but his eyes/HE coordination are failing him. For what he's done for the RSox, I can never be a hater. It's like saying Griffey Jr needed to quit during '08.
Keep him next year to mentor and play in 100-120 games at DH, then let him go.

Watch the replay. Once he knows the ball is bobbled he goes 0-60 in less than a second but it's far too late. He can do it...he chooses not to.
Look..David...THANK YOU for everything! I can't say it enough....easily in my top three favorite Red Sox players ever. There is no denying what he has meant to the franchise.
But as he as aged his bitching has taken on a whole new level...and it's more than this Red Sox fan can take!

Speaking of Babe, how awesome would it be if Arod passed him? Haha, maybe then they would show some pause in cheering for him. Yanks fans were cheering for him the first game that they played at Camden Yards this year. That's why I stopped going to NY Giants home games, even though I'm a huge fan. My own team's fans annoy the living bejesus outta me.

This right here is why I was overjoyed that Arte Moreno shipped off Hamilton even though it was a horrible financial and baseball decision. I hate having a player on my team that I refuse to root for and while I understand Yankee fans being happy with the wins that he is providing, wins alone shouldn't make you cheer for someone as despicable as A-rod. Then again, I've always lived by the motto 'I'd rather lose with integrity than win without it'.

Funny story regarding Arod from this year.
I'm the GM of a business, and Arod walked through said business one afternoon. It was 3:15 in the afternoon, and they were playing at 7:00. I thought that was strange. Anyway, we were hosting an event that had a mascot. My assistant was in the mascot costume. My establishment was pretty packed at the time with Yankees fans nonetheless. Without seeing Arod at first, I greeted the woman with whom he was walking behind. I then saw Arod, and he had a "please nobody recognize me" look on his face while wearing his sunglasses INSIDE. Well, back to my mascot, you have absolutely no peripheral in that damn thing. There was a narrow path that Arod was trying to walk through, and he couldn't get past my mascot. When Arod zigged, my assistant zigged etc. They tangoed for a good 15 seconds, and I was just praying that Arod would throw him to the side so that we could further vilify him.

Agreed. However neither one of them should or will make the hall.
I am still amazed at the moonshots. Most if not all of his 23 are no doubters at the age of 40 and personally like the comeback/redemption story. If I was him I would retire after this year and have my final roid free year be memorable given the circumstances.

Didn't realize it was that difficult to comprehend the post ...Just found it ironic that a guy with a Ray Lewis avatar would play the morality card about A-Rod and rail against his "unforgivable" actions. I was being facetious for the most part. I know what he's driving at. I've had many a debate sidelined with an allusion to my avatar, as if that negates the matter at hand. I mean why should people focus on the actual topic when you can just point to an avatar, which has nothing to do with anything, and divert the topic.
Oh, and i'll just leave this here. I don't really have any interest in diverting the topic any more nor am I a Ravens homer/defender but occasionally facts need to be shown...

Arod has never failed a drug test. He was outed by third parties and not by the testing system that was put in place by MLB. For all we know, some of the other guys that you may consider heroes right now may also have been using when Arod was. They just weren't outed by third parties. What he is doing right now is amazing. What he did before roids was amazing. He's a Hall of Famer, through and through. Not saying he has a halo on his head, but it is time to stop judging players by their ethics and just stick to the stats. Every current statistic has an asterisk near it. Get over it.

Assuming he's not on roids now, it's incredible what he's been able to do at 40. During his prime, w/o roids I could still see him being a consistent 30/100/.300 a year. Like you say, it's a shame that he really ruined his career when he didn't even need an artificial boost to be great.

Well all these roid posts and Lewis posts just prove one thing, fans are gonna root for their teams and against their rivals. If one player who is a bad guy or did a bad thing or even might have are on your team you are probably still gonna be in their corner.

Yea its the same with Bonds, Clemens etc. These guys who are great would likely be great anyway. THe guys who are avg. or pretty good might become good or very good on roids. But the big name guys are HOF players either way. Some people just believe everyone cught cheating should be kept out. These are the same people who still want Rose out of the HOF forever. But unfortunately for these people, they choose to ignore that from consistently doctoring balls and bats to greenies to speed to roids, HGH and other recovery/growth+ substances, we already have a ton of people in the hall who have broke the rules. It's not the hall of morals so unless we are taking out Willie Stargell types we have to eventually let these 80s/90s guys in.

LOL He got a case of amnesia so of course the guys were acquitted. He also provided the limo that was in the middle of the whole fight and took bullets but has no memory. People forget that. They drop that old tired narrative link that doesn't address that. He had to choose to do the right thing on the stand or cover up for his boys. They even changed the law as how the plea agreements are made in exchange of testimony. The same denial fans have with ARod they have with Ray Lewis. Hey at least he found god out of convenience though. Arod should just do that
I just want to know where the white suit is that Ray was wearing.

agreed, although I believe that Bonds was a much better player before roids. He was already well on his well to the 500/500 club and HOF before steroids got into the picture. I am not sure the same can be said for Arod.
The other thing that hurts Bonds is his total A**hole attitude he had while breaking Aaron's record and retiring.

I like arod for some reason. I think growing up in the steroid Era has made me very nastalgic about those players.
And nostalgic!

Still and always will be a transcendent talent. Roided or not. And nobody can sit here and slander Arod while definitively defending their own personal favorite new era player(s) stating they've always done it the 'right way.' Because in this age, nobody can be placed outside the shadow of doubt. It's just the media who dictates who are the darlings and who are the villains.
