I check Craigslist occasionally here and rarely do I find something worthwhile to take a look at. This ad caught my attention and I thought I would at least take a look. The guy is asking $100 for the two boxes and posted this picture:

I know football, but am not a football card expert. Does this look worthwhile to anyone else? Appreciate any help you guys can give - Thanks!

Hard to say, but it appears to be mostly $1-2 cards, at best. Doesn't seem worthwhile unless there are some hidden 90's gems in there, which isn't likely the case since the owner appears to have used this as his discount box at a show.

my first gut feeling is no

based on ---

it appears they all have the same price sticker and seem to be well organized. this would lead me to believe the seller either did shows, or maybe even flea markets. IF that is the case, then he knows what is in the boxes, and they have been picked through. if that is not the case, and someone just ended up with these somehow (family member, friend, etc) then possibly worth it.

there has to be about 1,000 cards, so roughly $0.10 each

Looks like people have already sorted out the good ones.

I sent him a couple more questions. Appreciate the help so far guys.

He does have OBO on the lot and the ad shows as listed 28 days ago. There haven't been any card shows in my area for a long time (like 12+ years) and no real flea market activity either. It does look like a box someone would set up with at a show, but hard to tell exactly what there is without looking through it a bit. If they turn out to be $1-2 value cards, I would be okay with it...my immediate thought was that it would be a COMC purchase for me.

I know what the Walter Payton is and the Emmitt Smith at the front - does anyone recognize the Peyton Manning or Dan Marino that are showing?

Offer about 50 cash and it might be worth the risk.

I'd do it for $50 for the fun aspect alone...

That list of names makes it look like he probably hasn't touched this box since 2001

it is not the '96 litho-cel card, it is definately pacific from 96-98, probably only worth a couple of dollars. they had a few insert sets that were similar looking

the manning appears to be this 2000 Collectors Edge Graded (there are 21 on COMC as low as $0.95)

Not a great COMC flip IMO. Too many cards that will sit without selling at a price that covers all your costs.
Decent profit potential if you set up at shows - lots of superstars/HOFers who will sell well at 25 cents to 50 cents.
Very fun if you're buying to add to your collection, especially if you don't already have most of the base from the late '90s.
I'd offer $60.

Definitely worth the fun at that price. At worst, you'd break even and still have fun.

I appreciate the input guys - I'm meeting the guy in the morning to look through the cards. He said he had a few other older cards he could bring along as well, so we will see what happens.

Just an update on this. I met the guy this morning and purchased both boxes from him. In addition I grabbed a 1994 Topps Baseball Jumbo Box, 1986 Topps Baseball Box, and around 100 random baseball cards he had in a shoebox. I spent a total of $80 on everything. These cards look like they've been sitting in a closet since the early 2000s and were indeed left over from someone who did a show circuit.

I'm about 60% done going through things and it turned out to be a pretty solid purchase. I have a box of around 500-600 cards that are COMC ammo. Nothing mind blowing with the highest value on a card around the $8-10 range. Lots of stuff in the $1-3 range which is perfect. Around 15% have no other copies on site or have never been listed. Lots of fun stuff to look through as well...the late 90's was an amazing time for set design. I was able to give all of the Broncos (Elway, Griese, and Davis - as well as some odds and ends) to my brother in law. He's not an active collector, but loves getting Broncos cards from me. Still have Owens, Aikman, Bettis, Bledsoe, Marino, and an entire row of misc. stuff to go through.

I'll probably try bulking out by player first at a low price to see how that goes and then figure out what to do from there.

The baseball boxes were mostly just for a fun rip with my son. We'll probably put together the sets. The baseball extras were a really good value - Jeter RC, Mattingly RC, and around 50 cards to send in to COMC from the group. The left over stuff will work perfectly for my quarter sales.

Great purchase, OP. I'll be interested to see what 90's parallel cards you put up on COMC!
