I am trying to complete the 2001 Topps Chrome Traded Retrofractor set. Most of the card values seem pretty normal, except for #261 Irvin Guzman. That card is valued at (and normally priced at) the same as the Pujols/Ichiro Rookie of the Year card.
What is the reason for this? I have never even heard of the guy.

Here's what I see in my (old) Beckett:
The Guzman books for $50 as the low price, the Ichiro/Pujols books for $60. Doesn't make sense but it's Beckett, so that's not really a surprise.
It looks like the Ichiro/Pujols usually sells for a little bit short of 100:

The Guzman is currently on sale for $11 on COMC:

In the past, it has sold for 10-15 on COMC, nothing still on eBay.
I'm far from an expert on that set, but they don't seem close at all. The card is still really expensive for the set, but not that bad. Any chance you are comparing the Guzman retrofractor to the ichiro/pujols regular chrome? Those seem to be about the same price.

No, I am comparing what they are listed for on eBay. One is $59.99 and one is $100. I just picked one up on COMC. Thanks for pointing that out.

That's what happens when sellers set the price. My guess is that one seller saw the book price and how much the Ichro/Pujols sells in comparison to BV and did that too. No clue how Beckett got their number, but I don't think anyone ever does.

People on eBay have a sickness where they like to overprice their cards based off of what other cards are listed for. For instance, an eBay seller decides to sell an auto of a player that usually sells for $5. He decides to list his for $50 OBO. Then Joe Random sees it while browsing the bay and says "hey, i have that card!" And he decides to sell his and bases the price off of the seller that has his listed for $50. So he lists his for $45 and says in the description "STEAl! eBay 1/1! Mojo! Recent sales have been listed for $50!" And so on and so forth.

I understand all of that, and I know that Beckett prices are way out of line, but they aren't usually that far off. I just have never heard of the guy, and thought maybe it was a short print or something.
Thanks for the help.
