I may be wrong on this research. If so, I hope someone will correct me....

So, some of you may know about my on-going battle with Topps over a dual logo patch book from five star. These are supposed to be logo patches from game used jersey's. Here is the only one I've heard of being live: 2013 Five Star Miguel Cabrera Prince Fielder Dual MLB Logo Patch Auto D1 1 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-FIVE-STAR-MIGUEL-CABRERA-PRINCE-FIELDER-DUAL-MLB-LOGO-PATCH-AUTO-d1-1-/171871545711?hash=item280457a96f)

One of the patches in mine is supposed to be Cal Ripken, Jr. They say they are still waiting on the patch, so I decided to see if I could help them and locate a jersey with one myself. I found many game used Ripken jersey's but I noticed, none of them had logomen on them.

So I did some digging.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_uniforms

"Jerseys have featured an MLB logo on the back collar since 2000, whereas MLB on-field caps have featured an MLB logo on the back since 1992"

Unless they're using logomen off the cap, which, based on the ebay link above, they aren't, that means there is only two seasons worth of jersey's that would available to take a patch off. Pretty slim pickings.

HOWEVER.....

....that is nothing compared to some of the other logo patch books "inserted" into 2013 five star!

Here's the checklist. Pay attention to the names in bold and italics:

The names in bold played THEIR ENTIRE CAREER without a jersey with a logo patch. Those in italics played significant portions without them. How in the hell did Topps expect to make these cards? Did they even check? What the hell!!!

Since Topps has given me some fairly insulting replacement offers and has yet to respond to my repeated requests to see what comps they are using to price my card, I'm now asking to speak to a supervisor about the situation.

At that time, unless they substantially increase their replacement offer, I will let them know what I have fund about the logo patches and inform them of my intent to pursue action via the BBB and, if necessary, the legal system since they sold a product, knowingly or not, that they cannot possible produce.

If anyone else is awaiting a product from a retired player that includes a logoman patch, I'd be very wary......

Why does the ebay link prove that they are using Jerseys? Maybe I am missing something there but it seems like it could very well be from the cap.

However, if this is true then really the only card that couldn't be made is Bob Gibson and Schmidt, since they didn't play in the '90s.

I am not a Jersey expert, but I wouldn't put it past Topps to not know about this.

Although I don't think you can take them to court since your card can be made, if they find a cap/Jersey.

I would guess that the size of the logoman on the caps are smaller.

Yes, this. The cap logo is much smaller.

Either that or something from spring training. Many players wear team uniforms when they are serving as guest instructors.

Curious, what is the size difference? I didn't think the one on the jersey would be that big so I always assumed they were the same size.

I pulled a Nolan Ryan Logoman out of Sportkings. It was off his hat.

Well it was half of one. And I sold it to Wheeler.

Or, how about this:

Actually make a card before it's released, insert into packs, and get rid of redemptions completely. This problem wouldn't exist.

Mind. Blown.

And see sales drop 50%.

I hate redemptions as much as the next guy, but sometimes they're required or you'll be missing some key names. Maybe not so much in baseball, but everyone knows what would happen to football box prices with Odell and Teddy with 0 autos in some products (like NT) last year.

I probably wouldn't have half of my PC as it stands now w/o redemptions, all the way back to my 2001 Pujols BC to all the Five Star Duals/Quotables.

ORRRRRRR....

How about make promised of some of the SICKEST cards you can imagine, put them into packs as a redemption, have collectors go bat sh*t crazy buying boxes and cases looking for said cards, have one "lucky" collector pull the redemption, make them wait 5 years until they scream "UNCLE!" and replace it with a Duke Snider autograph from a nameless set?

I could run my own card company with ease.

Not buying it unless it features artwork like this. (http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2014/04/13/71988116/a-group-of-children-sketched-the-headshots-for-the-phillies-lineup)

For some players they could use the laundry tag as they did for my Eckersley here.
Retiring in 1998, that's the only option for a logoman from Eckersley and this is the only one I've ever seen for him.

Before the strike, they were technnically playing in the National League or American League. The balls were signed by the league Commissioner until the world series. There may not even be a logo on the laundry tag pre-strike.

Also remember a lot of the older veterans/HOF were also coaches after their player careers which would give the chance for the pre 2000 players to still have a logoman patch card. Sure it isn't game used, and to a lot of us that collect the super old wool patches there is a lot of research done before purchasing to see if the material used was from a playing day or from a coaching day.

I saw Straight Outta Compton tonight. When I saw the MLB logoman erroneously on the backs of hats in the scenes that were supposed to be in the late '80s, I immediately thought of this thread!

Good movie, by the way.
