I really am enjoying picking these cut panels up on eBay for cheap.

I am interested in many cut panels, but the main theme of my collection so far has been AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!

I am trying to pick up many cards featuring Avengers saying this popular battle cry.

The key card of this collection is the very first time AVENGERS ASSEMBLE was ever uttered in comics (which was in Avengers #10):

I added a new Avengers Assemble pickup (now up to 8 posted), and a couple other new cut panels that came today. I have at least 3 more Avengers Assemble cards on their way, and I am always looking for more!

Although they're just pieces of a mass produced comic book, the theme and fact that they're numbered / limited makes these collectibles fun and appealing.

I think it's a great buying opportunity and the novelty and aesthetics will carry interest and value far more than the fact that they're cut panels from comic books, so does feel sustainable as collectibles and I see a good future ahead as investments too.

I still think this set was without a doubt my favorite release of 2015 and probably top 3 of all time (if not the top).

I just got such a kick out of picking up the cut panel cards. I think this was the first set that was able to completely merge my love of trading cards with my love of comic books. I stopped collecting comics like a decade ago, but this set brought me back a little bit.

Here is an example of another side collection I tried to put together when picking up these cut panels over the last few months. To me, nothing is more comic booky than a character dramatically saying their own name. This set had a TON of examples of this.

The cut panel cards were a box hit in this year's Avengers: Silver Age set put out by Rittenhouse.

I have well over 100 cards (for some issues I have multiple cards), BUT I still need about a dozen of the AV1-AV100 numbered cards to complete the full set. I hope to complete in 2016!

As a hardcore comic collector, just curious if you collect comics too? I sincerely hope they did not cut up an Avengers 1, 4 and 10 but just took pages loose from ebay etc in making these. Don't mean to threadkrap, nice collection.

I used to be a HUGE comic book collector. I stopped in the early 2000's though.

This set really scratched the itch of what appealed to me about comic books when I was a kid.

But yeah, they did cut up full comics... I am pretty sure. Maybe here and there they found lose pages, but I know they had cover card panels of AV 1 (which I missed out on) and AV4 (which is pictured upthread), so I think it is fair to assume they took the panels from full comics. The conditions of the key issues were beat up though. So it is not like they cut up a pristine copy of a key issue.

I guess it is the same as cutting up a baseball players jersey or bat and making dozens of cards from it. A lot of people think it is horrible to deface a collectible, but at the same time it gives more people the opportunity to own a share of a collectible they might not be able to afford.

I love these cut panels, but I agree it takes a bit to get over the fact that a comic book was cut up. By the same token, a lot of key comics are encapsulated and never again opened. At least with the cut panels the insides are seen.

It is all a matter of perspective. No opinion is right or wrong, and I can totally see your viewpoint.

I still hope more companies continue to add the cut panels though. They are fun to chase!

I really admire how your collection of these comic book panels has progressed. You have shown that the are multiple ways that these cards can be chased by incorporating themes. And because we have discovered that Rittenhouse has included more than one of some of the comic images, there's the possibility for more collectors can have a chance at creating a themed collection that's fun for them.

There are those that really can't stand the thought of comic books being cut up, even those that are in very poor condition, but I hope that these cards continue. I think it's a good thing to see the art of inside of the comic book. Usually we are only exposed to the covers and never know what's inside.

With the amount of cards needed to be inserted for this set, I wouldn't be surprised if Rittenhouse bought some loose pages also.

I don't disagree, but my reasoning was the exact opposite - with so many panels needed, it wouldn't be economical to buy a ton of loose pages. Also, I just don't see a ton of loose pages for silver age books. Seems much more common for golden age books. I think we can agree, Rittenhouse probably did whatever was most economical, and there were probably at least a few loose pages / missing covers / missing centerfolds in the mix.

I understand the perspective about cutting up old books, but I think it's okay since they are being "recycled" into an alternative collectible. They might even be sparking some new converts to collecting floppies :) Plus, there is the old adage, once they pay for it they are welcome to do with it as they please.

Impressive. I should take the time over Christmas and post my 65 plus cover cuts from Avengers Silver Age. Not sure I will have the time for posting my interior cuts.

I agree - it was a fun set with many, many cuts available cheaply. Only the one from Avengers 1 was a real cost.

Wow... 65 cover cuts!!! I would love to see them! Feel free to post them here or in your own thread. And yes, the price point on these made them fun to collect. I even opened a box the other day and got a cool Spidey cut from AV11, another fun cut, and a decent sketch... not bad for like $30ish shipped.

Also pulled this Neal Adams Cap panel from AV93 that I thought was cool. I think this is my only cut panel that shows both the left and right borders of a panel, so pretty much the whole comic panel fits within the card. Good job of cropping whoever created this one!

My guess is that this is the only time you ever see Iron Man (in full armor) driving a car with his head out of the window in his entire comics history. That, plus Cap and Giant Man trailing in back like they are water skiing makes for a fun panel... Don't try this at home kids!
