If only as much time and money was put into making a good game as marketing.

Yeah, I dont even know what to say about that whole "trailer." Completely unnecessary comes to mind.

I don't even know why EA spends money on marketing Madden anymore?
Not like there is any competition to take them out of the marketplace and everyone knows that it comes out the last week of August.
What a bunch of party poopers! Sh!t is hilarious!

Marketing generates the most revenue, the game can be crap, but if they spend millions on marketing they will generate pre-orders that will more than cover the cost of the game and the marketing any additional sales after that point is just gravy. In general they do not care how many Game Stop or whoever sells, all they want to know is how many they order

People seriously still pre-order? What's the last game that wasn't available on release day? Serious questions.
I play sports games on PS consoles, but stopped Madden a few years ago when it got really bad. Sticking to MLB the Show only, with a sprinkling of NHL some years.
No competition? No bueno. Oh wait, that's just like the sports card industry.

people preorder for the bonuses, it has nothing to do with securing a copy anymore.

This.... The bulk of the sales on these titles still comes from pre-orders.

Ahh ok, makes sense. That's a good incentive. Just not enough for someone like me who doesn't play online. I'm guessing it's usually MUT-related.
Movie looks good without sound, I'll have to watch it later on my phone or something. As always I will have to see game reviews from the first week to see how many game-changing bugs there are.

If you ever bought MUT packs with real cash, these are the fruits of your labor. Get ready for a carbon copy of Madden 15 just with updated rosters, all that cash went to make an awful mock movie trailer.

This made me think of the similarity between games and cards these days. People continue to pre order even though game after game is bugged and crap. The same as we keep pre-ordering / buying products that are crap. There's no incentive to stop selling crap when people keep eating that crap by the spoonful.

With the EA monopoly, we have little choice.
It's a good thing there isn't a subpar company with an exclusive NFL and/or NCAA licen.....crap.

For MUT, yeah it is typically pack related. For other games that obviously isn't the case. It may be a bonus mission/ access to a Beta, or outfits/playable characters and so forth.
Depending on the pre-order too, some places hold midnight releases for those with tournaments and stuff to win prizes.

What's wrong with the game?
People can put gold on a plate and someone will complain that it's not silver

I don't really get this comment? the game is pretty awesome in my opinion, the graphics look better than ever and I played the demo didn't really have any issue with it being buggy.......... people might need to curb the expectations a bit I mean we started out with stuff like tecmo bowl now we have stuff that looks almost like a real football game, it's not going to get much better than real life.

I just have high expectations for a 'simulation' game. The 2K series had done better with gameplay in general, while EA had a clear edge in the graphics, that is until they bullied them out with exclusive licenses (oh, that's where Panini got the idea :)!). What good is amazing graphics when you have to tweak the sliders so much to prevent weird bugs? It just kills it for me. I like to have games with realistic stats and everything, otherwise it's not fun.

1) If a minor bug is there at release...it'll be there forever. Make that fifty minor bugs and it becomes pretty noticeable day-to-day.
2) Crashes. Moving from the PS3 to the Xbox One didn't help. If I somehow graphed out the crashes per hour on all the games I've played in the last 4 years. The top 4 spots would be Madden by at least one magnitude. Madden...minimum of one crash per day. Any other triple AAA title...Well, most haven't crashed on me period. And I'm talking crashes on MENU screens.
3) MUT cash grab, the big one. Spent more last year than the prior three years combined. Their constant, unrelenting promos became ridiculous, yet I received less bang for my buck than any other year. MUT is as close to free money as they can get, and the price to have a great team is going WAY up. (And the Christmas promo was worse than ever last year. Contracts as part of a Christmas gift promo. Contracts.)
Normally I'd post seven more paragraphs about this. But EA is already somewhat notorious about ruining the industry. Battlefield 4 still has release bugs, as far as friends tell me. They've bought up many companies over the last 15 years, while eliminating the popular IPs they acquire OR sending them to mobile to butcher them (Ultima, Plants vs Zombies, etc...).
I'm stuck with Madden. Could be worse. But as a longtime gamer, EA has become the complacent king (RE: NBA Live).

Watching Live struggle so badly while 2k mops the floor with them is just fantastic.
I am shocked that EA hasn't bought the NBA off... Then again, I am sure it isn't for lack of trying.

I never hear anybody say "Ooo, I can't wait for NBA Live".
I think 2K has too strong of a following to get pushed out by EA. It's not just the superior game, but it's got such a strong tie with the culture of the typical NBA gaming fan with the music selections and celebrity backing and production credits.
