View Full Version : Thoughts on Adrian Rondon?

So I've been trying to pick up some 2015 Bowman now that it's been out for a while and everyone has been getting ready for 2015 Bowman Chrome (even though the checklist doesn't look that astonishing).
Adrian Rondon seems to be selling quite well despite the fact that he has struggled this year and he's in the Rays organization.
I realize he is super young, but what is the ceiling for this kid? Is he being compared to anyone in particular?
Recently I did the ebay classic where I was looking through BGS 9.5s and bid on a higher end Rondon card at the last second, thinking I wouldn't win it lol. I knew before bidding that a lot of people seemed to like the kid when 2015 Bowman came out and 9.5 grades are near impossible this year, plus he went for a lot in the 100 caser.
Just curious to see what other people think of this kid? Thanks for any info.

I guess no one wants to divulge any info lol.
I thought some people would have chimed in with some knowledge about this kid but oh well.

Reminds me of Jairo Beras when I first started.

You said it yourself. He's EXTREMELY young. That's the reason that even though he's been struggling this year his prices haven't really dropped.

I've graded several cards of his and a 9.5 is really tough. Was lucky enough to get a 9.5 green with my latest submission. I like him, and I'm not all that concerned with his struggles so far. If it's the same at this point next year, I'll start to worry.

Are 9.5s being tough exclusive for rondon or are you guys finding this to be the case across 15 bowman?

Maybe a little of both, but here are the 9.5's for Rondon:
16 base, 12 Ref. (+ 1 pristine), 4 blue, 4 green, 4 gold, 1 orange, 1 red.
So a total of 43 9.5's or better for Rondon, including only 14 color 9.5's. I doubt any others are at that low on 9.5's, especially considering the fact that his base sell well.. which means people would grade them if they were in decent condition.

A buddy of mine pulled one of his red autos. Feel free to make an offer and I'd be happy to send it his way.

And Leonardo Molina.
He's too far from big league ready to sustain these prices.
I'd sell as fast as I could. There is way too much that can go wrong in the next 4 years. Like Jairo and the break in his hand/wrist area.

Hamate...Same injury that Stanton is recovering from.
But yes, way too young for a "long term" investment at those prices.
Molina didn't drop nearly as much as Beras, but same idea.

Those are just the 9.5s correct? I imagine there is quite a bit fewer 9.5/10s

I don't have an opinion on his cards or talent

Correct. Just the 9.5's. Only 1 10 out there for any of his autos, and that's a refractor.

Sorry, meant gems with 10 autos. There was a few that gemmed with 9 autos last I checked

Oh gotcha. I didn't check that in depth, but yeah probably some 9 autos on those as well.
Crazy to think only 14 color 9.5's out there, out of the possible 375.. less than 4%. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a guy who has base autos selling $10+ minimum with that low of color 9.5's from the last few years.

Anyone with an opinion on what a gold would sell for right now? His prices have dropped but people seem to still be picking up color at pretty decent prices. Would it bring $200? Have the chance to pick one up in a lot so just trying to value it.

Thanks for all of the opinions guys. Hearing names like Beras and Molina definitely makes my stomach a bit uneasy after this purchase lol. Oh well though, it is what it is at this point. I don't impulse buy often.
Redsraysbball21- Based on current sales, I don't think $200 is that crazy. It might be a little high, but it depends on what his auto looks like and the condition of the card. For the most part 2015 Bowman cards are in rough shape.

Prices have come down and buy and hold of him would not be a bad thing at the moment. I have noticed his auto can get streaky and it is critical to look at that along with the centering, which is off on bc 2015 for sure.
As a 17 year old I think he has a ways to go, but if/when he gets going prices will spike pretty quick.

Could be Nomar Mazara, could be Ronald Guzman. With as pricey as they are already, and the lack of potential given his MLB team (not to mention he'll never play in a bandbox minor league park to inflate his stats), I'm staying clear.
