There was a seller on ebay a year ago selling 2012 Upper Deck Andrew Luck rookie autograph error cards. There were Exquisite, Spx and Sp Authentic error autograph cards that didn't have an autograph or the stamped serial numbers. I noticed someone had bought a few of the sp authentic error cards and forged Luck's autograph, then posted them to ebay. Because the real Sp Authentic autograph cards don't have a serial number, it appeared easy to fake the autographs and pass them off as real. Just this past week PWCC auctions posted a Luck sp authentic autograph that got graded a BGS 9.5. The autograph looks similar to ones i've seen in the past that were faked. I am not 100% sure if this autograph is legit, but if you look at any of the Luck sp authentic autographs there is a clear difference in signature. I own many of the sp authentic autographs and none of the signatures look like the one posted on ebay. I'm sure Beckett graded it because there is almost no difference between the error Luck card and the real card. Just a heads up to those looking to buy one.

Very easy to tell the difference in the "Luck" and the inscribed "12", as his auto is fairly consistent with all of his UD products.

Thanks for the heads up. Do you have a link to the auction and maybe a picture of one of yours that you know to be authentic?

Here is a link to one of the real Sp Authentic autographs that ended on ebay for comparison. The one in the PWCC auction doesn't look anything like Luck's signature. Although anyone with a Luck autograph would be able to see the differences. Unfortunately I can't find the link to the past auction for the fake card prior to it getting graded because its past 3 months. There were two fake autographs that were posted by the same seller and probably both of them got graded by Beckett.

Thanks. That's a huge difference. I've never seen a real l luck auto like the one pwcc is selling, but as long as it's slabbed people will buy this junk. I thought heading companies have more than 1 person look at a card before grading. This just shows they have inept people doing the grading and or criminals grading because someone has to be paying someone off to grade all the fake autos and altered cards. These companies are a sham.

Unfortunately the people who fake autographs always have a market to make a profit.

I cannot freaking believe BGS....I mean that is obviously not Luck's signature.

Card is up to $621, and will probably finish much higher.

Original error card sold in the $100 range. Fake autograph added, sold in the $550-650 range. Graded and authenticated by BGS, and will probably sell in the $900 range. I guess no one gets screwed in the fake card market.

Nice photos. Luck's signature is pretty consistent where the "A" starts and "K" ends on all of the real sp autos.

Last year when I asked the ebay seller of the error cards what they were or where he was getting them, he said it was from a seller at a card show. Not sure if an employee at Upper Deck had some pre-production proofs of un-autographed sp authentic, and un-autographed un-serial numbered exquisite and spx cards. But with the prices the fake autographs can fetch, maybe more will start popping up. Something to think about when buying these Luck UD autographs now.
