So this is a new one and I am curious as to what people have to say about this. I couldn't find a thread about it.

Someone I know just received this message through ebay about selling autographs from the Leaf Army set of a current NCAA football player. The email was from a Compliance Director at a major university.

------------------------------------

To Whom It May Concern:

Recently, it has been brought to our attention names (autographs) and likenesses of current (college name) student-athletes are being used for promotional purposes on merchandise you are selling.

According to NCAA bylaws, individuals and commercial entities may not use the name, picture or appearance of an NCAA student-athlete for promotional purposes or to sell merchandise. This includes the use of autographs of current student-athletes to promote your merchandise. Selling this merchandise could render these student-athletes ineligible. The (card name) you are selling through eBay is a violation of NCAA bylaws.

Please stop selling/promoting this merchandise immediately and cease and desist from any future use of current (college name) student-athletes.

Thanks for your cooperation!

I did a little digging and found this article...

Sounds like the NCAA is ok with it so is this just an uninformed Compliance Director?

yeah, you're good. They're just doing their due dilligence to cover themselves. They have no intention of reporting the item
