Yeah, that didn't feel very guru-ish.
Oh well.
Sorry guys. My luck is just like everyone else... Comes and goes. :(
This looks like a rough money making product to me.
Preastige I would give a 5/10
Elite 7/10
Classics 7/10
Rookies & Stars 5/10
and
Threads 4/10
Panini hasn't exactly put out a good football product yet.
Kind of like basketball.
They better beef some of this up quickly or everyone will just wait out Contenders and National Treasures, and the rest of their wax will just go down. ;)

I agree. I'm hoping NT is stellar this year after seeing basketball but I'm a wee bit skeptical as I thought it was mediocre last year.

I would argue about some of those rankings. I guess it all depends if you have an outlet to sell all the inserts you get in the packs. That's something I like about Panini now - getting an insert in just about every pack. If you do a lot of shows with $1 boxes or sell on COMC, I think some of those rankings would be different. I'd say:
Prestige I would give a 5/10 - Yeah - no argument
Elite 7/10 - I'd give it an 8, maybe a 9 if you bought it at the price when it first came out. Lots of cards that can be pulled and pay for the entire box by themselves. More than any other product out so far. Lots of numbered inserts/parallels.
Classics 7/10 - I was going to say you ranked this one too high, but I have had good luck selling all the RC's and Legends /999 lately on COMC, so I can believe a 7
Rookies & Stars 5/10 - I give a 7. There are still a lot of people who put together parallel sets of this product which helps get your money back if you open a lot of it. Also, first product of the season with a (manufactured) patch auto/box.
and
Threads 4/10 - I'm way off on this one. This will probably end up a 7. I would almost say an 8 if Platinum wasn't coming out next week. Relatively cheap box, lots of inserts, getting 1 letter auto/box. Similar to R&S with a Manufactured patch auto/box, but in this set, the player collectors will buy 1 of each letter, whereas in R&S, they just buy the card once.
Again, all this presumes you can get some money back out of your inserts. Just my thoughts.

The reason I rank R&S and Threads so low is because you can't get any of the top tier rookies in the short print base set.
You have to pull an autographed rookie only on them. This makes it hard to make your money back.
I have plenty of outlets to unload my cards, but from a pure profit stand point, there is very little way, without some very good luck to make any money on the products that I ranked low. Even with a $1 box for inserts, that may sell and may sit for years in said box.
As far as the price point goes, I am buying all my wax the day it comes out for less than most online retailers.

i openned a box got all undrafted or late round rookies including the tiny signatured and autoed letterman, and for 100 bucks at my lcs i got maybe 20 dollars worth of cards.... so this product to me is awful its tempting with the potential hits but might as well burn your money

I understand what you're saying about not getting base RCs of the top guys. Good point. Don't misunderstand me. I don't think that you can consistently make a profit on any of the products listed above. Those rankings are in comparison to each other. We both know there are very few products that can consistently turn a profit without a lot of luck (I can only think of two or three and they involve being able to sell the base sets). However, in terms of ranking the percentage of purchase price that you can get back from the case breaks, I would rank them in the following order:
Elite
Classics, Threads, R&S (all the same)
Prestige
Also, if you open a very large volume and find a good way to sell the base (which can be done for this set), I'd put Topps ahead of all of them.
As a side note, I would rank R&S Longevity ahead of R&S Hobby as far as being able to get your money back selling the entire break.

I was unaware they put out R&S Longevity this year. Must have missed that.
I do agree that Base Topps is a better break for your money than any Panini product so far.

Longevity comes out next month. 3 hits/box. 10 inserts/box. Around a $40 price point retail. 3 boxes/case are hot boxes with double the hits. I think I have 3-4 cases coming.
I'm still opening Topps every night. Don't know when I am going to stop. . . . . .

What is the top possible hit for each product?
Prestige-Rookie patch autos
Elite- Throwback/passing the torch dual autos
Classics-cut autos/legends autos
R&S-Rookie patch autos
Threads-Rookie patch autos
That's just a guess without doing research. Seeing as how three products are rookie-focused, I'd really give the nod to Elite and Classics.

Just a quick, very unscientific study. I was curious about what percentage of cards sold on ebay from each set sold for enough to cover the initial cost of a box of that product. Figured each box came out at around $80 (I know some were a little more or less). I removed the sale of boxes/cases from my search. This doesn't truly represent the ability to recover costs with the entire break - just tells about the bigger hits.
Classics 40 sales out of 6000 items listed were enough to cover the cost of a box - 0.67%
Elite 42/4500 - 0.93%
R&S 82/5800 - 1.41%
Prestige 27/4000 - 0.68%
I was surprised to see R&S be double what Classics was at first, but the more I think about it, the more I agree. I know its a small sample size, but I opened two cases of classics and I don't know that I pulled anything that could have sold for more than a box price. The bigger hits were supposed to be the Cuts at about 1/case and a lot of those sold for around $30-40.

I guess it depends on what you get in your boxes, and how much you buy. I busted around a case of Classics, and about 2 cases of Topps. Out of 11 jumbo Topps boxes I opened, I had only 1 box that would get me my box price back. Out of 16 Classics boxes I had about 7-8 boxes that I at least broke even on. The Topps Giveaway cards and sets kinda saves Topps but to me, it is a REAL hit or miss, no dual relics, no jumbo patches etc. I did get a dual rookie premiere, but without that, it would be horrible. And yes, I still keep buyig more lol

Does anyone have any hope for Crown Royale?
Does anyone have any hope for Crown Royale?
Did you see the content for the basketball breaks? I will probably try my luck at 3-4 boxes, but I wouldn't recomend it if you are serious about turning a profit.

I am like you on a much smaller scale. I bust 1 maybe 2 boxes of most products that come out. I didn't do to hot with my 2 boxes of threads. I didn't see much from the basketball breaks. I really do like the cards though. I also enjoy Limited alot.
