Anyone here done it? Any tutorials?
Looking at some really nice custom "chrome-style" cards for some players who only have crappy, non-licensed cards with sticker autos.
If anyone has any other custom card making tips, let's hear them. I've got a custom autograph set of various scientists, historians, and politicians. Few things I love more than quality customs!

I have done it. You need a good razor to pick up one edge then they tend to come off easy. Sage ones suck to take off. You may need DS stick tape to put them back on as the glue doesnt always work after they come off.

I'd say... don't do it, it's turning treasure into trash. Once a sticker is removed it's certificate of authenticity is also voided by the marketplace.
If you're making custom cards, they're fairly clearly of no economic value only aesthetic, I'd just recommend using a high resolution facsimile autograph as an overlay or photoshop the signature onto the card image you're creating.
Everything about custom cards is "fake" (i.e. unlicensed with no collector's value acknowledged by the masses) and it's all about aesthetics, so it shouldn't matter if the autograph is "fake" too.

Not a lot of truth to most of this. Valid opinion? Absolutely.
Over the last 10+ years, a clear majority of the customs that I've made for people that have hit the market have sold for more than the original owner had in it.

plus, there is little to no harm in taking an auto numbered /299 + and trying to transfer the sticker to one of your customs.

I agree and if its for your personal collection then who cares.

neat.
obviously, the dark side of this is if people peel a sticker and try to sell it as a part of a fake, but we're talking about people making customs. And if people do sell these customs on the market, so long as they identify them as such I'm good with it. From experience, Luke customs fetch a pretty decent price.

That's certainly one way of looking at it. Mine wouldn't be for resale. For example, I love football at all levels and leagues around the world. There are several players who were legendary for college and high school teams I like but flopped in the pros. I'd love to pick up some crappy sticker autos and transfer them to customs of them in their college or high school uniform. Am I going to sell it on ebay for SIKK MOJOZ!!! prices? No. Will I keep it in my personal collection and show it to friends who enjoy the same teams? Absolutely. Would I even consider making a few extra and sending them to the player and his family? Absolutely.
Actually, for myself, I receive a greater value in simply creating the custom cards than in any resale value. I've designed and created by own video games, guitars, board games, cards, books, etc. If I see something I like, I have to make my own. It's how I'm wired.
Now, as for any kind of customs reselling, I do pay attention to important individuals I believe are making contributions to humanity and could be written about in future history books. I have sent off customs to be autographed by scientists and politicians, etc. and have had them verified by PSA/DNA. But those are the only customs I plan on passing down to my kids for any possible value.
Let conclude by saying that while I have a different view on making customs, I 100% agree with any frustrations you have toward crappy ebay sellers who try to pawn off crappy "1/1" customs as legitimate. Fork those guys. :)!

Awesome stuff. I get a very "1992" vibe from them.

Also, customs (both sticker auto and TTM auto) allow for collectors like me to get players on the same card we otherwise wouldn't be able to.
For example, one of my bucket-list customs is to someday have a card signed by:
- Colt McCoy and Jordan Shipley on the front, showing their biggest completion.
- Case McCoy and Jaxon Shipley on the back, showing their biggest completion.
As a Longhorns fan, I'd die...
I'd also love to have a card signed by:
- Phil Dawson
- Justin Tucker
- Dusty Mangum
- Hunter Lawrence
Those four kickers won SO many big games for the Longhorns.

if you ever make a Phil Dawson in browns uni, I have a friend that had an unhealthy obsession with him while he was a Brown.

So, Im not very good at it. Just tried my first time recently on these.
Tried a Glue Spray that I put the stickers on, not the best.
Ive used a blade before, but Im not a "perfectionist" so I usually just pick the corners but sometimes you see the edge that you peeled up more than the rest.

The easy way to remove the sticker and keep the glue on the back is to soak in warm water. I usually let my cards soak over night and the stickers peel right up with glue and security still intact. This doesn't work well with chrome cards with stickers.

Like someone said just a sharp razor. I gently grab the corner and it comes off really easy. Do not grab it with your finger for it will leave a print. Just grab thge corner with your nail or tweezers. I went through a couple before I figured out the finger print deal. Also there is "NO HURRY" remember when doing it :)

If it's comes from a Panini card it will be the opposite, from trash to treasure!

I wish I could find the post, I would link it but I once seen someone peel a sticker off a card and then they had the athlete sign the card where the sticker was. It looked really nice. I have thought about doing it with some of my low #ed Emmitt NT sticker autos. I am not a big fan of sticker autos and clearly on card sells better.
