As of last night, the Dolphins were preparing to fire head coach Joe Philbin, per league sources. Dolphins owner Stephen Ross always could change his mind, but the organization was preparing to make a move as soon as today, per sources. Should Ross follow through with his plan, Dolphins tight ends coach Dan Campbell would be the leading candidate to become the interim head coach and replace Philbin.

And DC Kevin Coyle should also be going!

So we can accurately predict that Philbin will be the OC of the Colts next year and Hue Jackson will be the new Dolphins head coach next year, as well?

Hip hip hooray! This team needs a new identity (they currently don't have one).

Tom Brady was done, RyTan was the new kid in the East, and the Dolphins have a SB contending roster. Some here even defended Philbin as a good coach as recent as 4 weeks ago. LOL

I could see their season turning out in a positive way. Let Ryan call the shots out there, he can do it and has the skills to be able to call audible and change things around.

It was an easy call to see that he lost that team.

He's been awful this year. No effort on his part at all from the look of things. It's like he got paid and is now content just to be a warm body.

Caldwell was an awful hire from day 1.

He rode Manning's coat tails as far as he could in Indy and seemed like Detroit just went with the anti-Schwartz hire (in terms of personality and coaching style).

Mike Golic has been defending him to the 9's on Mike and Mike the last two weeks. Saying he's been getting double teamed and someone else needs to be making plays.

Someone should tell JJ Watt that he cant make plays when he's being double teamed.

Suh is overpaid and they moved him out from his natural comfort zone. I agree other guys should be making plays, but when you're getting paid $100 mill, you need to find ways to make plays also. Suh had an easy shot at knocking the snot out of Chris Ivory on one play yesterday and Ivory bounced off of him like he was no big deal.

Suh has gotten people paid due to being doubled team. Cliff Avril, Deandre Levy, Nick Fairley.

I'd like to personally thank Philbin for helping my fantasy team start out 0-4 by giving Lamar Miller about 5 touches per game and 0 touches in the redzone, while also having to bench Tannehill as my QB for sucking so much. So sad to see him go.

It's a shame, Philbin seems like a really good guy and I think bringing Croyle in and not firing him is a big reason he lost the team. The offense has certainly underperformed but Croyle's scheme does not fit his players. The D Line with Suh needs to play in a 1 gap system where they can fire off and be disruptive. This 2 gap system is atrocious.

That being said, it's on Philbin to get the team on the same page and the includes the coordinators. Obviously they were not and he needed to go. I'm just so tired of starting over. We are just constantly shifting coaches and personnel that there is no consistency to build from. He should have been let go when the team collapsed last year.

I remember when the Dolphins were on Hard Knocks, it was Philbin's 1st or 2nd year in Miami I believe. Even then, he seemed like a nice old guy but not someone who could motivate NFL players. And they sure as heck didn't look motivated yesterday...

I'm not a Phins fan nor do I know a lot about Philbin's style/moves, just the impression I got of his personality.

Am I the only one getting sick of hearing all day by all of these sports reporters and analysts saying "it's just a shame this happened to a guy like Joe Philbin - he's just the nicest and most honorable guy and it's just too bad it happened to a guy like him". Stop feeling sorry for Joe! He stunk as a head coach - plain and simple. I could not stand watching this guys press conferences - nothing was ever wrong, or something they couldn't just clean up. He was so delusional that he declared he was not worried about his standing as head coach after the game and talking to the owner - what a bunch of BS. This guy sucked from day one. Following the Packers closely I was never convinced he had a lot to do with the success of Green Bay. He was in the right place at the right time for that gig.

Bottom line - nobody should feel sorry for this guy. He had EVERY chance to improve and change his ways - but he didn't. Sure he was loyal to Kevin Coyle - at some point you can't be loyal to people that suck! We can all relate to this in the "real world". Let's say you are a department manager - you might have a good friend working under you - but if that "friend" slacks off, works 1 hour a day, refuses to do anything to improve or make the team better - you HAVE to let him go! Friend or no friend.

The business of football is a tough business - you must show results quickly, or you are gone - plain and simple. I just feel bad for the Dolphins fans who spent money going to games, buying DirecTV Sunday ticket to watch this pathetic franchise, and for all fans who have had to watch this mess year after year. I hold out hope that some year they actually will get structure in place to produce a winning and sustainable football team. They've swung and missed so much though that I'm not confident we will see a winner anytime soon. Not many organizations more toxic than Miami right now.

He has some moxy and fire - something Philbin obviously lacked. Not everyone is cut out to be an NFL head coach - and sometimes its just the wrong coach for the players. Miami is not a cerebral team - they are a hit you in the mouth team. If Campbell can get them out there playing with fire and attitude (whichi s what he says he is going to do), then maybe the phins can turn it around. The D should lead the way - they have some beasts in the box so let them loose!

I'm tired of fans who constantly complain about coaching and try to over-simplify the dynamic of a football team. Turn the TV off if you don't like hearing that Philbin is a nice guy. And I most certainly disagree that Philbin (or any other HC) should change his ways because the team isn't playing well...the Dolphins knew what kind of coach he was and his style before they hired him. What exactly do you think the players would do differently if Philbin all of the sudden became an "in-your-face-fire-and-brimstone" kinda coach? That's not him and the players most certainly would have tuned him out if he did change his style. And no, not all coaches have to be screamers to be successful: i.e. Tony Dungy with Tampa and Indy. Bottom line: Philbin probably wasn't the right person to coach the Dolphins, but that's not his fault - it's Miami's fault for hiring him thinking his coaching style was what was best for the team.

And you feel sorry for Dolphins fans who spent money on games? Do you also feel sorry for Jaguars fans who spend money on a team which has won 9 games in three seasons? How about Browns fans whose team has had a record above .500 only 2 times since 1999? Or any other fan base of a team that perennially loses?

Hope your practice squad guys treat him nicely and the rest of his teammates don't start to resent him for tossing out the I make more money card all the time.

I was furious when I heard that Tannehill said that. The background is that it happened during Saturday's walkthrough (supposed to be half speed so the offense can get a rhythm). But still, if he wants to be a respected leader he can NEVER say things like that!

I for one am releaved as a Dolphins Fan that they fired Philbin. I have had to watch game after game seeing him standing on the sideline looking either lost. Or just didn't really care to be there.

Also watching NFL network. They show how Suh was lacking in any effort from this game. He is an overpaid, next question baby. Give me half that money. And I will be sacking every QB in front of me :D

I for one was NEVER a fan of the Suh signing and wanted O-line and Lb's. I hope he gets back to his old self. Was so mad when i saw Ivory run into him and bounce off like he was some junk DT. I say if you need to sit him and play Phillip Daniels who is the only player to have a sack on the D so far this season.

He's been awful this year. No effort on his part at all from the look of things. It's like he got paid and is now content just to be a warm body.

I was listening to Bleacher Report Radio this evening and the host was telling a story from yesterday when he was in a coffee shop doing some work preparing for a show. A legally blind woman sat down next to him, asked for some help plugging in her computer, and they started chatting about football at some point. The Jets-Dolphins game had ended on TV and Suh was doing his post-game presser. The woman was listening and said, "That man doesn't care about doing his job." The host asked her how she could tell? She sai that when you are blind, you pick up on other things and your other senses become more acute, and she could hear in his voice that "he doesn't care whether they win or lose". A blind woman could see that he has no heart.

Detroit has got to be doing a little happy dance right about now.

Miami shouldve fired Philben after the Ingognito incident 2 years ago. That was their "out". They waited way too long.

I have to agree with your points. If Philbin lost the locker room, its time for him to go. I think the right choice was made for interim coach. Nervous about who they hire for next season. Do they go with another rookie head coach?

You haven't seen Tanne's contract. Its very favorable to the Fins. If Tanne performs, they get him on the cheap. If he doesn't, they let him go with little repercussions.

I think it's premature to judge Suh and Tennehill (although the practice squad story is very disturbing) as the leadership has not been there for them to succeed. Perhaps Tannehill was treated as a celebrity when he shouldn't have been and Suh was playing in what he knew was a crappy D that wouldn't let him succeed.

IF they can get some fire in their belly (both D-line and O-line) then we will truly see their value. I'm not sure how many of us have worked for a boss who is a poor leader or been on a team with the wrong coach but it is deflating and demoralizing and hard to make a proper conclusion about a player's potential. I'm not saying poor leadership is a reason not to perform but it certainly makes it tougher.
