View Full Version : High End Peyton Manning future
How do you guys think Peyton Manning's high end card values will do as time goes on, assuming he does not win another Super Bowl? Will they stay in the same range they're in now? Increase? Decrease? If you think they'll stay the same in the near future, how long do you think it will take for them to change in value? Will they be higher or lower than Brady's high end stuff?
Again, I'm not talking about his standard base cards, low/mid end autos or things of that nature, but rather his true high end cards, such as rookies, Exquisite, Ultimate Collection, etc... I've had a few discussions about this recently with some buddies who think he's not as safe of an investment as Brady or Rodgers because he's played for 2 teams. Their argument is that if he had played for the Colts his entire career then his card values would be better off in the future. Interested to hear some more thoughts on this...

without another ring, he won't get to brady numbers. they'll still be high, but i think they're about maxed out (without a ring).

Brady's will be more valuable in the long run. I think this is Manning's last year, Brady still looks awesome and who knows how long he'll play. Manning will hold quite a few records when he retires but if Brady plays another 5 years he'll break most of them. He could pretty much have every significant QB record there is including the most super bowl wins outright. He already has every postseason record, yards, touchdowns, wins, 3 SB MVP's. Manning's regular season achievements are awesome but his records might be short lived if Brady really can play that long. 5 more years he could have 75,000 yards passing 550+ touchdowns, 200+ wins and all the rings. They both will remain very valuable over time. That's just my own personal opinion and yes I am biased.

If he doesnt win a SB with Denver then his Denver cards will decrease in value due to a loss of fan interest. As for his Colts stuff.. his RC cards should stay the same but anything else Exquisute/Ultimate/NT etc it will all go down in value aswell since the Football Market is all based on the new shiny hyped product. A sticker auto Manning from a new product outsells the on card stuff from the early 2000s.

He has so much out there that the value will not increase without another SB..
His contenders will rise as the years go on though IMO.

Good points man, that's a good way to look at it. The only thing I will point out that many people seem to forget, is that Peyton Manning also started off last season red hot. Keep in mind, Peyton Manning was 38 last season, and Tom Brady is 38 this season. Peyton came out firing last season as well and it looked like Peyton was going to have his second straight 50 TD season... until the Rams game in Week 11. That's when Peyton took a few hard hits, injured his leg and the rest is history. He just hasn't been the same Peyton Manning since that game.
It will be very interesting to see how long Brady can keep his hot streak going in his age 38 season compared to Manning's age 38 season last year.

Lol what? Brady's value will always be higher because of one simple thing called supply and demand.

This. Bigger market and crazier fan base. Colts fans have already moved on and Bronco fans will quickly forget about him once he retires. Especially if he doesn't bring Denver championships.

I would stockpile every single Peyton Manning Exquisite and Ultimate Collection rookie that you can find. I hear that they're super short print and extremely hard to find. I'd say Peyton's Exquisite rookie is worth even more than his Contenders rookie and Brady's Exquisite! ;)

I agree with this, especially in terms of supply. Peyton is a man of the people. He signs. A lot. Brady doesn't. Peyton's numbers, charisma, and class will always keep his prices in line with similar all time great qb's (after all, he is himself), regardless if he continues to sign until his neck falls apart again.

Yeah, Peyton signs a lot. Which causes his auto values to fall.
Also, just take a quick look at their rookie cards on Beckett.
Peyton Manning 1998 Cards: 517
Tom Brady 2000 Cards: 137
When talking about these 2 guy's card values, bringing stats, records, W/L records into the argument is kind of redundant. There is just simply a bigger supply of Peyton cards out there.

I don't know about that. I'm sure having less RC's certainly has something to do with it but I would definitely think stats, wins, super bowls will also increase the desire/demand for his cards. Just because something is short printed doesn't always mean its going to be worth a boatload of money. I think its the combination of the 2. And yeah crazy fan base will also increases demand.

In an attempt at a real answer to the OP, I'd say truly scarce iconic cards will remain high or appreciate. I'm talking Contenders auto, so authentic, passing the torch with unitas type stuff.
Other cards will have a drop when he retires but priba ly not drastic.
Big drop for Bronco cards. Look at Montana chief cards compared to 49'er cards. Or jordan wizard cards.

lol...the difference is peyton had multiple record breaking seasons with the broncos and even went to a super bowl....those other guys did not. I think his values for both broncos and colts will stay the same....obviously the RC's only being in a colts uni holding more value
