Posted this over on beckett, but thought I'd share it here too...

In order to draw this out a bit more, here's how it all went down...or you can just skip to the scans.

So after learning that the LCS had Dynasty in stock by seeing my buddy post a pic of his Sandoval /5, I decided to head up to check it out.

My plan was to do up to three boxes, though I realized that this might not be realistic for my favourite product...

I got to the shop and there were only three boxes left from the 5 box case. Thanks to my buddy, I knew one of the cards that had been pulled, but didn't know what else had come out of it. I asked the owner to text the guy who bought the other box to ask what he pulled.

As we waited for the reply, I opened a box, slow rolled the patch and saw what I was sure was a Mets patch. I was convinced it was one of the hurlers, deGrom or Syndergaard, so was surprised to see...

Not a bad start at all, and a pretty nice patch too.

It was at this point that the owner got a text back saying the pull was a Matt Harvey redemption. That would have been a nice card, for sure, and I made a comment about two Mets in one case.

I decided to open another one, and as soon as I saw the wicked patch, I know this was a Mets case. I was happy to see the player, and even happier to see the serial number...

I'm a pretty big fan of his, and so I was more than happy with the pull.

Figuring I couldn't leave the last lonely box on the shelf, I pulled the trigger and saw a patch that was clearly for the Reds. Thinking it was Joey Votto or Deion Sanders, I got the feeling that I should have left it on the shelf, so was pretty happy to see...

I pulled a Griffey out of Dynasty last year in a Mariners uniform, so it's pretty cool now to have one for the Reds too.

And that was it, or so I thought. I was happy with the pulls, I had opened my target number of boxes and the case was done...until the owner opened up the second of the two cases he got in.

At this point, one of the high end hockey guys had come into the shop (as I'm in Calgary, hockey is the big game in town and most guys exclusively collect just hockey).

He was looking at the cards and really liked them. I suggested he open one, mostly as a joke, but he said, "I'll open one if you open one more" and I agreed.

He opened his box and pulled a Mauer /10 with a decent patch. Nice card, but one I wouldn't have been overly thrilled about.

I opened mine and slow rolled the patch, and saw that it was another Twins patch. I had a pretty good sense of who it was, and I was pretty happy...

Probably the least impressive patch I'd pulled, but I have high hopes for Buxton next season, so I was happy with the upside of the card.

Now three boxes remained, and the other guy said, "are we going again?" to which I replied, "I will if you will".

He said he'd open another one if I went first, as he wanted to choose between two boxes, not three.

I picked my box and went to slow roll the patch, but there wasn't one. Instead there was a picture, and I knew I'd dropped the Hammer...

It's the fourth auto of his I have, and it is the nicest sig of his I have too (not that it's saying much, as his auto has been shaky for a few years now).

The other guy chose his box and opened it, went to slow roll it and saw it was a redemption. For Jung Ho Kang. I know the guy's got a market, but I was glad I had gone first.

With one lonely box left, I couldn't help myself.

Now earlier on in the afternoon, we were talking about who the worst players in the product were. I had said while there were only a few guys I wouldn't be overly happy to pull, I'd probably be most upset to pull a Hanley Ramirez or a Kyle Seager - I just don't think they belong in a product like this.

So when I opened the last box and saw a Mariners patch, I was so sure I'd pulled a Seager.

What happened next was a great finish to a great break...

Absolutely THE top guy I wanted to pull (along with Trout and Bryant), and I had a 4 color patch in a Mariners uniform. Was absolutely stoked.

I'm pretty sure I'm done with the product now, though I may try to pick up a Kluber and Lindor on the secondary market, as they'll both be cheaper than the box price.

The cards are just gorgeous. I wish they were less expensive than they are, but most of these will be entrenched in my PC, and when the same price buys you a box of Tribute where you might end up with 6 mediocre hits, I'll take the quality over quantity any day.

Thanks for looking, comments more than welcome. Cheers!

Oh yeah, and after seeing a Syndergaard that was similar to my deGrom go for $1200 on ebay, I had to list the deGrom to recoup some of what I spent.

Holy crap man,

First off congrats on the break, some amazing cards and loved the recap. That DeGrom patch is nasty but it doesn't get better than Griffey/Hank/Ichiro!

Thanks guys, nice to hear the story is appreciated. If that deGrom sells high enough, I may well do more...
