Okay so when I was a kid I collected when I was really young. I stopped collecting right after Kobe RC year. So I missed out on all the 90's insert craze. Although I did pull MJ Big Men on Court Z-Peat out of Z-Force and quickly sold it for $500. Anyhow aside from 96-97 I never had any attachment to 90's insert.
I'm starting my personal Kobe collection. My favorite player all time. I am going to do 24 cards (jersey number) but I want 8 (old jersey number) of the cards to be inserts from his early years where he wore #8. I need your help I don't know many cool inserts aside from the PMG's and Rubies I can't afford.
What are some of your favorite Kobe inserts from late 90's....Possibly early 00's? I know one on my list will be Jambalaya. As well as his Chrome RC refractor. I missed out on an essential credentials on eBay today :( - looking for cards valued over $200. Help me out. Pics would be great and if you remember the odds. I just recently looked at a Beckett and they don't lost odds anymore....more importantly pictures :(
Here's my Kobe PC so far.

Thanks for your help.

Here's a nice rare RC card that's still relatively affordable especially compared to his credentials/refractor stuff http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d35/Jpayne7787/Basketball%20FT/2C3C5648-66DF-4DCD-B756-F05C02015606_zpsbkthqnjo.jpg (http://s32.photobucket.com/user/Jpayne7787/media/Basketball%20FT/2C3C5648-66DF-4DCD-B756-F05C02015606_zpsbkthqnjo.jpg.html)

I would say his Pros & Prospects auto jersey (nice card, some of the first of these) and maybe his 99-00 UD game jersey? Not sure if he had a 98-99 one.
Others you might say Chrome RC, Finest gold refractor, Credentials RC, Rave maybe?

Here are a couple of suggestions from the top of my head.
1998-99 Upper Deck Game Jerseys was his first JSY card. There are actually 2 of them in this set. They sell for about $100, but it is historic. If too cheap for you, then...
1999-00 Upper Deck Game Jersey Patch, his first patch numbered only to 25. I think they above $200, IDK, definitely out of my league.
1996-97 Finest Gold Refractor
1996-97 Flair Showcase Legacy Row 0 or 1 or 2 #/150. This is the first factory numbered set if I am not mistaking. Historic.
1998-99 Topps Chrome Apparitions Refractor #/100
1997-98 Ultra Stars Gold
1997-98 SPx Grand Finale #/50
Post 2000? Even the rarest insert wont reach $200 on an auction if it is not a 1/1 or autographed, but there are plenty of autographs. I suggest UD Exquisite, but if you are anti-snob, then there are wood and plexiglass autos that are really unique and low numbered.
Oh... and then there is this. Although it is not pack issued. It was for UD employees only.

I'd start with the Fleer Showcase Legacy collection from 96-97, 97-98, 98-99. My favorite is the 99-00 version limited to 20 copies, but it's tough to find.
I think my website is still up at http://hychang5.webs.com/
I have a section just for Kobe stuff, I collected mainly 90's. Best of luck!

I personally like the 96-97 Chrome Youthquake. It's not a crazy rare card and still pretty affordable. It's part of the Chrome set which isn't around anymore, I just always liked that one.

Umm....wow awesome site.
Thanks for help everyone. I think I'm actually just going to take my time with my collection and grab these when I can at best price I can.
But I've narrowed it down to these 90's inserts:
#1 - Chrome RC refractor #2 - Skybox Ruby #3 - PMG #4 - Essential Credentials #5 - Fleer Playmaker Theatre #6 - Jambalaya #7 - Finest Embossed Gold Die Cut #8 - Still undecided torn between a few I guess I'll decide later.
Thanks for your help everyone educated myself on some Kobe 90's inserts....now I need to research prices.

Whatever you decide, my personal opinion is that you should pick the 24 specific cards you want to target before you go out and start buying. Setting goals and then achieving them is a lot more satisfying than just quickly buying 24 cards because they are pretty nice.

Or you can be like me and opotunistically buy his inserts. I think I have several hundred at this point . Extremely high end and lower ends as well.

Yeah I'm taking my time. I was going to jump the gun and start offering cause some are on eBay but I will take my time and think specifically which cards I want. Thanks for advice

Are you looking to be strict on the values (with your stated $200+ for each), or are you willing to go after cards under that mark as well? There are so many great looking sets he was in with tough or 1 per case odds that fall under $200.
