No, it certainly couldn't and NYY will want to sign him longterm with Miller a possibility to be out the door.
But the deal isn't done yet, so reserving my optimism. Cincinnati is 1-3 in their announced trades; so not flying high just yet.

Um what? This shortens the game to 6 innings or less. Takes a ton of work off the starters.
Tanaka / Severino / Pineda is a fine top 3, especially with they amount of stress on those arms that will be relieved with the shortened games
Would you rather trade for the best closer in the majors or give an number 1 6-7 years at 25-30 million a year and have sabathia all over again? It's a no brainer IMO

That's not accurate.
It is when the case is likely going to set the precedent. Unless the investigation uncovers something no one knows about, he didn't do anything to warrant a suspension under the guidelines of the program. He will receive instruction to an anger management program, but beyond that I don't think anything will happen.
Jose Reyes on the other hand; that one will likely set the bar in terms of what players can expect going forward.

An arrest and/or physical injuries are not required in order for a suspension to be issued under the MLB policy so his post was not accurate.

It’s easy to speak now with the benefit of hindsight, but the reported offer of Braden Shipley plus a pair of other Top 10 prospects from the Diamondbacks in July does appear to be a stronger package than the one received by Cincinnati today.
Naw let's wait then sell at the worst time....same with Frazier hot 1st half could have traded for a nice return naw let's wait till he hits like .200 in the 2nd half then sell in the offseason. Walt and Co. need to be canned.

I get what you're saying because of the allegations surrounding him recently, but he's been one of the rare closers who has been at the top year in and year out. Any team who is a contender would be very happy to have him and I'd frankly have asked for bigger names in return if I were the Reds.

It's the exact opposite. If Chapman were to be suspended (think big, say 80 games); then you not only get him for the second half of this season, but you also get him for all of 2017, because he's not a free agent. A fresh reliever for the stretch run, and a year of control you probably didn't expect If Chapman is suspended small, or not at all, and you don't want him beyond this season; then you can give him a qualifying offer next year, and take the 1st round pick; which you COULD argue is similar to the package the Reds just received from the Yankees.
Point blank, Cincinnati didn't want to have to pay Chapman $13M for a season that they know will be one of their worst ever. To see what they hauled in for Frazier makes you realize that the Reds are a perfect trading partner, and the Yankees took advantage.

That's why you're not a GM. And you're awfully (along with many others) quick to toss around the abuse card when even the woman's brother said nothing happened. The disturbing part of the story is the anger; it doesn't appear he did anything to anybody, except himself (this time).

The Reds saved 13 million dollars. Sure, it would have been nice to get a very good prospect. They didnt for 2 reasons. First, they waited way too long. Second, Chapman cut his own value. The good news is the Reds can load up on prospects in the draft if they choose wisely. Some of the draft building is luck. I dont know, but I cant imagine another Harper, Trout, Correa, Bryant, Buxton, or even Schwarber will be out soon.

AL East will be fun to watch. As good as Miller, Betances and Chapman is. Boston's Smith, Koji, Tazawa and Kimbrel might be better.
Well those guys have come out about 1 per year so......
The problem is the Reds haven't drafted well in recent years either.

Chapman hasn't done anything wrong in the past to my knowledge besides a speeding ticket. To say he doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt is dumb. Maybe u have trust issues and that's just how u are. In that case, I feel sry for you. But chapman, and ppl in general deserve the benefit of the doubt. If we took every angry, emotional person (not just female) at their word then we'd all be screwed in the public eye. NeedChapmans is right that the anger with shooting the gun is more of a worry. Ppl lie every day about others due to anger, jealousy, etc. believing everything we hear is stupid and irresponsible.

I was willing to let the legal system run its course and determine whether or not the allegations are true. But as an Orioles fan, he could have ridden in on a white horse to save his girlfriend from a pack of rabid weasels and becoming a Yankee would still mean he's dead to me.
My Chapman collection is for sale. I'll get to posting it soon, but feel free to PM with anything you're interested in. It's nothing like NeedChapmans' collection, but I have some good stuff.

AL East will be fun to watch. As good as Miller, Betances and Chapman is. Boston's Smith, Koji, Tazawa and Kimbrel might be better. Baltimore don't have a cake walk bullpen either but they will need to go out and get some offense. Only Boston and Toronto have an offense basically in the AL East right now.

What a crazy steal for the Yankees! No matter what happens going forward, they won this deal hands down. Even if the absolute worst case scenario happens and Chapman is suspended half the season AND ends up tanking in NY, it'll be nothing more than a small disappointment because the Yankees only gave up 4 minor leaguers for him. AND to top it off, none of those 4 minor leaguers were from their big 5! (Bird, Judge, Severino, Mateo, Sanchez)
VERY low risk move for the Yankees IMO. Props to Cashman for pulling this one off!

Wow as a Yankees fan I am so happy! I think we SHOULD keep all 3 big relievers. Our starters aren't so strong and are very injury prone. To only need a starter to pitch 6 innings really shortens the game. I actually like Jagielo but could care less about the other 3, even Davis. I read a ton of articles on the domestic issue. Seems like there definitely was some drama but a very suspect case against Chapman. Not taking sides on that so the PC police don't come after me but as a baseball move... low risk high reward for the NYY considering what they let go.

The amount of empty seats in the stands is going to be ridiculous. My empty seat is going to be one of them. I'm not paying to watch bad baseball with a team of votto, Phillips, and mostly minor league players. This sucks. Castellini needs to fire the entire management staff bc of these awful trade returns.
As a Reds STH. I am actually excited about the empty seats! I hate large crowds during games.

I would have loved to see Chapman in a Red Sox uni, but knowing them, they might try to force him back into the rotation a la Daniel Bard. Should be a fun season. Hopefully the Yanks and Sox are both relevant again. Papi's farewell tour. And the Sox finally have an ace. Let's get 2016 started!

Gun ownership =/ randomly shooting off said gun in anger. Also, innocent until proven guilty is a legal device, not a device of public opinion. I (as well as others here I would assume) absolutely think that he should be afforded all the rights under the law, but that doesn't mean he should be afforded public opinion.
I tend to think that someone that shows such a lack of self control and such violent anger is more than likely someone that would be abusive. I also think that I wouldn't want someone like that representing me in any official capacity.

I don't disagree that the lack of self control in that situation is alarming; I believe it to be the most problematic of everything that was reported to have happened. However, I don't think that makes someone "more likely someone that would be abusive". Chapman has an anger issue, but he didn't hit anyone. He wanted to drive away, wasn't allowed (rightfully so) and found a way to take his anger out without hurting anyone. Yes, there are certainly better ways to do that; but score him 1 point on the 100 point scale for not doing something he could regret for the rest of his life.
With his girlfriend refusing to talk to MLB, Chapman cooperating and no evidence of anything other than the police report, it's hard for public opinion to be overtly negative. After the investigation concludes and Chapman is saving games for the Yankees, honestly, who will remember this incident (if this is all there was to it)?

Yanks easily have best swing and miss (from last year) combo but let's see how 1 dimensional Chapman does in the AL. Boston's could be better we don't know until it plays out.
