Two champs, one card.

Sources say Conor McGregor, Holly Holm will both fight in UFC 197: Conor McGregor-Rafael dos Anjos, Holly Holm-Miesha Tate to headline UFC 197 (http://es.pn/1OUTnVz)

Mcgregor shouldn't be fighting for 155 at least already. There are challengers for the title as there are for McGregor's title.

Dana/et al are about the money.

McGregor/RDA is much bigger fight money wise than Edgar or anyone else at that weight class and the same goes for RDA.

If it goes down and McGregor wins

yea it seems like a win-win to me...if conor wins then its just bananas for his next fight no matter who it is..if he loses...oh well...this will be huge PPV and he loses but still is the 145 champ...

i dont really think he should be allowed to do it...i dont feel strongly against it...but i just dont like the idea of both divisions be held up by one champ...he is pretty active but he cant fight 5 times a year ...

say he wins this in March...so now holds 145/155 belts

edgar or aldo still waiting...do you make them fight again in the mean time just to keep them active??

Conor comes out rather un-injured but still takes a lil bit...fights Edgar in july/aug....

Aldo now has to fight someone else in mean time which he should anyways...ok...now to the 155 guys...say RDA fight is close...well everyone will want the rematch cuz that is what UFC does over and over nowadays...

but conor has to fight back at 145 so the rematch has to wait....

Conor beats or loses to edgar...either way....out til december/january year end event where he will rematch RDA.....so over the next year everyone not named edgar/rda will have made it no closer to a title shot cuz there just wont be very much movement cuz you just cant have one guy be in charge of both divisions....

and that is a relatively active calendar year for Conor...if he actually gets hurt or breaks a foot or something where he has to sit for 6months...then both divisions just sit and nothing happens....

so in the near future...great idea...big huge Money....but in the long term i think it would really suck for fans....155 has a ton of fights ppl would want to see with Conor...but if he has 145 strap as well then it will just really clog up 155 which is probably the best/deepest division in the sport...

It's interesting reading these MMA thread over here. I don't know why I've never really posted in any of them.

I guess being a mod on Sherdog and dealing with that insanity over there makes me tune it out elsewhere.

With RDA out Dana went to the tumbler and pulled Diaz name out of it to fight Connor. a guy 2-3 in his last 5 fights. Really should of been 1-4 cause he lost to Johnson. This fight is more about hype than anything.

It's really the only fight that makes sense. Only other option was cerronee and he fought a couple days ago. They have a little history and I think it will be a interesting fight.

Heard Aldo turned it down for some reason. Probably not enough time.

Yeah, if wouldn't be smart of Aldo to take it. Especially if they were trying to do it outside his normal weight class. I think the McGregor Diaz will be alot more interesting.

we definitely didnt watch the same Johnson fight...lol..and now this is just like when Anderson went up for a couple 205lb fights...just a showcase fight now...which is probably what it should have been from the start...but then i saw he is jumping 2 classes since this is gonna be at WW170...so maybe this is so that at ufc200 they still put him in there vs R.Lawler for the WW belt...who knows...

Diaz is just as big/popular as Forest was back in day when Anderson went up....bigger than J.Irvin who he did it against 1st...but Conor is also way bigger than Silva ever was...

to me Nate or Cerrone were the only options...made NO sense for edgar to fight him at 155 for no belt...or Aldo for same reason...but Aldo for revenge made sense and Aldo also said he would fight conor "anywhere/anytime" then was offered the fight and said no thanks...so thats not a great look...lol

Would be excited if it was on TV, Absolute dumb mistake by UFC and Dana.

Yeah, I have no clue what he is talking about.

Conor:

5'9"
145-155lbs (he fights at 145 only until this fight)
74" reach

Silva:

6"2"
185-205lbs
77.5 reach

Even with Connor moving up to 170, he is not anywhere close to being "way bigger then Silva ever was". Silva moved from 185 up to 205 to face Forrest. McGregor is never going to be able to move past 170 and I personally think him making a double jump in classes is stupid. He shouldn't move past 155 IMO, but that might just be me. I am excited for the McGregor/Diaz fight though. Two of the best trash talkers in the game.

wow guys...my post was talking about popularity....Diaz isnt bigger than Forest either guys....shocking i know!!!! but he is as popular....and Conor is "way bigger" than Silva...meaning Anderson might be the greatest ever...but he was not a PPV seller....he was never the biggest draw...Conor is "way bigger" of a draw....

its not a dumb mistake if you want to keep building FightPass up...you have to put big exciting fights on there if you want to honestly build it up...and that is what they are doing....why stick it on FS1 at 2pm on a Saturday...that wont crush ratings anyways....so put it on FP and get more eyes to subscribe to that....

i bet within a year you will see one of the somewhat popular champs will defend on FP....not Jones or Conor...but like a Rockhold title fight....or a vacated 145lb title fight between like Edgar/Aldo after Conor leaves 145....

They will never hit the 2 million mark that they went. Even if you put a title fight on FP. People will pay for a month than cancel.

yea but what if they consistently put #1 contender fights and title fights on FP?? i dont subscribe now...but there have been a few fights in the last 6 months that i was upset i couldnt watch...and i think this was just the beginning...i think maybe there end game is to have FP as the 2nd thing after PPV and not FOX/FS1...so maybe once that deal ends they dont re-up with FOX....they have a few more years of that deal i think...so slowly but surely i see FP getting more and more exciting/big/important fights and fans will almost be forced to subscribe and if not then they will just be missing out on a ton of fights...but this is just my guess...neither of us really has any clue what UFC truly wants from FP...but im not saying just put a title fight on FP...im saying you will see a lot of big name fighters go that route...and it will be much more frequently than it is now...and they will mix in W-Fly, FlyW, non-conor FW, MW, HW even...i think all those titles fights could be shown on FP...the only ones i dont see as of now is a conor fight, a jones fight and a rousey fight....pretty much any other weight i wouldnt be surprised to see on FP over the next year-2yrs
