I got a hobby box of the Empire Strikes Back Illustrated packs, and pulled what I **think** is a 1/1 artist sketch. It is a folded card which on the outside says:

"Congratulations! The Force is with you in this Star Wars Illustrated Sketch Card - a one-of-a-kind piece of original art based on the Star Wars Saga"

It has the artist's autograph on the outside. Inside, it depicts a Snowtrooper firing a blaster canon. It even looks like it has real paint!

So, 1) is this a 1/1? and 2) How do I protect this card? Should it be unfolded? What type of case to use? I had a regular artist auto in the previous pack, which I thought was cool, but I think this maybe cooler...

Congrats on the hit.

Technically all sketch cards are 1/1 as they are sketched. Now, the same image or scene may have been copied/used again, but it is still drawn again. Don't think ESB Illustrated Artists were forced to use the same image over and over like The Force Awakens.

Do you want to store or display it? I've stored some of the panaroma ones in a 130pt penny sleeve in a 130pt top loader.

Thanks! So I'd love to be able to see both sides - since the sketch is on one side and the autograph is on the other. Either way, I am afraid to even touch it or unfold it!

There are companies like ultra pro that make a magnet one touch case that can hold booklet style cards. Check it out. That way it'll be protected well and you'll be able to view it whenever you want.

Congrats on the hit!

*L* I would be THAT worried about touching it. After all, the artists had it in their hands drawing it in the first place. :)

I was strictly talking about storing it folded in a top loader. If you want to display it, I'd look around for a top loader that could handle it. (I don't know of any off the top of my head.. I know people buy custom ones). Definitely don't fold it over so you can see both sides either keep it folded up the way it came or lay it flat.

Who's the artist? I use the 4"x5" sized toploaders to hold my booklets in. was this the same kind of card?

This is what I store my 4"x5" cards in until I sell em.
This is not my sale just a sample of what the toploaders look like for this size.

Thanks everyone! The artist is R. Jimenez. Duh...should have thought about a 4x5 :), but I am intrigued by the book style magnetic case too. I will check them out. Thanks! I can tell the artist handled it because there were some smudges on the back of the card that look like someone with ink or paint on their hands might have made. Very cool actually!

So it looks like the toploader is the way to go - the booklet magnetic ones I've found are more like for the triple threads and such where the cards are landscape. This is more like two portrait oriented cards folded over.

Just curious: what do you use to display cards?

You can buy both landscape and portrait style booklet toploaders, but they are 180pt so might be kind of think for this type of folded sketch card. I use 3.5x5 toploaders for 2 card portrait puzzles and they work great.

If your local shop stocks either, they will be very cheap storage display solutions.

Do you usually put them in some kind of large penny sleeve first?

Most of my cards are penny sleeved/top loaded or in a magnetic one touch. I don't display many cards at one time.

Yeah. I use 5x7 sleeves and cut them, but you can buy 3.5x5. This will be tough to findicate without buying a pack, but they are cheap
