View Full Version : Prop bets are for losers.

Vegas always wins.
Just drive the strip one day and you will see lights erected on the backs and lost paychecks of losers.
Prop bets are designed to recover any straight bet losses. Sure, there are some who can brag of a once-in-a-lifetime win, but even bookies are eating filet mignon at the end of the day.
If you gamble for fun then enjoy the laugh you get after the high of pitching your money.
If you gamble for for the dream of hitting then do it until your dignity is swallowed by obsession.
If you gamble fully expecting to lose... well the only reward you will achieve is "Another Loser Award"
The sole purpose of this thread is to possibly fortify the notion that a gambler only fortifies the pocket of wolves.
Please think about it.
If you lost money to Super Bowl bets, it may be time to reevaluate your direction. If you are upside down and are hoping to 'recover' your losses then it may be time to consider professional help.
I am not kidding. Gambling destroys lives, family, and relationships.
The only way to not be a loser: Don't gamble. bet, or hedge wagers.
A gambling free life is one free of disguise, predators, or chains.

When I was in Vegas once, I lost $100 quickly on a Roulette table.
Shortly after that consignment I spent $105 on a chocolate malt and hooker and Vegas tasted alot better.

My ladyfriend and I are going to see the movie together. Only way we would do it is at an AMC theater that was not general admission (dine-in with the big seats).
I say over $100 million because it is Valentine's day weekend, they have no real competition movie-wise, the movie might actually surpass the hype and it's Ryan Reynolds.

Nothing you said was out of line, and I think most people would even agree with the majority of this.
The problem is, people don't like it when they are told what they can and cannot do when it comes to their money. It comes off as really preachy.
There are plenty of people who can gamble responsibly. Then there are those who can't and take it too far. I am sorry for anyone who has someone they know whose life has been destroyed by a gambling addiction.

I gambled on a fart and crapped out no way I'm doubling down
Feb 3rd, we were in vegas for the Bears Super Bowl run. Damn you Rex Grossman. Hester was on fire all season. My buddy placed the following bets.
Hester to score the 1st points of the game 100-1. Bet $20
Hester to win MVP 1000-1. Bet $20.00.
And the Bears to win for $50. and $10 on some other prop. Like the OP I thought it was sucker bets.
I put my hundo on the Bears to win. I lose $100.
His money? He walked away with $1900. I'm the sucker now. If he had bet that Hester would return the opening kickoff that was something crazy like 2000-1 since it was never done before.
Years later I was in vegas and hit for $10,365 on a slot machine at Monte Carlo. I wanted a prop bet to go big on. I thought about taking the $10K and going for the biggest long shot i could find. If the Giants scored the 1st points of the game over the pats it was like 2-1. If they did so via Safety it was like 2000-1. I was a pussy and didnt place my bet. I didnt win my millions

Op does realize he posted on a forum of gamblers right. Every time you open a pack of cards its like playing a $5 scratch off. Opening a box? Thats like playing roulette and putting your money straight on 0. A Case? Betting on the long shot horse at the track.
Thanks for the advice but it was never going to be received here lol.

I took Von Miller to win MVP(was in Vegas), was awesome to hit that. Also took Broncos ML and Under as well as a few others that hit. A few of my props hit but most were just for fun. Wish I bet more on Von but 5 to win 175 was still pretty solid.

I bet $80 on a ton of $5 props during the superbowl, and came out $20 up. Makes the game much more fun to watch and as long as people can wager what they are willing to lose, I don't see a problem with doing it.

Actually not true at all. As one poster already stated he is going with his gf. I, myself, am going with my wife, after she got hooked on Iron Man and his witty-ness she can't get enough of these movies now. She's the one that actually recommended seeing Deadpool.
It may not bank over a hundred mill, but it will be close. Cold weather is even more of a reason to camp out in a movie theater and the only people celebrating Valentine's Day are high school kids for the most part.

This is why I love BO. The OP's well intentioned, though woefully misguided post is being completely ignored. Thread hijack complete with prop bets on Deadpools weekend gross.
Deadpool opens up against Zoolander 2 and How to be Single so it will face some stiff competition. How to Be Single should fare well since a ton of poor young men will be forced to take their significant other to see it. Zoolander 2 will pull in around 40-45 million is my guess and will finish 2nd. Deadpool should gross around $65-70 million. Book it now.

The commercials on national television make it look so cheesy. But if you watch the NSFW on Youtube it actually looks like some fun. My favorite part is when he chops a dudes head off and kicks it like a soccer ball. It's definitely not your normal PG-13 comic movie.

During the good ole days of online poker back in the early and mid 2000s I turned a $10 freeplay from an online poker site into roughly $120,000 in less than 3 years Green Lantern.
Sure I once lost a bet on WSEX of $1400 trying to clear a bonus with live in game betting on an NFL over under. Sure it was $1400 to win like $12 being 8 minutes into the 2nd quarter needing 5 points more to hit the in game over bet to win my $12. Score was already tied 17-17 with zero defense so far in the game. Sure each team missed an easy field goal from that point on and each team turned the ball over at least once in the red zone in the 2nd half. Yup the game ended on a field goal for the win and for the loss on my over bet of $1400 to win $12. Got greedy throttling through a $300 bonus.
#@#@#@#@ happens and do not gamble outside of your comfort zone and what you can afford to lose. I made a ton of money during this time as mentioned above from NL holdem, bonus whoring and a ton of sports betting, prop betting, etc. This was my worse bad beat during that run. My best beat was betting the over/unders on Movie gross opening weekends. I had bets on over/unders at different sports betting sites on one of the Saw (horror movie) sequels. The lines were being moved up and down on the amount of millions the move would do opening weekend in the US at different times on these sites based on each sites individual bets coming in. When it was all said and done I had roughly $5800 bet across the board on both overs and unders on like 7 or so different sites. Worst case I was tying this money up for about 5 days and was gonna walk away with like $400 in profits. Depending on what it exactly ended at the winnings went up from there. I had a $250,000 sweet spot that if the movie ended there I would win ALL bets for roughly $5800 in winnings. Preliminary gross ticket sales came in and I looked like I was gonna be up around $1500. When the final $$$ amount was posted online for all sportsbooks to pay out the movie hit that sweet spot and I made $5800 off of a damn Saw sequel.
Be smart, look for ways to angle shoot and you will come out ahead. Damn I miss those days, just found my old Neteller debt card out of the Bahamas. Nothing like having a numbered bank account in the Bahamas with no name or SS# attached to it in which you could move money across sites in minutes or roll up to an ATM and take out as much cash as you desired. No daily limits just had to deal with individual transaction limits on the ATM.. :)
The IRS got their share though because the first few times I withdrew from Neteller I did transfers into my personal checking account creating a clear paper trail and wasn't gonna screw with a possible audit later on.

I am regretfully sorry if this thread came across as preachy or soapbox sounding. Not the intention at all.
Over the years I have witnessed a few sad stories of a friend and co-worker lose their families and livelihood to gambling addiction. What sparked this thread was yet another story I read recently about someone who committed suicide after trying to recover gambling losses during the Super Bowl.
If you don't have a gambling problem then this post was not necessarily meant for you.
My intentions were to hopefully reach someone who may be in a very narrow spot or a dark place. I have posted similar content on other forums but did not receive the mocking attitude elsewhere like it did here.
Gambling can be fun but there are many who struggle with it and you may even be personally effected by it someday. It's hard to watch.
Cheers.

This is an excerpt from a thread about gambling when it comes to opening packs/boxes. Such was a tongue-in-cheek response to the gambling nature of purchasing card products.
