NBA still robbing the superior dunker I see. Biggest, disgraceful robbery since Pee Brown got votes over Shawn Kemp. LOL. Absolutely disgusting, those judges should be hanged for crimes against humanity.
The Orlando Magic guy obliterated the competition, no one else in that entire stadium could even exist in his realm. What a JOKE.

I agree, Aaron Gordon got robbed. Lavine was great. Don't get me wrong, but Aaron Gordon took it to another level.
However, I can't agree with you that he is the best dunker to ever exist since Kemp. Vince Carter holds that place in my opinion.

Two things. The way it is set up, the max score is 50. All the dunks that Lavine and Gordon threw down were fifty dunks with the exception of Gordon's last, which IMO was correct. Gordon also IMO had the dunk of the night with the "Lazy Boy" or whatever chair name you prefer.
Secondly, two words, Vince Carter. He may be the best of all time. Although it's be hard to overtake Michael or Nique. Would love to see those three have a contest amongst themselves. 2000 VC vs '86 Jordan and Nique. I think that's the right year on the older guys.

I think this is the first year dunk contest that judges push button for the score instead of holding a score card.
Normally, judges will give 49 for the first dunker regardless how good it is. One judge always look around and make sure he is the only '9' in the panel. With this digit score, I guess you can't tell other judges' score.
Also, before this year, the '49" kind of hints if the second dunker is better than previous dunker. But this year, the score is based on the question "does this dunk score a 10?"
Did Gordon get robbed? Maybe.
It is like someone makes a 94ft-turnaround-fadeaway-double-pump-between-the-leg 3 pointer to give your team a 3 point lead. Then the other team makes a wideopen corner 3s to tie the game. Too bad, the rule does not allow 11 score or 4 pointer.

God Bless.

Vince did do much better and was much more creative than Kemp in the dunk contests, I can agree with that...and yes, Kemp is definitely the greatest in-game dunker of all time.

There was definitely robbery at work. If I were the parent of the winner I would disown him for not giving the trophy, or whatever it is they win to TRUE winner, the true king, Orlando Magic guy.
...well, first I'd coerce a few million out of him, then disown him. HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAA

Completely disagree. Not taking anything away from Aaron Gordons dunks, as the one of him going under his legs is definitely one of the most impressive dunks I have ever seen. However, you can't take away from Lavine. Gordon 2 handed dunks are not near as difficult as Lavine taking off from the free throw line and going in between your legs, or doing a 1 handed windmill from the line. Maybe it is because Lavine makes it look so effortless and easy, but it still shouldn't take away from the greatness of these dunks.
Aaron Gordon is NOT the best dunker to exist, nor is MJ, or Shawn Kemp. It is Zach Lavine.
Jordan took off from the free throw line and cocked the ball back by his ear, not do a windmill or even a between the legs. Confidently, I will say that is something none of these 3 guys I listed could ever fathom doing.
Thankfully though, we have guys who actually are aware the degree of difficulty of the dunks to judge them and not you... :)! Props and jumping over things are nice and all, but at the end of the day, the best dunker won and defended his title, no argument about that. Now please stop trying to deface greatness

The toilet seat because he was dropping bombs
The last Lavine dunk was not from the free throw line. All I know is that for years to come the toilet dunk will be replayed in the history of the NBA and the between the legs one foot from the free throw line will be an after thought

You are obviously still in denial of the TRUE champion here. Lavine did not miss one dunk all night. Did not get one point deducted off his perfect score of 50 each time.
Gordon however, ehhh, can't say the same. Be happy you were able to witness the best dunk off as far as dunks go (not players) in the last 30 years.
What I do not mind at all are rising Zach Lavine prices :)! ;)

I 110% agree with you on the Toilet seat dunk. Like I previously mentioned above, one of the greatest dunks I have ever witnessed. The spinning hover board was just the same as Zach catching it off the bounce and controlling it.....
This is where degree of difficulty in actually dunking the ball comes into play. Being 6'5 and able to dunk it with ease, I can tell you I would much rather do the "2k Ferguson" dunk from a rotating hoverboard just spinning around but the ball staying at the same height, rather than throwing it up and catching it off the bounce.

Still have to time the ball and cup it with one hand on the bounce :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: , the only thing it is moving vertically on the bounce, making it much harder to time than it moving horizontally. All of this allowing for Lavine's dunk to look much much better! :)! Plus Gordon is 6'9 and Zach is 6'5, without saying more, Lavine definitely was more impressive.

A few things supporting the win:
a) Lavine used NO props. He did dunks in purest form
b) Lavine managed to keep up with Gordon considering ''a''; He never let go and did dunks no one saw and that would have scored automatic 10s in any recent competitions
Yes, I really would've liked to see Gordon win, yet props to Lavine for never letting go.

Another dunk contest robbery thread....yikes.
Let me summarize for everyone, since I have read every one of these threads:
Lavine is the 2016 dunk contest champion.
Gordon is the runner-up.
Some feel Aaron Gordon won.
Some feel Zach Lavine won.
Those two groups do not agree.
Some feel Shaq robbed AG. (AG's brother Drew)
Some feel this was the greatest dunk contest ever.
Some say it was not the greatest dunk contest ever. (MJ vs Nique)
Some say it will revitalize the dunk contest for years to come.
Most feel it was cool that Lavine dedicated his win to Flip Saunders.
Everyone knows their own opinion will never convince an opposing opinion to change their said opinion to agree with the first opinion.
The End.
Watch the dunk contest if you haven't seen it yet. It was amazingly awesome, and very very entertaining. At least we can all agree on that!

Nothing wrong with props. What AG did actually enhanced the dunk and made it relevant for today without going overboard with a lame gimmick. He should get points for creativity.
Fault was the judging IMO.. after AG's hooverboard 50 dunk.. I think Lavine's should have been a 49. But the judges can only give 9's and 10's and they don't really know who's giving what score until it's up. If it was like previous years the public would have twitter voted.
I don't care either way though! The tie led to foure more awesome dunks that we would have never seen. Both put on a great show. AG made himself more known and will get enough attention from it to cash in.
*** On a side note there was a sick dunk from a random dude at halftime of the All Star Game. Leaped over and did a no look throw down going away from the basket. Was pretty impressive. I suggest looking it up if you haven't seen it!

I mean, shouldn't it be expected though? Especially if you're one of the board members that really doesn't dive into league talk threads that often. OP himself has called for a league talk subforum for a while now, as have I and many others.
Hey Mods, you understand that this is needed, right?
I respectfully disagree. There isn't enough new content in the bball section to warrant breaking it up, and I don't want to have to check multiple sub forums to see what people are discussing.

There's an All Star thread already that has about six pages dedicated to this specific topic, in addition to all the other All Star related stuff. This entire thread is just a rehash of everything that's already been said... days ago (you know, when the dunk contest actually took place).

Yes, I get that, but.... if you rarely read through league threads, especially ones that are multiple pages long, you wouldn't know. However, it would be MUCH less of an issue if there were separate forums.
My point is that this will always happen.

Gordon's dunk was so high, that he would have won the Bronze at the last olympics lol

Lavine won cuz he made many 50 dunks, Gordon lost cuz the max score is just 50.

I'm ok with who won because it wasn't about who had the best dunk....
Air Gordon had the best dunk, in fact had the best few dunks....
But LeVine out answered him...
Gordon did an insane dunk then LeVine came back each time with an answer...Even if the answer wasn't as good as Gordon's dunk the crowd reacted to it in favour...
You can't do anything about the fact that LeVine went second, had he gone first Air Gordon would have won...
How anyone could be upset or even amazed at how LeVine won is just crazy, LeVine's dunks were insane and will stand as some of the best of all time....Just like Air Gordon's dunks will...

Spectacular dunk but in the photo 7'6 would be roughly the TIPS of the poles, and he was nowhere near clearing those with his entire body.

Lavine's (NOT Levine) dunk following AG's 360 hoverboard dunk should've gotten a 45-47 max. It was the same dunk without the mascot and mailman throwback.

Lavine fault his dunks were original and less props? Also this could of been addressed in the NBA All Star topic thread.

Gordon got robbed. Anyone else that thinks otherwise is a homer or has invested in Lavine cardboard

Was spelled/spelt (lol) that way on perpose.....I mean on purpose...:)!
I found it funny how people started spelling his name in this thread...

Don't you think that dunk was a perfect answer for Gordon's dunk?
I mean doing the same dunk and letting the crowd see he could do it straight after Gordon is what was so good about all of LEVine's dunks...

I don't support either players' team, I'm not invested in either of them, nor do I really care about either them or their respective teams. With that in mind, I agree with Hegotgame above in saying that I can't understand how anyone is so suprised that Lavine won. Let alone saying that Gordon was clearly "robbed". It seems ridiculous to me.

Or flip flop and say that about yourself on Aaron Gordon...
I never sell any of my Lavine stuff, and don't plan on it, so it is nothing to me.
My collection or not, Zach Lavine clearly deserved it, and got it.
Like i mentioned earlier, thank god we don't have all of these people judging the dunks, instead we have credible experienced NBA players/dunkers.
Case closed.
I agree with you mostly except the last part...
Jordan Kilganon was in the stadium and he would make both these guys look like amateurs and given they have like a foot reach on him it makes their dunks look even weaker...like a 6' guy doing nice dunks on a 9' net....yawn...
Gordon did very well...especially not missing the tough dunks.

wow what a thread, we got Zach Levine's mom, Joan, in here defending her little boy, whose only line of defense is to copy / paste the same "glad there are guyz who know wut a dunk iz lol" rhetoric
we have Wolves fans howling in despair because I have exposed their hometown hero as a farce and largely inferior to Orlando Magic guy.
we have guys that are up in arms because there's an All Star thread already, but little do they know I virtually never participate in league talk and have probably never started a thread about league talk until now. This has already been mentioned by another member who knows my posting well. The best part is those lamenting my thread and posting in it only bumps it up further, HAHAHAHHAHAHA
Orlando Magic guy was / is the real winner and superior dunker, he could do anything / everything the rigged winner could do, but the rigged winner could not do anything / everything Orlando Magic guy did, that is irrefutable.
All weak attempts at rebuking my statement

Lavine definitely had a better dunk in the last round, but he shouldn't even have made it that far. Gordon's third and fourth dunks absolutely outshined his.

This. Again.

It ia an arbitrary scoring system. Perhaps the judges felt different, as is their to do so.

Gordon's dunk was so high, that he would have won the Bronze at the last olympics lol
I absolutely loved that dunk and think it was one of the best ever in a dunk contest, but it is of course false to say he would have won the Bronze in the Olympics. There is a lot more to high jumping than just jumping high (timing, angle, etc.). I tried to become decathlete my senior year of college and I was HORRIBLE at the high jump.
This. Again.
I enjoyed your summary.
My favorite part of this thread is OP referring to Gordon over and over as the Orlando Magic guy. Love it.

Weak post, yet again, obviously you are swayed with bias.
Not on a high horse to begin with.
Kanye West? What?
LOL @ how emotionally afflicted you are by the truth.
P.S. "my advice is for you to go eat some sand" ........what? lol, thanks for the advice, mrs. lavine / levine
