i hope the pirates call up the entire Altoona Curve team...... they're only AA, but they can't do any worse than what the chumps in Pittsburgh are doing.

For the Pirates:
Andrew McCutchen OF, Neil Walker 3B/C, Brian Bixler SS, and Steve Pearce 1B
McCutcheon and Walker are still a year or so away from being ready, Bixler should be the opening day SS next year after the Bucs trade Jack Wilson in the offseason. Pearce has been tearing up the minors this year but is stuck behind LaRoche at 1B. They're experimenting with him in the outfield but there'll be no room there once McCutchen moves up unless they trade Nady or Bay.

You guys are so negative about your team you are getting what you deserve. You have the makings of a great rotation, some good hitting prospects coming up, and with an intelligent pickup or two, and you will be right in the race next year.
BTW, getting Matt Morris to anchor that staff is perfect because guys like Snell, Gorzelany, Duke and Maholm can learn from him no matter what style pitcher they are, and keep in mind Morris went through the Daryl Kile year and the Barry Bonds circus, so he knows how to deal with distractions.
Now I know Pittsburgh isn't New York, so its not like championships are your birthright (they are ours as the greatest city on the planet), but your team will make a run at the division in 2008 or 2009... not that Pirates fans deserve it with their behavior this year.

dude, watch a sorry excuse for a team for 15 years and still be optimistic. it's not possible. i was 7 when they last were good. i know a lot of people who never even remember them being good. stiegy said on the nightly sports call a month or so ago that they will be lucky to have 3 decent seasons in the next 30 years. i got to agree unless Cuban buys the team. currently, our owners spend no money and draft inferior players because they don't want to pay anything out. look at the history of our trades the last 10-15 years and you'll see some real stinkers. then, there was the kipper for howard deal that DL turned down... that sure worked out well for the sucks.

A13, I did, the Mets were awful from 1989 to 1999. I remember listening to them on WFAN back in the day, Piazza would be on third, Ventura on 1st, and there'd be no outs and I'd be praying for two walks to knock in a run.
Even the Mets team that made it to the World Series was smoke and mirrors. The Pirates will contend in a year or two even if they just let this roster grow up together, the NL Central stinks and you could realistically make a run at the division next year.
I predict the Pirates will be in the World Series before the Penguins get to the Stanley Cup or the Steelers get to the Super Bowl again... they really are finally going in the right direction, you guys just can't see the forest for the trees.
Sorry if I was a little harsh up there. I guess I'd feel bad to if a World Series Championship contending team wasn't my birthright as a New Yorker.

if DL stays as GM, he'll trade away some players for nothing, get rid of high paid guys, then bring in over priced 38 year olds. he's already saying that Chacon woln't be back, who says he loves it here and has been one of the few good guys in the bullpen.
the pirates woln't compete any time soon. the NL central is getting pretty strong... next year i expect the cubs and cards to run away early and make it a 2 horse race.
also, as far as the pens, that reminds me of a topic i need to make. :D

Yeah once, and you made a movie about. One championship in 86 years. I guess they needed to make a movie so the next generation knows that you won a World Series.

You got Ellsbury & Buchholz called up in Boston... anybody else with good future call ups?
What about the Phillies, have they ever called up C.J. Henry? I have some of his cards put back after he got drafted by the Yankees, then he got traded to the Phillies and I lost track of him.

WOW, bitter much? I think he was saying the Red Sox had already completed their September call up. Jacoby Ellsbury thus far looks great, and makes me wonder what on earth the Sox are going to do with the corpse of J.D. Drew?? Buchholz should replace Schilling in the rotation next year, and just think, we still have Jed Lowrie and Justin Masterson knocking on the door. I'm liking the looks of the kids in beantown, very promising.

Bitter much may be too mild. Brandon Moss who just got called up may have some potential and a guy named Mike Bowden in AA looks very good although he has a way to go before being called up. As far as other possibles I think they have already arrived from the Pawsox. I agree with you Tarz..Why they ever took Drew in the first place is a question and I doubt that they will renew Shil's contract. I see the both of them come in to play an I already know the sox have a problem.

Bitter about what? I'm a New York fan, not a Philly fan. I just think its hillarious that we have parades and Boston fans make movies.
You guys are probably all huddled in the local pub praying to God that you don't see Anaheim in round 1.
I predict the Yankees will win five more series before Boston gets another... and they may start this year. :D

I find it funny how some people can be condescending and moronic all at the same time. For the record I never made a movie nor visited upon any parades, I was just happy my team won the series in 2004 like any fan would be. I've never even seen fever pitch, and don't care if I ever do, and if I hear "Tessie" one more time I'll probably puke.
Secondly, I don't drink, nor do I sit huddled in any pubs with anyone praying about anything. I'm a buddhist and believe in enlightment and self realization, praying for something as meaningless as a victory for my local sports team is not worth my time, or karma.
And to be honest, I don't care how many series New York wins, I don't concern myself with them. I'm a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots and have been since I was a wee lad. I've been through the bad times, and the good times. Do I enjoy it more when the teams win, YES. Who doesn't? Do I live and die with the morning sports scores, NO. So I'm afraid you can take your ignorant pigeon-holed characterizations and aim them at someone else.
Or, you could be productive and predict more huge profits from products like 2007 Topps Chrome Baseball. Afterall, we all know if your penchant for being right. :)

Profit on 14 out of 15 products I picked this year and this is what I get? Now I know how the Yankees and Mets feel because they are expected to win every year. :D
If you cannot see good-natured jabbing here I am sorry. I don't have any real dislike of the Red Sox (or Penguins for that matter), but I do like rousting, and like any good rabble-rouser, I can take it as well as give it.
The funny thing is Score and Topps Chrome came out at the same time, so if you followed my plan on both, you still made money.
As of right now I'm in the hole $300 for Topps Chrome and up $1100 on Score Football, and I still have a ton of it to sell, so I expect to turn a profit on Topps Chrome eventually.
Now back to the subject, I would LOVE to see Phillip Humber up for a start to spell John Maine. Maine is a great pitcher, he just needs to get his head screwed on right. Treat Maine like a lefty and you will be fine.
Oh and if I hear Tessie again I might throw up too, but its nowhere near as bad as the new Mets theme music.

Enough said, my apologies if my last post was out of line. I was tired and cranky last night and was a bit more costic than I should have been. My only real problem is EVERYONE thinks all Red Sox fans are that way and it's annoying. There are a lot of retard fanboys, but there are a lot of mellow guys like me that just love the Sox.
Overall I just really love baseball. I follow most of the young guys coming up through the systems, and I think it's fun to watch them break into the show. I agree with you about Humber as well. It would be nice to see him called up and see what he's got. My own personal belief is he will be a bit better than Pelfrey, though after this season I think Pelfrey will be fine too, just moved him up a bit too quickly without letting him iron out any flaws in his delivery or develop a nasty breaking pitch. He's getting there though.
The Yankees farm system is looking nice too. Ian Kennedy is going to be really good, Joba will only get better and Phil Hughes will likely rebound now that he as a year under him. All that and Betances waiting in the wings, looks pretty promising. It's funny, in a couple of years the Yankees, Sox and Mets are going to look completely different and we'll be rooting on a whole new generation of players. Kind of an exciting time.
Again, my apologies KD, as I should have never called your business accumen into question. I've lost on more products lately than I've made with so I'm in no position to rib you about anything. Hopefully this buries the hatchet. Take care.

I didn't touch the stuff, but I did get killed on Topps Tx football, so we all have it happen. Should have known to stay away from that, but the gambler in me liquified the intelligent part of my brain. Thinking about doing some Goudey too, I should probably just quit while I'm down. LOL

Must have missed this thread or something. Good stuff but the above post was the absolute best. BD if you haven't put down the spoon and lighter yet let me lock you into a wager on that prediction before you come out of the haze. The Pens will be in the finals within the next 3 years. Steelers aren't that far behind the Colts and Pats but ALOT depends on how Big Ben plays for them to contend. IF they were in the NFC, I'd pick them to go to the Superbowl this year. The only way the Pirates will see a World Series in that same time period is if they buy tickets. They have some good young talent but still have alot of holes to fill. Lots of wasted high draft picks in that system over the last 10 years.

I don't get it.
You have the start of a top-notch rotation:
Gorzelany
Snell
Duke (injured but will be back)
Maholm
Bullington
A decent lineup that should improve including
Paulino
Sanchez
Bay
LaRoche
A decent pen
and prospects like Andrew McCutchen coming up.
You brought Matt Morris in to stabilize the rotation.
...and most importantly, the National League Central sucks!!! They would only need to be 5-6 over .500 to win their division.

I know what the criticism was about. I still have made money on 14 out of 15 products. I'm getting pretty sick of the rip and list routine though, the profit margins get smaller and smaller and the work seems to get much more tedious.
