No shows but a LCS is having like a Customer Appreciation Day on June. Gonna have raffles (no big prizes though), might have some players too.

Me too. Wish Hollywood park or even Van Nuys shows were still here. So cal has been neglected too long already.

You folks in SoCal ain't missing much, you got tons of LCS's in LA & Orange county alone, but I don't envy your traffic one bit, it was bad enough 30 years ago and there were much fewer cars on the road then. If it's any consolation NorCal ain't all that... there's only 2 LCS within my area, one guy carries mainly comics & some hockey, with a minimal amount of baseball, even less football and zero basketball. The other shop has tons of any & everything dating back to 80's junk wax but he's pricey, which is why he's still got massive amounts of 35+ year old product sitting in his shop. Everything's spread out and the bay area commuter traffic sucks just as bad with the added inconvenience of bridge tolls but if it makes you feel any better we'll gladly let you have the Raiders back for a second run.

I agree... the closest thing to a show is the semi-annual Long Beach Coin and Stamp Expo which has a small pavilion of sports and non sports trading card dealers.
Gone are the days where you get a room of something for everyone, be it new releases, like wax boxes and packs; coupled by new singles; as well as vintage cards; and commons or clearance cheaper cards like jersey inserts and autographs.
The convention held at Hollywood Park Casino / Race Track was the best of that era.
Then there was one in Culver City most recently, but years ago which was on the fringe of being good overall.
Now, the best place for sort of a convention of sort is "Frank and Sons" in the City of Industry, a weekly swap meet held I think on Wed and the Weekends year 'round, but at least you have a lot of dealers who don't have the brick and mortar LCS overhead of rent coupled by competition at the next booth which makes pricing sometimes decent. I've not gone to F&S for years 'tho, so am not sure if it's still as good as it used to be.
BTW - If you like strip clubs, because F&S is in the City of Industry, which is a good hour away from civilized metro LA, that's about the only other thing to do in that area if you're taking the journey out there, but many have what connoisseurs call "liberal rules" if ya know what I mean...

Tell me this isn't you Randy??? Back in the early '90s I used to help a friend in his shop and also at a monthly show, the guy loved food and strippers in no particular order. He'd bring in about $1500 a day but spend $2K on food & Korean bar champagne rooms. Good times but we're too old for that stuff nowadays!

I actually stopped in at Frank and Sons once and it was ok. A few decent booths, but there is so much Pokeman/Anime/Little Asian emo kids running around it kind of ruins the vibe. Hard for me to justify the hour plus drive out there just for that.

No idea what will be there but I know I'll be there just because... I'm not expecting much from an inaugural event, and given the high profile guest appearances (or lack thereof) announced to date - chances are it could be a one & done event. I don't foresee hoards of people storming the place for Pete's sake... just heard a radio add w/Ruthie Bolton endorsing some financial institution who got her through her bankruptcy, I hope for her sake she's not looking to move in on Rose's auto gravy train because the demand ain't there and if it were Klay and not his dad, there may be greater interest.
I'm only attending because there's such a dearth of hobby enthusiasts in my area that I'm hoping to be wrong on my initial thoughts and happen to catch lightning in a bottle.

Well the drive was pleasant, very nice venue... wide open with lots of free parking. The only other time I'd been there was back in '98 when they were in the midst of BRAC and the place was a ghetto ghost town. As for the event itself, it was pretty desolate, a lot of empty tables. Over half of the area was occupied by a women's roller derby group who didn't add any entertainment value. There was one food vendor selling hot dogs & tri-tip type stuff, not sure what else was they offered but something reeked bad - the whole room smelled like grilled squid and there was no seafood on the menu.
A generous guess, I'd say 25 dealers and less than 400 attendees total. The first 1,000 people got a Panini promotional pack, I went in 4 hours after the doors opened and there were still hundreds of packs remaining - well over a half to three quarters. A couple of vintage dealers; two tables carried newer wax, the one that was heavily stocked began packing up about 3 hours before it ended and was gone. Sadly Pete Rose was the main and basically only attraction and he was sticking it out until the very end, even though there were no more people coming through the doors. The other signers were heading out by 2:30-3:00. The last show I attended was nearly 10 years ago and it was a small one in the Westfield mall, this one would've made it look like the national. Either the event organizers did a poor job of advertising & promoting it or the hobby is clinging to life support; I'm hoping it's the former because between the MCC events page and the promoter's FB page, they couldn't even get the ticket prices in agreement, the advance ticket sales link didn't even work.
My goal was to buy/trade for a Contenders or SPA Tom Brady RC, '11 Bowman Chrome auto Bryce Harper & '13 Bowman Chrome Correa - not a single one to be had. Surprisingly there was quite a bit of Giants & 49ers stuff but not much Oakland to include the Warriors.

Beyond bad but you really didn't miss much to begin with. Entry fee was $7, I won a $15 silent auction and the guy running it didn't have change for $20, told me to ask the admissions people and both women claimed to not have any smaller bills in the register. With a couple hundred people coming through the doors, is it wrong to think they would have a couple of tens, fives & ones? I really don't see this being a successful annual event and if there is another, they need to close the side door or they'll get zero paying customers.
