I've managed an incredible 18 points this week. Told you guys I was done
You've got 53 points. |
Meant today. It's taking an emotional toll
Meant today. It's taking an emotional toll
Well I had just 10 points on Monday. Only reason I'm in the lead is because my opponent hasn't used a single starting pitcher. I've used 4 of them & I'm only ahead by 23 points. |
I'm not super excited about making strikeouts 0 points either. But we won't be able to equally increase hitting power across all hitters- If we make it 2 points for RBI, power hitters will be more valuable than top of the order guys. If we make runs 2 points, then conversely the top of the order guys become more valuable
Speaking in general terms for simplicity's sake, I know this won't always be the case
Make runs = 1.5 and RBI = 1.5. Boom. |
I have 4 pitchers going today so hoping for a big day
|
I'm surprised that someone dropped yelich

Why? He won't be kept on my team for next year. There are only 25 keepers and this is my OF so far. JD Martinez Yoenis Cespedes Josh Reddick Gregory Polanco Hanley Ramirez Jay Bruce Randal Gricuk |
*Only* all but 5 of our players? :)!

I've got just 3. You may just take the lead back again today. |
*Only* all but 5 of our players? :)!
Yes and I have 2 guys on the DL that will be kept. Like I said, he would not have been kept so I went with a rookie pitcher in Lamb for the time being. |
Well what do you know? My starting pitchers continue to put up negative points.
What the hell happened to my pitching??? |
Don't everyone jump on him at once but Chase Anderson has been dropped and available on waivers.
|
Don't everyone jump on him at once but Chase Anderson has been dropped and available on waivers.
I had him across 8 match-ups. He had one week week with 26, but was worth 35 points over his full stint. Definitely not the most consistent pitcher... |
Koehler had an early 5 run lead but he blew it by giving up 7 runs and now he's on the line for the lose. That pretty much sums up every single pitcher that has started for me with the exception of Iwakuma.

So I opened my Topps Chrome case and the best auto (player-wise) was Archie Bradley. That's all I have to say about that.

Ouch. I would never touch that stuff |
My team is so bi polar
|
Ouch. I would never touch that stuff
I was hoping for at least 1 of the following autos: Bryant, Pederson, Syndergaard, Rodon, Kang, Plawecki, Buxton, Russell, Soler, Baez, Franco, Castillo, or Tomas. None of that happened.:mad::mad: The only good thing was that I got 4 out of the 5 rookie SPs (Correa, Lindor, Buxton, Syndergaard). The only one I didn't get was Gallo, but he's the worst out of those 5 IMO so I wasn't that upset about that part. |

What was your best auto non-player wise? |
What was your best auto non-player wise?
Lol. I only said player-wise because I got an Orange auto of Brandon Finnegan /25. The actual card is better than the Bradley but the player isn't. |
My starters this week...
Koehler -15 Anderson -2 Gibson -2 Liriano +7 Iwakuma +22 That is a combined 10 points from 5 starter (avg 2 points per start) I have no idea what's going on but my pitching has just been atrocious lately. |

I'm not a big fan of prospecting, so I wouldn't buy a case of Draft though I've bought boxes before. As for ebay, I wouldn't know what to buy as I don't really have a PC since my whole collection is based off of opening boxes. After this case, I think I'm going to stick with opening assorted boxes instead of a case. |

You are throwing your money away with boxes. Singles are the way to go. I used to love opening stuff, but now I enjoy following prospects a lotttttt more. |
I'd rather have 7 $10 chrome autos over a $70 box
I'd rather have 7 $10 chrome autos over a $70 box
I think the fun factor of opening a box and the possibility of pulling a $500 card out of a $70 box is what leads people to buying a box instead of a bunch of cards that cost the same as that box. |

Idk. I hate when I buy a $70 box and get absolutely nothing. Literally 99% of the time, nothing is worth more than $1.50. It feels like the biggest waste of money. Now, imagine if you bought a nice Harper or correa with your chrome money. Those cards could potentially be a $700-$900 base auto, and if they got injured you could still get most of your money back...unlike the case you bought |

The only thing about buying 1 expensive card right now is that I wouldn't enjoy it. Sure, I wouldn't have wasted my money on it like a bad case or boxes, but it wouldn't serve a meaning in my collection as I don't have a PC nor have I ever bought a single card over $10. I will probably start a PC once I get paypal and start selling some cards on here or ebay, but as of now I stick to buying boxes. |
I don't think I could ever stop buying boxes completely. It's just so fun to rip wax. My budget doesn't allow me to buy many boxes tho, so I do but a lot more (quantity wise) singles than boxes. Honestly, I probably spend more on singles than I would if I just bought a few boxes, so whoops. I do my best to only buy with money I've earned from selling tho, which helps keep prices down. Someday when I don't have college bills, I'll splurge on a case of something. That would be a LOT of fun
|
And 7jacfire, if those chrome RC SPs aren't going in your PC, you should be able to make about half of the case price back just by selling those 4, I believe
|
Regarding the scoring system for next year...
I think we should just make RBI & runs both worth 2 points. I don't like the idea of points in decimals. |
Don't let me hold up your football league Hollywood
|
I'm gonna lose to saf lmaooo
|
If I didn't change my lineup today I would've had 17 more points instead of the 9 I have now for offense.
|
My team better pick it up today...I'm down by 4.

Since east and west means nothing, here are the standings:

You didn't post in that thread that you were interested and it filled up so we started figuring things out... Sorry! :p Something tells me that there's a team or two that won't be active after the first few weeks tho, so I'll let you know at any possibilities of replacing someone

Here are the top 20 pitchers at current scoring to compare to what Gum posted above.
Current Scoring (Pitchers): 1. Clayton Kershaw 519 2. Zack Greinke 505 3. Max Scherzer 495 4. Dallas Keuchel 480 5. Sonny Gray 462 6. Jake Arrieta 457 7. David Price 448 8. Madison Bumgarner 447 9. Jacob deGrom 446 10. Chris Sale 426 11. Johnny Cueto 417 12. Corey Kluber 412 13. Chris Archer 14. Gerrit Cole 388 15. Matt Harvey 380 16. Michael Wacha 357 17. Danny Salazar 354 18. Felix Hernandez 353 19. Carlos Carrasco 351 20. Carlos Martinez 337 I think making the runs or RBIs 2 points each is the best idea. Making strikeouts 0 takes away the possibility of a hitter having a negative point game. Making both RBIs and runs 2 points will make hitters more valuable than pitchers. RBIs and runs both 1.5 also isn't bad, but fractional points may be confusing. |

It makes hitters more available than pitchers. |

We're looking for the most mix of color (generally speaking), as that will represent the fairest mix. So, to me, it looks like our current points system is out, as well as RBI and runs 2 points each. Left with:
I think making both the runs & RBI 2 points each is best.
It makes hitters more available than pitchers.
It could be fun with this system. Hitters would become extremely valuable |
I'm fully against 0 K's, and I agree that 2pts for both is out (I feel like if we make batters > pitchers then we do need a full new redraft). So if I had to choose between runs and RBI, I'd go runs just because it is more a factor of the actual batter getting on base, and still matters for HR hitters.
|
Honestly, making strikeouts 0 points makes it the most even based on my colored lists above. I agree that making it so hitters can't have any negative games doesn't make sense, but it would make things the most even
The problem with changing only one between RBIs and runs is that different types of players will benefit. I like making both of them 1.5 in that it increases both categories the same amount, but I'm not a huge fan of fractional scoring. It would be ok if we only did halves, but ehh What if we're looking at this wrong? Should we be trying to bring pitchers down a bit rather than bringing hitters up? I think that would be worth trying, but I don't see an obvious/good way to do that |

I agree with this. I don't want hitters k's to go to 0 at all. |
If you take K's away it changes the individual scoring per position drastically.

Looks like it's going to be a blowout in Cincinnati tonight...Reds are going to score double digit runs and the D-Bags will score just 1 if lucky.

We have 5 rookie starting pitchers, we have no ace haha. |
Well at least this will help me decide which team to watch today...D-Bags or Braves...going with the Braves.

Someone like Joc Pederson or Stanton or Chris Davis with benefit HUGELY while guys like Rizzo that don't strike out won't get much benefit at all. |

Altuve gets completely screwed by this, it almost makes him a mid tier 2B which isn't right at all as he's one of the best players in the game today |
So, everyone let me know their vote for the changes and I'll keep a running results tally
|
So this is what offense looks like....I haven't seen anything like this from any of my teams in like, forever.
|
Thing about this vote is that people will probably make their decision based on the players currently on their team.

I don't have Altuve but there's no way a guy like that should not be valuable. Guys that strike out 200 tines would automatically shoot up the rankings |
Without even looking at the players on my team and how it will effect me I like the idea of 0 points for strikeouts simply because it makes the value of pitchers & hitters the most even.
I think the 1.5 pts for runs & RBI also makes them pretty even in value but I just hate the idea of decimals for some reason. I don't like having an RBI worth more than a run & the other way around. 2 points for both RBI & runs make the position players significantly more valuable which troubles me a bit. As of right now for me it's a toss up between 0 pts for K's and 1.5 per run/RBI. I can't give you a definite decision just yet. |

I can see that point of view. It gives power hitters a huge advantage over high contact hitters. |
I think that I am starting to lean toward the 1.5 point idea. I hate decimals but it makes the most sense to me.
|
Whatever decision we make, there will ALWAYS be a player that gets shafted while another benefits more than they should. That's just how it is. We need to make the decision based on hitters in general.
|
As always, if someone thinks they have an idea that would work better, please share it

If you do runs it won't be that big of a difference. But if you do strikeouts that makes players that aren't that great straight into top tier at their positions. Brian Dozier leads all 2b in strikeouts by a ton. Right now at 2b it's Ian Kinsler - 314 Points Brian Dozier- 304 If we change the strike outs Ian Kinsler- 382 Brian Dozier- 420 That's insane. |

Me and Deathy had a close matchup last time and this is shaping up to be another one
|
I'm in favor of keeping the scoring as it is now.

At the moment I'm on pace to having one of my worst weeks ever so I'm surprised you aren't ahead of me by 50 points. I've used 7 starting pitchers so far and only one of them has given me more than 15 points and nearly half of them have had negative point performances. It's frigging ridiculous. I'm sure Scherzer is going to get beat to crap. |
I'm in favor of keeping the scoring as it is now.
Do you really want to go through all that crap again to make a trade? That's what will happen every time if we keep it the same |
Maybe 0 for strikeouts and 2 for stolen bases. This would make Dee and altuve a little more valuable
|
Do you really want to go through all that crap again to make a trade? That's what will happen every time if we keep it the same
No, but I just wouldn't make any more trades. I'm honestly super content with my team as it is now. I'm definitely pitching heavy but my offense isn't horrible. |
We can't make everyone happy. There's all stars in every sport that aren't great fantasy players
