fakes..
I don't see the difference with serial numbers that makes me believe they are fake. What makes 9899 ruby Kobe fake? serial number/? font?

The serial number is part of it. There are graphic elements on the back that also give it away. There's no real difference on the front as far as I know. I won't go into detail but you can compare the serial number to the 9899 ruby 14/50 Kobe that probstein auctioned a few days ago. That one was the real 14/50. |
What say you oh master of all pmgs?

Should be an interesting one to watch... |

All player collectors know the 99/00 Stadium Club First Day Issue Refractor /25 is a difficult card to come by. When I saw it was recently listed by probstein, I was thrilled and had to win it. After receiving, I was contacted by a good friend on blowout who thought the serial number looked suspect and may be a fake. Wondering if anybody else with some knowledge about this set also has an opinion on this? Thanks......

That's one of the aftermarket stamps. Interestingly, it's the same stamp used to alter the backdoored golden anniversary refractors from 98 Bowman Chrome baseball. Clearly someone got ahold of a bunch of backdoored basketball/baseball topps sheets and used the same stamp on all of them. This is what it should look like. Difference is most noticeable on the "5", and the fact that there's no messy overprinting. |
Sorry Josiah. I know that’s a tough one to stomach. If you decide to send it back you’re going to probably go years without finding a good one. When I let our resident kukoc collector know that I had found one, he told me that it was the only refractor he needed for his collection. They’re just tough as nails to find. Which makes this even more dissapointing.
Sadly, we’ve seen many many after market stamps on these stadium first day refractors. I had to tell another one of our good members here that his stockton was not entirely original. All of this begs one important question - how many got out? Was it a sheet? More? If you see any other Nash’s - let us know! Knowing how many fakes there are will be helpful. Sorry again brother. |

Really Appreciate the knowledge and info Rogermaris and also the help from Adam who brought me to this thread. Although it sucks finding out my new acquisition is a fake, deep down I’m grateful to learn its true identity. Not sure if probstein will help me out but I’m gonna contact them anyway to see if there’s anything they can do. I will keep you posted on any other Nash’s I come across to help others from making the same mistake. Thanks |
Here’s a counterfeit Golden Anniversary Refractor Griffey with the same stamping as the Nash, like @rogermaris said.
This is the only counterfeit I’ve seen of Griffey but I’ve seen other players in the set with counterfeit stamping added to an unnumbered proof. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think it's the 4th or 5th time being listed since it was first called out in this thread... |

I know this card is not as expensive as most of the cards posted here, but it is my first time in buying a basketball card since I sold my collection over ten years ago, so I am hoping someone can verify this card’s authenticity. I just received it today and the auction link is below, thank you: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Kobe-Bryant-1997-98-Z-Force-Rave-195-BRYANT-Rave-Parallel-357-399-BGS-8-5/292835323929?hash=item442e587019:g:08UAAOSwxG9b~Mi8 |

I've never seen a fake from that set but there are a ton floating around with aftermarket stamps. I think the last three Jordan Raves I've seen auctioned were backdoored... Nice card! |
Buyers beware, the infamous backdoored kvh 97-98 rubies is back on EBay and looks like it was recently graded by bgs...sigh. Can someone please confirm that the serial is wayyyyy off. The "1" should have an underscore if I'm not mistaken. Thank you and happy holidays!

Nice card!
Thank you. By the way, has there ever been a counterfeit 96-97 credentials made? I’m eyeing on the credentials set on eBay and it’s pricier than anything I have ever bought, so I’m wondering if the cards are real. On a second thought, I’ll wait till eBay offer discount. Hopefully, it’ll still be available. |
