Very true. This is me and I didn't even think of it. LOL. I don't buy unless I sell!

Exactly. People buy heavily to try and avoid the 20% cash out fee. COMC stated a 70% increase in sales when ebay began. So safe to say, people's sales are way down again so they aren't spending.

Should only be a matter of time before they realize no one is buying/selling without eBay...

My sales aren't terrible right now - already halfway to September's total in six days this month. It does make me wonder how much better I would be doing if all of the stuff I've sent in was listed on eBay right now as well...especially with eBay Bucks getting released earlier this week.

FWIW - eBay accounts for 21 of the 70 sales during that time (30%) - Amazon was only 4.

Mine have been right about on average for October as well - to be honest, there really hasn't been many peaks or valleys over the course of the last twelve months. Sales have been much better starting at about the Black Friday Sale last year and have continued through pretty steady.

Certainly the eBay opportunity has helped clean out a lot of stuff and hit me at a time when I hadn't added any new cards in a couple months so it helped boost sales that would have likely lagged a bit.

So far this month I have sold 37 items (September was 168) - average sale price is around $2.50 both months.
Amazon has accounted for seven sales this month (18 total in Sept)
Ebay has accounted for ten sales this month (31 total in Sept)

Certainly not the volume or size of many of you folks but I still think it's noteworthy information. Without looking too much into the numbers I would venture to bet that my sales have remained fairly constant in all of these averages - $350/150 cards/similar spread between Amazon/Ebay per month

What was the Black Friday promotion? I just started selling earlier this year so I missed it, wondering if they'll run it again.

They run it every year. Basically, they allow sellers to run sales free of charge, while offering buyers incentives too. Nothing major but buyers and sellers alike welcome it each year. (Saying that, they usually run a promo around the National which they didnt this time. Would be stunned if the Black Friday/Cyber Monday promo was canned though.)

RandysHobby 10-06-2016 04:51 PM

I must specialize in selling on eBay then. My sales are DOWN BIG TIME since they stopped adding me stuff to eBay.

notsublime 10-06-2016 09:22 PM

Just a few months ago COMC had 0 listed on eBay. There is something like 5.4 million COMC cards listed on eBay. That is almost half of there total inventory. If the items you already have on eBay aren't selling, not sure why anyone would think more inventory would make it any better.
I'm not sure why everyone is seeing such a decline in sales. October has always been a slow month for me. I know I've been holding off on some of my purchases for actual "sales" and hopefully the Black Friday weekend.

sjscout 10-06-2016 09:56 PM

I would not have send anymore cards to COMC if the ebay deal was not in place.

Swipe79 10-06-2016 10:11 PM

Hmm...New releases, hot players, new inventory...why would anyone want that.

Keeping the inventory fresh is a pretty big deal. People are buying Heritage, Bowman Chrome, Topps Chrome, etc. right now. None of the stuff from my breaks or lot purchases from those products are on eBay right now.

When I specifically sent stuff using Premium and Select service with the assumption I'm getting the cross listing - it makes me upset. If I had knon this was going on, I would have probably held some back to sell here or directly on eBay.

There is also the idea of a consumer getting ready to buy something and then seeing that additional cards ship for only .25 more apiece. The more out there and available, the more likely someone will purchase multiple cards.

I get the new fresh inventory thing. So maybe COMC would better serve you and themselves by listing only brand new products and dumping all the rest?

Not sure why you'd assume anything about COMC. The program is in Beta testing, they owe you nothing in regards to eBay. What happens if they decide to quit the eBay experiment?

I keep hearing the idea of not sending cards to COMC and doing it on eBay yourself. Maybe that is what you and the others should do.

They are still listing items on Amazon so you got to be happy with that right?

Swipe79 10-06-2016 11:48 PM

You glossed over the idea of inventory. It's important to have as much listed as possible to offer your buyer selection. It's important to have the new inventory listed, as well as having the old inventory listed.

Why does anyone assume anything? My hope was that they saw what a boon this was to their sellers and would continue to embrace the program and the success. I didn't say they owed me anything, but it would've been a huge benefit to them to inform their customers that they were halting eBay stuff for a bit. Seeing as sellers provide the product in this model.

I increased my investment in COMC as a direct result of sales once the cross-listing program started. I also began sending in higher value cards that seem to sell better on eBay. I also paid additional funds to expedite processing on a lot of cards, because they are new products or hot players.

If they decided to quit the eBay experiment it would confirm a lot of things for a lot of us that have been selling on there for years.

My eBay sales are outpacing Amazon 21:4 so far this month.

Again, Why to do you think your eBay sales are slower, other than less fresh inventory? I'm asking because I think its kind of weird that the older stuff sold just fine the first 3 months, now nothing seems to be moving.

What I've been getting at is, what are other factors for the slow down. Is it the season/month, feedback, buyers migrated from eBay to COMC direct, large amount of inventory/flooded market/competition, people holding back, investing in other products than cards such as the market or metals? I think it's more than just fresh inventory issue.

Swipe79 10-07-2016 12:20 AM

I don't believe I said my eBay sales are slower. I did wonder how I would be doing if the newer stuff (hundreds of cards) were also cross-listed - you know the new products and hot players that people are buying right now.

As it looks right now, I'm going to beat my September numbers - I'm halfway there already within six days this month. Hard to know if it would matter, but I'm pretty sure having more available for buyers on eBay would lead to additional sales for me.

In other news I got my 200+ damaged items email tonight (shipment of 4,000+)

Why don't we get the option to upgrade item by item to select with condition note? For example, I sent 700 Desert Shield cards, which are notorious for issues with rough corners. If they were from 1979 or before they would have notes added and that would be the end of it. Instead I have basically no options. What if I want some back, some donated, some upgraded to select?

If I send 1 card at a time I get 1 damaged card notice. If I send 2,500 in a box I get them all uselessly lumped together

To be honest I've been pretty disappointed in general by their overall business. James and Norbert and I'm sure others are always so nice and helpful over the phone. But the actual experience and interface just seems like such an amateur hour hack job

cruiserdaddy7 10-07-2016 12:28 AM

To shift gears a tad instead of being critical of COMC for halting the ebay, lets speculate as to why:

Do we think maybe shipping was too taxing on their system?

Maybe the potential returns/fraud was not worth the risk?

Not as profitable after they had to hire all of the new staffing?

Simple as a program issue with software?

Maybe on their end there is a good reason for it. I had always wondered, if someone cashes out after a large ebay sale and then item is returned, how many of those can COMC eat? Putting the users account in negative does no good if user never comes back or was gaming the system.

Just wondering aloud. I found myself being very critical of COMC without considering the many reasons why this ebay thing was put on hold.

premium1981 10-07-2016 12:57 AM

I see two reasons for the halt. I think it was better than anticipated and they got overrun by orders. That is the first reason. The second reason is they are probably tweaking their beta program as well as the fee system they talked about. It will probably be started back up with changes. I see them as doing all of this right now to prep for Black Friday through Christmas sales that are about to begin. I'm honestly ok with it, I just wish they would communicate. In all business, communication is crucial. Guess we will all continue to speculate until something happens. Not much else we can do while they are being coy with their answers.

OLDPAPER 10-07-2016 05:10 AM

This whole ebay thing and the accompanying non-communication reminds me from a great line from the movie Animal House....and should become COMC's motto....You f'd up...You trusted us!
What if I want some back, some donated, some upgraded to select?
Have them all sent to you and send in the "damaged" ones you want at select under select. Keep the ones you want back, and donate the rest. All they do with the donated ones now is take them back out and drop them off at Goodwill. They didn't charge you the quarter per card to tell you they were all damaged. So paying 50 cents next week to get them listed select would still cost you the same amount.

I separate the cards that I would want to donate (less than $2 cards) and the ones I would want to list with comment (above $2 cards) in my basic submissions so I get two photos with rejected cards. I donate the cheap ones, and upgrade to Select on the others.

Swipe79 10-07-2016 09:49 AM

I never knew this was even an option - I had conversations with Nathan about this and how I thought it was terrible that we had no options with cards that randomly become damaged after leaving our hands.

He gave me the party line and I just figured it was a lost cause. It sure seems like they would communicate this as an option to people...hmm...there is that word again. Don't they have a Communications Manager...Director...or something like that?

I had one card in my last return that just boggles my mind. It was a Gypsy Queen auto that had an entire corner bent over basically. I know for a fact that it was not like that when I sent in and no other cards had the same damage that would constitute the package being damaged...just another one of those mysteries I guess.
