Update. I've been sorting through the box for a little while now. And I'm trying to decide if the content left in it is worth shipping. The quality of it is down probably a good 75% from what I put it together initially. I'm going to finish going through it and give it some thought. I have a good pile of stuff to clean it up with as well, but not really sure if it is worth it to continue it on or not.

I know I do not have enough to start even a medium flat rate box on my own. I would love to breathe some life back into this, but if you say it may not be worth it then maybe we let this one die. How do you think we can get another one going?

I can add a stack of cards if you think you can get a box going. Not tons like some have but I have some that I think others might want.

If enough people on here are interested in sending a batch of good decent stuff to Dashcol. ( I will include the worthwhile stuff from the box plus my own contribution. Then Dashcol can assemble those and continue the program. I just need people on here to say approximately how much then can contribute to determine if we'd have enough. I'll let Dashcol determine if he thinks it's enough to restart. Fair enough?

I'll go first and say that I can contribute a 300 count box and a 400 count box.

I’ll go through stuff the next couple days and report how many I have to include.

As for what I would be able to add it would be about 600 cards total. It would all be primarily baseball with a couple basketball and football thrown in. It would be all rookies (2018-2021), inserts (2017-2021), parallels (2012-2021) superstar base (Trout, Acuna, Tatis, and Ohtani), vintage (pre 1980) and a couple relics and autos. I can even add in a couple packs I have laying around, and I think I may even have a blaster or hanger from 2021 that I have no need for, but I would have to double check whether I do or not, I honestly can’t remember, lol!

Nothing huge, but all cards that are typically in the $1-10 range.

I think between what you have and what I have we would be really close to having the box back to its initial glory! Maybe even better than it was at first!

The first time I did a major cleanup and combined two boxes into one, I made 4 300 count boxes, 1 for rookies, 1 for inserts, 1 for relics/autos and 1 for superstars and oddballs. It seems like that went away at some point, but I would like to see if we can keep it close to that. I am not sure how we keep people accountable though.

I don’t care if people can’t add in the same level of cards that others put in the box, not everyone has the same means as others, but we need to keep people from taking all the decent stuff out of the box and replacing rookies, autos and parallels with 1980s and 90s junk.

My son has always loved going through the box and contributing as well (mainly with my cards, but always happy to contribute so he can enjoy going through the box - he still says the President cards and the one random graded card (his first PSA Gem 10 card) are his favorites).

Looking at what I have set aside over the past 4-5 months I would say I have predominantly baseball and have at least a 300-400 count box to add.

With that being said, maybe we shrink down to a medium flat rate vs the large flat rate we have been using and go from there?

Happy to grab after you dashcol and then I can send to the next after I add my contribution.

When I received the box, I enjoyed going through it. Value-wise, there wasn’t much in there and I definitely added more value than I took out of it (at least a ratio of 10:1 because I felt bad for the next person who would receive it, even added a $2 bill to the box) but it was a nice little distraction from early pandemic life.

If it restarts with good stuff, just need to enforce some rules to ensure that early participants don’t grab all of the “good” stuff without replacing them with equally “good” cards.

It's a natural thing that it's going to degrade over time. Most of the people who get the boxes are unknown people. And it's impossible to force them to do things. We can continue to ask for pictures. and maybe try to tell people they are going to have to post pictures before the request the box, but people will still do what they do. It's still a fun program and if we can get close to a standard before moving on, that's not such a bad thing even if it ends up dead in 6 months from now. That's 6 more months of fun that we were able to spread.

That being said, it's a worthwhile effort to make, and I'll get my stuff out to you this week, and we'll go from there. PM me your info I don't think I have it handy.

All very fair points. This has gone on longer than I ever expected so that does mean that most people are absolutely adding nice stuff to the box. There was a Jim Palmer auto claimed out of the box a couple times ago which is an awesome card.

Received a package today from mmbtvs to get this built back up.

I haven’t gone through anything yet other than emptying out the outer box, but it appears to me between what he sent, and what I have, we will have AT LEAST a medium flat rate box ready to go back out into the wild! I might be able to find enough stuff to get a large flat rate, but no promises there.

I will go through everything and organize it all and see what I come up with. Just from pulling the stuff out of the box, there is one thing I’m keeping for myself!

I will let everyone know when it is ready to go back out to the next person, but I think I will be ready to ship probably Friday. I will make this a priority.

As long as everyone agrees, here is what I propose. I want to get the box as strong as possible and keep it that way and have had a few members reach out to me wanting to add a stack of cards to it. I don’t want everyone to send the cards to me as I think it would be too much for one box, and not enough for two boxes.

I am going to take what mmbtvs sent me, toss a small amount of it away and then add in the two 350 count boxes I have to add to it, I will then send it on to one of the people who wanted to add to it and have them do the same thing. I have a list of three people who wanted to just add to the box so those are the next three people to get the box.

I wold like the box to go to these three people, in the order that I have them listed:

1) I will send the box to jlzinck
2) jlzinck will send the box to cardtrader22
3) cardtrader22 will send the box to Bcwcardz
4) Bcwcardz will chose whomever they decide to send it to after that.

If we all agree to that, I believe this box will be at a point where it has better contents than what the original box had.

This took a bit more than I thought, and it ended up depleting my freebie box which is not a big deal, it is the point of the freebie box! However, I do not know how long it will take to build back up, so I may not be ready to clean up the box again any time soon.
