Truth. Although I do think the hobby is catching on. About 8-15 years ago, original art for 90s Marvel cards could be found at auction for bargain prices. And do I mean bargain. Some seriously iconic card paintings only going for like 1k-3k. Some less than 1k.

Now though, prices are at multiples of that. The 96MM Boris/Julie paintings that sold in the 60-90k range a piece do show the tides have changed (although unusual since those are some of the best paintings of the era). But I think in general OA is way undervalued. Part of the reason is card collectors dont always go for paintings.

Also the Wolverine has been updated on the list.

It was a good decision to do this since we can have some insights into whats still available come epack time.

So far the Wolive red spectrum, Spidey preserved amber red, Spidey vs Venom BSG gold, and Thanos red spectrum are off the table for epack. I wonder what other monsters will be off the table by the time it comes out.

Clearly physical is not exhausted, but signifying a good chunk of the run should be in epack.

I am still recording these, and have added a few since last post. Most recently a Miles Morales red spectrum on eBay with asking price 30,000 obo (sheesh).

We are at 42 recorded 1/1s out of 205 total, or about 20%. Assuming 1/1s are seeded at the same proportion in physical vs epack, a reasonable assumption, we can make some guesstimates on the percentage of the print run opened.

We must ask 2 questions.
A. How likely is it for a pulled 1/1 to be posted in the public sphere? (generally online)
B. Given that a 1/1 is posted in the public sphere, how likely is it to be found and posted in this thread.

For A, I’d argue that a 1/1 pulled in todays Marvel card landscape is likely to be posted online, be it via social media or brought to market. Just how the nature of the hobby is, there aren’t many actual collectors for high dollar cards like this. It is much more likely someone pulling a big 1/1 will post that up real fast and try to sell (this is what people gambling on boxes are doing). Many of the actual collectors are character collectors nowadays, so think about how likely it is that the 1/1 they pulled is their character that they will stash way (and also not post)…not likely! There is an 89/90 chance it’s not their character given a 90 card set…and their card will be put on the market. Even if they are holding, people will often post via social media to show it off.

For B, it helps that the options to sell a 2022 MM 1/1 like this are so narrow- it’s basically gonna be on like eBay or Facebook. Then there are the YouTube breaks, but I feel most of them will end up seeing the market (ebay, facebook). So as long as people are tracking the 1/1s from these two places, I think the percentage for B should be fairly high. I have been religiously keeping tabs on the eBay end. I am not on the FB groups to see, but there have been posters in here who have chimed in with many of those (and please share any more you see).

With all that said, we are still in very big guesstimating territory here. The minimum we should expect is 20% of product opened (if A and B are both 100%…nothing gets through unnoticed). . The actual percent will be higher than 20%, but probably not that much higher given the nature of the Marvel card hobby and things always posted now. I think around 25-30% is a good rough guess for the percentage of the print run opened, probably towards the lower side of that. There is also fluke chance element involved but it should smooth out with this many 1/1s you’d think.

But if 25% has already been opened…and there are still many sealed unopened physical boxes left (cases sitting on the big retailers), that means the physical percent of the run would even be higher, maybe even up to the 40% range. Which is surprising because I thought ePack would have been more, like 75/25 in favor of epack.

Just wanted to bump this, almost no additions in quite awhile now. So either people arent opening this anymore, or not being reported much now.

If anyone is on the facebook groups and sees anything not listed in the OP, let me know. I still regularly check ebay but there's been nothing new.

With epack coming probably Feb 2024, it would be a good idea to have honed down much of what is/isnt possible to pull for that.

For a given character, would you rather have the red spectrum or the original painting? Both are 1/1s, each has its different audience of collectors…just wondering what people would choose. I know what I would, but I realize collectors are different.

I don't even want a red spectrum over the SSA! From the videos I've seen, the red spectrum is just a color stripe parallel - if there are other effects, I'm ignorant of them but I feel really unimpressed by it. I would have much preferred red be a /10 and the SSA be the 1/1.

It is indeed a basically just a colored ribbon. The SSA's at least have the added effect of a reflective shining ribbon, they really do pop. Plus the auto. So I see where you're coming from.

I do not own a single red spectrum from any Masterpieces set. As a set collector, Im not big into the concept since I can never collect the set. I did want to finally add just one red spec so I can say I own one, but that has proven harder than I thought. They still go for silly prices. A MM16 Vision red recently ended at ~1500..which seemed down a good bit, but still not something I want to drop on a card, which as you say, just a different ribbon.

My answer to the above question is hands down, far and away the original painting. But it's not a card, and I know some people only are interested in cards.

Haven’t really been updating this but added like 3 red spectrums- 3 (Ultron, Iron Fist, Storm). I went on terapeak and even searching back 2 years of ebay data not really seeing anything not listed here. I think what happened is after the initial craze, box openings have slowed to a crawl. I’m sure I’m missing some out there though.

It’s good to have this list once MM drops on epack to know what’s available to still hit.

Overall if you look at each 1/1 category- red spectrum, preserved amber red, gold gallery, gold BSG…..it’s pretty consistent in running at around 25%ish observed.

This suggests *maybe* epack is around 50% of the run. Out of the 50% physical, there will be some in unopened boxes still, and some not reported….combined could account for about half the physical not in the list (so half of the 50%, or 25%, is actually observed).
