You may be smart. You may be right. But you are very unlikeable (or at least your internet persona is) and you sound like you are 22.5 and graduated college with a degree in knowing everything.
Given that the person Fanatics is putting in charge of sports cards is a sneakerhead with ZERO experience in the card industry, you're probably not too far off..... |
Man.
I hate to say this. But when does LEAF start pumping up the presses??...give me some of minor league and that non team, non licensed autograph jersey stuff. Or repackaged old stuff (which may have topps cards!!) haha, no i am not that crazy..... The day Leaf is the second best card company after Fanatics, i am walking out the door. |

You want someone to shake things up and take an unconventional approach, I guess it could make sense to make the CEO someone who has said sports cards are dead Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Do we get to 75 heritage design???
This is heartbreaking. Every year, I get the Topps factory set and the Topps update set. I've been doing this since I was six years old. My most prized collection is my of my Topps Hall of Famers - I have the last Topps card of every player (all the way back to 1951 Bobby Doerr), and pretty much every Topps card that appeared in a main set for the last forty years (except the 82 Traded Ripken).
I have extreme brand loyalty, and it's no surprise why. These are the cards I collected in my youth. They're the cards my father collected. And soon... they'll be generic brand crap. All because Manfred wanted to chase an extra dollar at the expense of thumbing his nose at the fans. I ******* hate this.
Me too. For many, for years, Topps IS baseball cards. It won't be the same without them! |

Topps has gone through many owners over the last 70 years and will continue to have many more without stopping the brand name. At least that’s my humble opinion. |
I’m already thinking of my exit strategy from this hobby now… :(
Sad day. |
Well on the bright side 2011-2023 makes a pretty good run for ultra modern collecting. Hopefully it's enough to keep my interest in the card market.
I never bought Panini BB and I'll never buy Fanatics BB. I'm absolutely disgusted and heartbroken. |
Problem with that thinking is Poopini sold for pennies on the dollar compared to today's wax because it was in fact Poopini. Think Fanatics is going to release $60 boxes of shine? After paying reportedly 10X for a license? Psssssshh.
We will be lucky to see sub $1000 shiny Fanatical garbage. Getting in the ground floor for this junk will come at a premium!
Their pricing is subject to basic market rules of supply/demand and overpricing/underselling. If they come out with $1k wax boxes with 1 auto per box out of the gate, how many people do you think will line up to buy it? Eventually they have to reduce the price until people are willing to pay it. Let them come out with 7 or 8 products in a row that are overpriced and nobody wants it. They will have to reduce the price to clear out warehouse space. The last thing they want is hundreds of pallets of sports cards they already paid for printing, packing, the autos/memorabilia inside, and it just sits there. They are not a stupid company. If anything they will start out cheap and ramp up as they become more established, same as what Panini did. |

Sad day.
I’m going to let my emotions settle before I make a statement like that. But yes I know the feeling. |
I have no idea what's going to happen, but I'll be doing this for personal nostalgic reasons. If the NBA news is also true, then I'm absolutely stashing basketball Prizm.
Just pre-ordered 2 hobby boxes of 2022 Series 1. I'm going to be buying so much flagship next year. |

That value isn't going to be cheapened. The premiere cards of yesteryear are still going to be the premiere cards. The Update Trout is still going to be the Update Trout. |
Soccer's the one sport that has a chance, IMO, because of the international appeal.
True. But soccer is also tricky because the best players are scattered across multiple leagues, which make league-specific products which contain only some of the top players a much harder sell. The only products that will generally contain all the best players are quadrennial World Cup products (which still miss some top players because their country does not qualify), and UEFA Champions League products (which also miss some top players because their teams do not qualify). |
Lets get together and bankrupt them the 1st year.
I’m already thinking of my exit strategy from this hobby now… :(
Sad day.
Considering the pandemic put a massive dent in how much I spend on the hobby, and the only things I've bought in the last 5 months or so are Star Wars and WWE Living Sets, and some epacks, I might have my exit strategy. |
You know, I was just thinking in the middle of all this:
How does the NHLPA feel right now? |
But you will buy Topps Fanatics Baseball
I would still buy: Topps Fanatics Baseball Prizm Fanatics Basketball Select Fanatics Football Topps Chrome Super Fanatics Baseball Heritage Cool Sneaker cards But if they are $1k/ box (flagship) because they spent X10 the money for this license and still did not purchase TOPPS (if they do) Imagine the cost of a purchased Topps and Teams/players license. That box is now $1200, or $300/box but printed too the moon.... We have not see Junk wax era 2.0 really that is coming in 2024 |

I hope your right buddy. I’m fine if it’s just new ownership and same brands and products. But the big fear is if that doesn’t happen it’s all just new Fanatics products and all of modern become the “Junk Chrome Era” People don’t want to keep investing in things that seem unstable. Markets of all sorts like stability. It’s part of the problem that is now happening with Topps Series 1 NFT’s as no one knows what’s going on with those and Wax etc. |
