moss, when you're right you're right.
Caitlin Instant stuff did very well. The sticker autos were originally $500 and I just moved mine for $5000. Wemby Topps Now on-card autos were $1000? I don't think any of them have gone up 10x. Kinda nuts when you think about it. Both players are very popular but Wemby has international appeal. Do a lot of ppl outside of the US care about Caitlin?
Lol not even the 1/1 Wemby Topps Now auto cards are worth 10 times the cost to just get any Topps Now Wemby /99 or less. I'd be thrilled to get my money back on them. The only Wemby Topps Now cards that have held up are the Draft Night ones. The other Wemby Topps Now autos have nosedived. In some cases way more than 50%. They cost $2,250. With tax for most a little over $2,400. I think the Rookie of the Year was $3,000 plus tax but not sure. Right now almost any Wemby Topps Now card bought from Topps not /10 or less is a loser. There was an auction on a /10 that was even a loser. I sold a /99 1,000 point game card for around $3,000 maybe a week or so after getting it. I just sold a /49 of it for $1,550 and I was lucky to get that. Some of the /49s are selling on ebay for $1,200 before fees. I still have a /5 auto and even after that sale I may not break even for the year on Wemby Topps Now autos. The difference between not taking the highest offer on all the 1000 point game cards within a few weeks of getting them and what they are worth now is probably a 60% difference. I wonder if Panini will be stupid like they were on Select WNBA. Sell almost all hobby for peanuts. Have virtually no FOTL. How for a product that popular do you sell that few FOTL boxes? Would you rather sell a few hundred boxes for $1,300-$1,500 or sell several thousand boxes for $700-$1,000? Panini's answer is the same as it's been the last 5 years. Hopefully for Prizm WNBA they are smart enough to have at least 5,000 FOTL boxes. It's been insane what has happened with Caitlin Clark. Crazy that the rookie athlete that has ended up being worth the most the last year Fanatics didn't sign. No idea if the WNBA license leaves Panini with the NBA license. If it does, Caitlin may have no licensed auto cards after her rookie year or at best 2nd year. |
Right now, it's Caitlin Clark and it's not even close. The only thing to compare buying almost anything Caitlin Clark the last 6 months to would be buying any product Panini auctioned in 2019 and 2020. No matter what it was if you bought it within several drops of the lowest price it was guaranteed to go up.
Caitlin Clark has had Panini Instant cards galore for 6 months. They just keep going up and up and up. How is Wemby Panini Instant selling? I can tell you for a fact they aren't selling. I have the only Wembanyama Instant solo logoman 1/1 card. Can't get $20k for it. Someone paid Panini with tax over $100k for 1 of countless Caitlin Clark Panini Instant 1/1 sticker autos. That same Wembanyama logoman card if there was a Caitlin Clark version it would sell for $100k. Prizm WNBA is going to be selling for the same or higher than 2023-24 Prizm hobby or Prizm Deca. Well over $1,000 a box. Without Caitlin Clark and to a lesser extent Angel Reese Prizm WNBA would be $150 a box.
Well that’s the thing, for the longest time Instant was the ONLY Caitlin RC period. The Draft Night base PSA 10 has come down to earth a bit, but revisit the convo on those once Select Hobby/Retail and especially Prizm are hitting the market. I definitely sold my Draft Night auto way too soon thinking it would go down a bit, so I’m curious to see how the ROY auto holds up once it comes in. |
How's stuff from those Panini Caitlin Clark boxes doing? Didn't get a chance to get any so didn't really follow, know they had numbered, autos and case-hits though
|
All of her autographed jerseys (pro and college) sold out in less than 5 minutes on the Panini website.
What's insane is in those few minutes they moved over $2 million in merchandise. Someone went through the numbers and added them up, just the items they gave numbers for (some items there were just 50 of, others there were 122 and some they gave no number) and just the ones /50 and /122 added up over $1 million so figure at least another million from the other items that they didn't mention numbers for. I hope Caitlin gets at least 50% of that, even though she doesn't need the money. It's funny that they are practically begging Caitlin to join Unrivaled now with a rumoured offer of between 1 and 2 million right after they got a TNT deal. I'm pretty sure she will tell them to pound sand. She doesn't need the money, it has players that actively despise her and 3 on 3 doesn't suit her style. Hell, she turned down $5 million to play just 10 games in Ice Cube's 3 on 3 league before the WNBA season. |
Been doing some research on Caitlin autos recently....seems like the vast majority of her autos are stickers? I bought a decent amount of Bowman U Best and there are 2 on-card autos of her in that set (die cut "Buckets" and "Greatness Awaits" insert autos). How many other on-card autos of her exist currently? I know she has at least a couple Bowman U Now March Madness on-card autos, but as far as pack pulled on-card autos, they seem pretty rare? |
With the price of the ROY Instant autos, those should have been on card considering she was already signing those jerseys anyway lol

1/1 autos being stickers makes me cringe. |

Bowman U Chrome Sapphire has the Sapphire Selections autographs, which is also on-card. I really like her on-card autographs, especially the Greatness Awaits ones that you mentioned. |

Even her Panini Instant cards have all been sticker autos, including 1/1s. Panini has not released a single on-card auto. Panini Instant, the Caitlin Clark Collection, Origins and Select are all stickers from what I've seen. We'll have to see on Prizm. Hopefully, they had her sign some Prizm sutff during her recent signing. |
There is an outside chance that she'll have an on-card auto in Select. Her college teammate Kate Martin has a redemption auto in Select. I assume this is because they didn't get her auto in time for the release. Kate and Caitlin have a dual auto card together in Select. I haven't seen anyone get this dual auto card yet, but it stands to reason that this dual auto card would have to be a redemption too. It's possible these redemption autos are on-card, but we'll have to wait and see. All the Ebay auctions and breaks I've watched that have been getting Caitlin autographs have all been stickers. |
Caitlin is live in Select and it’s stickers, so I guarantee they’ll eat up more stickers for the dual lol

The inscription jerseys were selling for $1000. If you go to a show and ask her to sign with an inscription, that probably costs $200-300? Pretty sure Panini wasn't paying regular show prices. Maybe they paid her $10,000 to sign for an hr? |

Panini is milking Caitlin Clark for as much as possible. Meanwhile, Nike is paying her tons of money and doing nothing with it. It’s hilarious how much money Nike is leaving on the table by actively promoting less popular WNBA players and completely ignoring their most valuable commodity. While I would buy Caitlin Clark shoes, I couldn’t care less about A’ja Wilson shoes. When did Nike get so stupid?
And yeah Panini - the sticker autos are getting old. Topps was able to get Clark on card autos, maybe you can get a few? Maybe next time you have her sign all those jerseys? You are just being lazy. |
Takes a while for sneaker development and for a signature shoe to come to fruition. You'll see her sneaker for sure by late '25/early '26. Nike had been working on A'ja's for much longer than you think and hers aren't even launching till next year.

The autograph cards cost them essentially nothing for the card. Those jerseys are not cheap. Plus Panini charged more for her Panini Instant autographs. The cheapest Rookie of the Year autos were $1250. The card cost is pennies. Those jerseys cost I don't know what but Im guessing at least $150. Probably more. Basketballs cost more and even the photos are more. For the rookie of the year autos, they should have had way more autos. Instead of only up to /99, they should have had /250, /499 and /999. |

I'm guessing the retail price for that Clark jersey was between $100-150. No way Panini was paying full retail price for those jerseys. If they didn't get some kind of bulk rate or discount for buying over 500 jerseys, they're doing something wrong. I do agree that the Instant autos were way higher margins though. Caitlin just signed a bunch of sticker sheets for them. They maybe gave her a few hundred/sheet? Wasn't there someone on here that knew how much Topps paid minor leaguers to sign? |

I agree, most likely Select will be all stickers. I guess I'm holding out hope that with the recent signings she did for the merch drop that they also had her sign some redemption cards. Knowing Panini, probably not. |

She and the people around her are smart enough to take equity in these releases. Definitely not making the "WNBA standard sticker rate". Also, those jerseys are most definitely cheap. They look like just iron on jerseys with no stitching. You can buy them on the team store website right now for $100, I assume less when there's a coupon. Panini probably getting them in bulk for under $50 |

I know there are development/supply chain bottlenecks for shoe development. But Nike still hasn’t done a good job of maximizing their deal with Clark thus far. There was a time with Nike was an innovator. Now they are the slow poke. |

If I recall correctly Nike announced a signature shoe deal for Caitlin when she signed that $28m deal in April and A'ja's signature shoe wasn't announced until mid May. I definitely remember the "controversy" that a rookie was getting a signature shoe before the best player in the WNBA and Nike caved and announced the A'ja shoe about a month later. Still, I wouldn't be surprised to see an A'ja shoe before Caitlin's, despite the fact A'ja is basically unmarketable while anything Caitlin sells out immediately. |

Even if she gets $1M (maybe even $2M), Panini is gonna make waaaay more than that on her this year. Are they only confirmed for Select and Prizm? I'm surprised they're not gonna have a higher end product this year. Or if they're allowed, maybe they'll include Caitlin on-card RPAs in NBA NT/Flawless since they won't have Wemby autos. |
