This was like hearing that Harold Miner is the GOAT.
|
I see Harden’s whining has rubbed off on the rest of the Nets. These guys legitimately believe they never commit a foul, despite being the beneficiary of lopsided officiating last night.
|
At some point, there needs to be a UN assembly to get international recognition of the fact that the word GOAT can ONLY be used for:
Jordan Gretzky Brady Period. Any subsequent additions need overwhelming global consent. We can have some other acronym for Really unbelievable and dominant in their generation for guys like Woods, Lebron, Jerry Rice, Federer or Phelps. And we can have a Veterans category for the likes of Babe Ruth and Babe Didrikson Zaharias. But GOAT only gets the three names mentioned above. |

Had front-row seats mid-court a couple seasons ago for Rockets-76ers. Harden whined to the officials, non-stop, during and after every single play. I was shocked. [as did D'Antoni but some coaches are like that] He's not a top 20 guy with his shoddy defense. Top 75 for sure. Probably top 50 when he's done. Durant does everything Harden can do except he's better at all of it, except maybe dribbling. |
I know this is a troll thread but some of the responses are truly shocking.
Taking advantage of favorable officiating = revolutionary? Top 10 in current NBA = top 20 of ALL-TIME? Write off lack of rings bc situations didn't go his way? Completely ignore the fact that he is KNOWN for his lack of defensive effort? Luka's game is sometimes compared to his, thus Harden should be getting Luka-level love and appreciation? C'mon m'ayne... |

Bingo. Or Serena. To add I’m starting to be in the camp that GOAT may need to be restricted to single participant sports. So many variables go into team sports even when you have standout players. Those variables lead to confusion amplified by excuses which is why there can never be a consensus. The cat’s out of the bag that they can boost their GOAT status by simply changing teams. Same player, different (most times better) supporting cast. We have the proof, latest being Brady |

My personal opinion is that obvious troll threads should be locked and the author suspended. Third suspension is a ban.
Ah, but they're fun, like this one is. The baby goat gif is worth it. |

Brady has 7 Super Bowl rings but he didn't win them on his own; he had great teams and staff to work with. Can the same be said for Peyton Manning (5 MVPs, 2 more than the next guys)? |

I'd have to go back and watch the Bucs-Packers NFCCG, but I seem to remember a bad officiating call that might have strongly affected the outcome. Was it a defensive PI or hold near midfield by the Bucs that wasn't called, I think? Still, I guess Brady is the presumptive GOAT.... (edit: Still, it wasn't Brady holding the Chiefs to 9 points....) |

That defense tore through the playoffs. I get QBs get the glory but defense, protections, running game, special teams, etc play more of a part than in other sports. As a Saints fan, I admit, I didn't watch past their yearly collapse lol But even his previous SB win... The Rams couldn't find the end zone either. Tip my hat to Brady still though because he takes advantage of the situations in front of him. Can't ask for anything more. |
My Chrome rookie (since no other year is #’d) hopes you are correct. Let’s do Harden!

The regular season, getting in the playoffs, winning all the playoff games just to get to the SB. Tampa Bay was a perennial loser. They had like 2 winning seasons in the last 15 years. And look how good New England was this year with Cam Newton. Worst record for Belichick since 2000. The year before Brady took over at QB. As a life long Patriots fan i enjoyed it because they never should have let Brady go. Bill deserved it. |
And i'd say it's a lot hard to win multiple rings in the NFL than pretty much every other sport because the playoffs are 1 and done. There are no series or second chances to come back from a bad game.

If I had to pick one it would be MJ, but the case for LBJ is quite strong (e.g. the measures I link to in my .sig). |
He is in the ranking for best regular season OFFENSIVE player of all time... not joking...but snoozing in the playoffs and so many years of no defense kinda disqualifies him from GOAT status considering Michael Jeffery Jordan is a human that existed in the world and has like 10 all NBA first team and 10 defensive first team appearences as well...thats kinda untouchable ... its like Bradys superbowl wins but better...\

LeBron's case isn't even as strong as Kareem's. |
He's also just not very liked thus will never be a hobby GOAT (see Karl Malone)

Go on... |
Go on...
Just off the top of my head, Kareem has more rings and more MVPs, and he didn't chase rings like LeBron has either. |

With what team and teammates did he get most of his rings, and what competition did he have in the MVP dept? How did Bron end up with more All-NBA First Team selections, and in a league with more players competing for the top awards/selections? |
Magics career is often not mentioned but his accolades are staggering as well

The irony is strong here. Kareem has a worthy case for GOAT. 2 seasons ago LeBron couldn't even get a talented team to the Playoffs and put them on the trading block. |
