If you ordered early you got in at 650/700 for a hobby case and 600/650 for a jumbo case. At 1250 a case it will be a grind to make any money. At early prices you will be able to move boxes and probably cases at buyback prices as soon as its released. Update is the same way. Early orders will do well and those buying off sites will pay higher and complain about the price, but they will buy. People crying about Bowman sapphire releasing at $149 a box and people selling for $400 a box on Ebay, but are still buying. I agree Series 2 will be a grind so why complain about it.

Steel City has HOBBY BOXES listed for $139.95! Utter insanity!
I know we aren't supposed to mention other competitors prices here, but they deserve to be called out for their greed on this one. |

I thought I remembered the opening presale price being fairly high. At least on Blowout, I don't think they were available for 600/650 a case ever. I may be wrong, but I haven't bought anything since presale Series 1 and I balked at Series 2 because of the opening price. |
There’s some early pre sales on eBay. Had Robert rookies at $3.50 per from what I saw. I’d say that’s cheap

Including his photo variation in retail sets with a slim chance at a Topps Chrome variation card. At least I hope Topps was smart enough to include him in the 5 card set. |

Presale on this was never that low. |
For those saying these prices were never at these low prices they are wrong. Orders were put in in i believe Feb/March time frame to the distributors. Price for Hobby was 700 and Jumbo was 650. This is the same price that 2020 Update was when we placed our order last month. I did not say Blowout , Dave and Adams, SteelCity had these prices available to the general public. Just like WNBA Prizm is 1130 direct from the distributors but is 1350+ presell on most major dealers sites. So please do not put out info that is false.

I would disagree with you on that.I would say the vast majority do buy from distributors. Seems like most only complain when they can't get product or their allocations get cut. Just look at the Bowman Sapphire thread and all those Montgomery 528 club members who got shut out today. All crying about bots, Topps, the website. There just mad because they could not get boxes for 149 and put them on ebay for 400 before anyone else. Same with series 2. Everybody is saying this product sucks before it is even released on friday. May be true, and may be a nice set and cool sub sets. The biggest ones crying about it are the ones who can't flip it for 200% mark up. It may well be like Bowman baseball which has steadly dropped after release. Run up to release 36/3800 for hobby cases. Now you can get boxes damn near 230 a box or 2400 a case. |

How does one buy direct from a distributor? Do you need to have a business or can a regular collector buy from them?

Well after seeing the checklist the prices for boxes should be falling pretty quickly

Not even remotely true. We're just collectors, not dealers. To say this is to think we all have a hookup. The closest most us get to that is our LCS. It's be another thing completely if we just missed it because of timing. And again. Not even close to all of us are looking to flip -- I'd guess at least 69% are looking to rip or hold. Unless they really pump the SPs in a way we haven't seen, this product is....not great at best. There's base Robert, then....who's the second best RC. Akiyama? Graterol? They missed Tsutsugo, unless I missed it, who would be a contender. |

You have to get a business license then apply for an account with a master distributor. Good luck getting any product though as a new account. Everything is cut throat right now. |

I'm actually dealing with this process right now with a distributor. It's confusing as to exactly which documents you need (depends on what your state offers if you are a certified business, some have business licenses, some don't, etc), plus there is getting an account established, THEN it's hoping to actually get product if you're lucky enough to get in. It's an unfortunate time to be doing all of this, and may ruin my business, but.......if you're not in, you're out. What a world. |

I've been signed up with a distributor for about a year. I still buy 90% of my stuff from online retailers. To get anything more than a box or two (if you're lucky) of any kind of Topps product from a distributor, you need to be buying tons of Panini or garbage stuff like Leaf, Superbreak, Tristar, etc. I've actually been thinking for a while that someone like Jabs Family is really set up to do well with getting distributor allocation. They seem to be able to get rid of 6-8 cases of total trash (e.g., Panini Prizm Baseball, Select Baseball, etc.) for EVERY. SINGLE. RELEASE. That's really hard to do, even for a breaker because breakers have to sell hot products or they won't sell out. Jabs has like 40,000 followers that will buy out whatever he breaks -- could be 1991 fleer case and he'd sell it out. If you have a way to sell trash products and lots of it, you will be very well liked by distributors. If you don't, you're out of luck. |

This is the biggest garbage post I've seen on these boards in sometime. Nothing can take the silver packs rant though. But no, for 99% of the collecting world, the cheapest presale price was $1,000 for a hobby or jumbo case of series 2 which was ridiculous. Series 2 never really has any meat on it, last year was a fluke. 2018 had nothing aside from incredibly rare SP's of Acuna and Torres. You could have bought 2018 Series 2 cases in 2019 for less than what 2020 Series 2 cases are right now. We aren't looking for a quick flip on cases, we want to buy and open product at a marginal rate. To be honest, there's too many people holding wax and stock piling it, but to each their own. I was hoping last year to open a case of Update, but never did because I didn't feel comfortable paying what they were going for. |

If you are going to immediately rip and sell the pieces quickly you might do ok. I don't see a whole lot of value though. If Luis Robert doesn't come out on fire, this stuff is going to plummet at a very high rate of speed. |
Absolutely hilarious that some of the new "investors" have already been clearing out Targets of this to try to flip quick. No chance anyone buys this for more than MSRP.
Robert is nice, but this is a truly horrendous checklist. Hope some of these people get screwed over on this and it scares them away for future releases. |

Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
I could make the argument that 2019 S1 is better. Has an all-star in McNeil and a potential star in Tucker. Also a guy like Kopech who could be an ace and a few other decent players like Brandon Lowe. Print run in that is probably bigger though but this needs Robert to be an MVP candidate in order to not be a complete dumpster fire. Edit: just read that you wrote "which can be debated", sorry missed that part. :) |
Wow, there are SP's of Ravelo, Burke, Harvey. Junior Fernandez, Daza, Fraley and Danny Mendick to name a few. Those are some of the 'hits'
|
2017 s2 was pretty barren. I’d take the 16 update over that any day.
Absolutely hilarious that some of the new "investors" have already been clearing out Targets of this to try to flip quick. No chance anyone buys this for more than MSRP.
Maybe they’re planning to hold it for 5-10 years, before flipping it. [emoji23] |
Best card in the set is absolutely this Andrew McCutchen SP

Pimp!! Is that a real card? I am in. Best card since Dick Allen smoking in the dugout. |
Boxes up at Topps $70. Still seems high.

Is it bad I don't know who any of these names are? |

Things are interesting with my first case. Getting multiples of cards in each box. Definitely not normal for flagship.
3 boxes in 4 Luis Robert RC’s Clemente SSP Gerrit cole clear |
junkies and breakers
Or maybe collectors who have no other method to get cheaper product and have enough disposable income that a $80 box and a $110 box mean no difference to them. I don't see breakers buying and breaking this at $110 anywhere, please point me to where this is happening. |

Whew, I thought maybe it was just me. |
I'm going to do what I always do with each flagship release. Go buy a jumbo box from my LCS and support them. Open my box and put together a complete base set and enjoy myself tonight.
I figured I'd be spending as much or more if I tried to put together the set buying retail. At least with jumbo I get two hits and a chance of some stuff that isn't in retail and I've always been able to make a set with just one jumbo box. |

I'll see your 2016 Update, and raise you with 2017 Series 2. |

Roberts getting $20 on ebay lol... People marking the SP as SSP getting over $200... those returns will be swift

Robert is nice, but this is a truly horrendous checklist. Hope some of these people get screwed over on this and it scares them away for future releases.
It's good enough for 'em. Actually, it's too good but..... |

I even saw marked as "SSP SP Rare." I gotta get me one of them. |
