Wondering do the surface of these have some kind of rough finish? Kinda looks like it from the picture. Also love the black infared 6 he's rocking, maybe my favourite Jordans of all time. |

Also love the black infared 6 he's rocking, maybe my favourite Jordans of all time.
The card stock itself is something similar to canvaskin, which is a textured paper intended to replicate cotton canvas for painting purposes, see here: https://www.beepaper.com/products/canvaskin-paper/ Canvaskin is often used for watercolor type painting. Think of this card stock like a super thin and flat (non-glossy) stock like is used in recent Impeccable products. I also enjoyed chasing those two sets and their die-cut parallels from SP Championship (Playoff Heroes and Future Playoff Heroes) back in the day when I opened a lot of wax. Definitely strikes a nice nostalgia chord there, and the Jordan card is a nice one. Today's share is a very cool, unusual and interesting piece. It would have been from the 1994-95 Topps Embossed, except that it was never actually produced for inclusion in the set. I have no idea how rare exactly these are, nor how many other players out there might have similar non-production "experiments", but I like it: 1994-95 Embossed Promos Error David Robinson No. 123 by peaceful_garden, on Flickr The veterans in the set (non-rookies), looked like this: and their gold parallels looked like this: while the base rookie cards looked like this: 1994-95 Topps Embossed - [Base] #102 - Jason Kidd Courtesy of COMC.com and their gold parallels looked like this: 1994-95 Topps Embossed - [Base] - Golden Idol #102 - Jason Kidd Courtesy of COMC.com Therefore, this gold foil Robinson card appears to have been an experiment (that never made it to production) on the similarly designed rookie gold parallel layout. Also noteworthy is that the back looks just like the back of Charles Barkley's base card (rendering it not only non-production, but error status?) and can be seen here: |
Thanks for the wealth of knowledge Steve, might need to pick one up. There just wasn't as many Jordan inserts pre 1996 which I like.
Also where do you find all these Robinson oddities? |

Also where do you find all these Robinson oddities?
Value/rarity wise and as most everyone knows, there was definitely a lack of super short printed cards (Jordan along with everyone else), not to mention the complete non-existence of serial numbered cards before 1996. That being said, there are still many glorious looking cards, which probably aren't going to make investor-types rich per se, but move the desirability needle enough in my opinion to warrant "must-have" status based upon any mix of: good photography/etched foil/holofoil/general creative design/etc. Can you imagine how googly eyed people would be, if the 1994-95 Emotion N-Tense insert was /100? How about the 1995-96 Skybox Premium Larger Than Life insert at /100? If Jordan had been included in the 1995-96 E-XL Cut Above set AND those had been a little bit harder to pull, that whole set would be a rave. I could go on and on here... but those SP Championship Playoff Heroes Cards are pretty cool. You must not yet have the Shaq from the "Future Playoff Heroes" set? That's a must have for sure! :)! Regarding where I find Robinson oddities, please forgive me for being so vague - but almost everywhere! Many of them show up eventually on eBay, but some things are also uncovered networking through friends, IG, even messaging eBay sellers to ask more questions about things they're selling or might know more about, etc. |
yeah, that 95/96 gold foil skybox larger than life is a killer insert...........foil back too. I'll never forget pulling MJ from my card shop

yep. I pulled two HUGE MJs as a kid that had me beyond psyched: 94-95 Emotion Ntense and 95-96 Topps Mystery Finest refractor. Still have the refractor :)! |
Today's share will be the longest tenured, serial numbered Admiral in my collection, as I bought this card from the bid board at my LCS during summer of 1997 I think. Back then, I wasn't grabbing every DRob card I could find (was still focused on building sets), but this one was a must have:
Reading back my last comment may have been misleading, what I meant to say was I actually like the fact there aren't as many valuable inserts pre 1996-97 for my own collecting sanity ha. The 1995-96 flair hot numbers and SP all stars gold are probably my favourites. That is crazy to think how valuable the N-tense /100 would be  96 Legacies are always a work of art as well :)! |
^^Thanks Rob, I did indeed misunderstand your intent, but I'm good at misunderstanding people sometimes. :o The lenticular 95-96 Hot Numbers are very cool cards indeed, as are the more elegant SP Gold Die Cut All Stars.
Today's share is on the theme of NBA-related card games, which incidentally may or may not (as is the case with this particular share) have actually been put into official production. I'm following this theme since I decided to share a game card in the 00s thread, so figured why not share another one (albeit a test/prototype) from the 90s? Apologies if I've already shared this one, as I'm not remembering having done so. :o I've never played an NBA-related card game, but do know that a few have at least been attempted, if not produced and accepted/appreciated by the public. I'd love to hear from anybody that has any experience playing any of these games. Were they fun at all, even if a little bit gimmicky or unrealistic? Hearing about some experiences from such card games could really rev up the nostalgia meter for me, so please... share some stories, even if they're via PM (if you don't want to derail this thread too much). :)! Today's share, from a set that never made it into production. I don't know if this would have been included in the regular Jam Session product, or would have been a standalone product/game on its own. Maybe somebody has some production notes on this like the ones being shared in that other awesome thread right now: https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1289270) 1995 Jam Session Game Test Samples No. P12 by peaceful_garden, on Flickr |

My favorite Platinum Medallion set (1998). Looking to add more stars/HOFers and Chicago Bulls players. If you have any available for sale/trade let me know.
