We need to do this, and we can't play the breakers card anymore on topps flagship, or Score for that matter. No breaker is opening freaking Topps Series 2. The mountain of cards to go through? Lol.
I don't see any way possible you could come close to having fun at this cost.
I totally agree. Granted, in my 30+ years of collecting, I have never gotten into a break. I find it amazing that people are actually buying flagship/score at these current prices. I'd assume more newer "collectors" are the ones paying these prices? I just do not see any rational "veteran collector" paying these prices for hobby boxes. When I get the itch to open any flagship, it's a couple blaster boxes for a little fun. I did manage to open a couple boxes of series 1 hobby at $65 a box months ago. I have no problem paying that price range for hobby flagship. Though, with Score, I would not even buy a blaster box of that product. I never saw any value or fun even opening that product. Heck, the rookies are in college uniforms, which to me has zero value. I feel most of us here know not to even touch this product at the current prices. |
dude, 2020 Score Football Hobby is ~$250
SCORE. FOOTBALL. incase i didnt type that clearly... SCORE FOOTBALL  and blasters are pre-selling on ebay at $33 BLASTERS!
This is a new level of stupid. My jaw literally dropped when I saw how much 2020 Score was. Un-effin-believable. |
FYI, Walmart is still accepting preorders for 2020 Series 2 hangers. The Walmart relic boxes are out of stock for preorders.
I don't think this is good business. They are just maximizing short term profit at the expense of long term stability and profit. I kind of hope it kills the distributor/Topps relationship.
I’m thinking Topps and Panini view online breaking as the future of the hobby. For a long time I didn’t understand why they were fine with killing hobby shops, but I think they don’t really care about them anymore. All about online breaking. |
Breakers aren't breaking Series 2, they'll likely do a few cases on release day but Series 2 is a nightmare for breakers. Most of the breakers that even did Series 1 after release day did so because of the costs of everything else.
I’d say it’s a distinct possibility considering the Ronnie and Vlad precedent.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There is really no way to tell what Topps might do with Series 2. They're not stupid. No baseball means they need to be creative. How about, for example, they make rookie cards of guys like Dylan Carlson? They've busted the precedent of having to play a game in the bigs to have a card with Luis Robert. What is to stop them from going all out on those guys? How about they included some big autos to justify the price? I think we will all be surprised. We;ll see I guess. |
A part of me wishes they would lower the print run for series 2. With really only one player to “chase”, perhaps in two or three decades, you could have another mantle card situation. :D

First Buzz: 2020 Topps Series 2 baseball cards
FYI, Walmart is still accepting preorders for 2020 Series 2 hangers. The Walmart relic boxes are out of stock for preorders.
I’m trying to add a few to cart to satisfy my itch to rip a few packs but Walmart won’t let me check out. Maybe I missed it? EDIT: had to give Walmart a call but got the order placed. I can’t imagine Series 2 selling out in store with all the uncertainty about Rookies + the season up in the air, but literally every single product (besides hockey lol) is selling out in store. Better safe than sorry :) |

I’m thinking Luis Robert’s contract brought him into the MLBPA. Not sure how it all works, but he was allowed in products because of that extension. |

They may not be breaking it but they are buying large quantities of flagship to help Build up their allocations on the harder to get products. Up to 2 years ago these were the cases you could buy near cost on eBay as the breakers were trying to unload them as quick as possible. Now they have realized that they don’t have to give these away and are helping to set the high case prices. |
Definitely not the case
Peach State and GTS have ya'll brainwashed. Breakers buy most all of their product from shops.

Interesting point. If that's true, maybe they will add Evan White for S2? |
Anyone hear of any 'cuts' for Series 2? I know flagship cuts are a rarity, but never know in the crazy world we are in right now...
|
Imagine if Robert is an SP with no parallels. Might be the worst Flagship value rip ever.

I’d say it’s a distinct possibility considering the Ronnie and Vlad precedent.
The precedent is Eloy, Alonso, and Tatis. Each was on the opening day roster. Each had a numbered card in 2019 S2 with parallels. Vlad & Acuna were called up after they could no longer accrue a full year of service time. Shoved into S2 as SPs without parallels. Luis Robert signed an extension in January. He should be a "regular" inclusion in the set with parallels. I'll look for S2 Walgreens hangers if they have yellow parallels...but I can't imagine buying much S2 unless Topps surprises us. |
Robert would be an obvious choice for a regular rookie in '20 S2 w/ parallels. Topps is going to release S2 wether theres a season or not. And Robert would have been in S2 regardless imo. Ideally (for both Topps & Hobbyist)...Robert would then have an SP in Update. Topps missed a big opportunity (imo), by not putting an SP of Tatis, Eloy & Alonso in '19 Update.

I wish I could short sell this at current prices like I can with a stock. This one's going to be terrible.

The fact that Evan White hasn’t been in any other products makes me think his contract didn’t put him in the MLBPA.. but I don’t know. White signed his in November and Luis Robert wasn’t until January, so you would think he would’ve been in opening day before Robert, except Robert is the much bigger name. |

The buyers will learn the hard way. A fool and his money are soon parted. |
Lots of debate about S2...wonder what Topps plans for Update.

Update could be incredible or horrendous depending on rosters once games start up. I think different teams will take different approaches with their star minor leaguers who are close to ready. Will be fun to watch. But Series 2 is a lost cause at this point minus Luis Robert. |

I was cut in half on Monday. I am set to receive exactly half of what I received for S1 and all 3 flagship sets last year. |

True. What if they dont start up? Or, what if its only 48 games, do teams bother calling up fringe opening day talent? |
There should be cut backs in future releases if there is no season.
I mean, what good is Update or Heritage High without any rookies? |
There should be cut backs in future releases if there is no season.
I mean, what good is Update or Heritage High without any rookies?
My thoughts as well. Updates would seem pointless in a 48 game season. |

Right. There’s a small number of breakers that open S1 (even one or two doing player breaks very quickly after release) but then it rapidly thins out. And even that is eBay and FB breakers rather than the big names. |
