Yes, and to be fair it's to your credit that you didn't go that route.
If I were to make a prediction at this point, I would say that AJ is going to get zero dollars from PSA. They'll either recertify the card or go tell him to pound sand....in which case he'll be left with only one option: returning it to the person who sold it to him. Maybe he should have done that right away because I don't get what he's doing now.

"The graders stand behind the grade."
Could be.
If not, I'd be shocked if they give him a huge windfall for sitting on the card for months after rejecting a return.

Yup, and they shouldn’t. What stopping a trimmer from doing the same? And then they are supposed to reward them?

Nope

Not according to AJ...

p.s. I don't think PSA needs you to stick up for them. We're working it out just fine.

"I promised to provide an update and just heard back from PSA today.

I sent the card via prepaid fedex to Jackie who informed me that she gave the card blind to their head grader (no knowledge of the evidence provided in the blowout link). The grader measured the card and looked for evidence of trim or alteration and found none. Jackie then gave the grader the link to the evidence which she said was reviewed by the grader. Upon 2nd inspection by the same grader, Jackie informs me that they still didn't find evidence of alteration or trimming and are standing by the 4.5 grade. They validated the cert # and took scans for their records. As is PSA practice, Jackie tells me they don't give written acknowledgment of the review but she says my account will reflect the review (which I have provided here).

I have no plans to sell the card in the immediate future, but the question I think now is that I'll need to include the "story" of the card to whomever might someday purchase and let them decide."

When confronted with 100% confirmed visual proof, their own expert says nope.

It's no wonder so many altered cards are blessed by these "professional experts". PSA is a disgustingly corrupt business - there is no other reasonable explanation. Simple incompetence is no longer an option.

It's open season to flood PSA with altered cards. They are all good now.

What an embarrassing clown show.

Quite the change of mind there.
Plus some nice phrasing - “whomever might someday purchase” versus “to whom I might sell the card”.

What an embarrassing clown show.
There's really a simple and easily overlooked explanation here: PSA's words have become so powerful that they now transcend even the molecular bonds present in cardboard. Amazing? Not really. It's merely a supernatural consequence of the unearned, fanatical trust collectors have bestowed upon PSA.

Calm down, it's not like there are PGA pro's paying premiums so they can slice raw cards up to a PSA 10 profit these days ;)

As I posted elsewhere, meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

auburn35 04-02-2021 10:02 AM

If this fraudulent "review" wasn't the standard PSA procedure, I would have thought this update was an April Fools joke.

pspa123 04-02-2021 10:56 AM

I wonder if this will further encourage auction houses to ignore BODA findings.

Yeah, doesn't look like Nat Turner has changed anything in regards to their ignoring the trimming problem. That grader had to be able to see it if he really reviewed the evidence in this thread, or he's legally blind.

I haven't had PSA grade a card since the summer of 2019. I let my membership lapse. Everything I have seen since has told me that was the correct decision. No one should be doing business with them, yet they are getting record numbers of submissions. What is wrong with people? Are you all that greedy?

If I were Brian, looking at the unbelievable prices and submission levels in the face of all the evidence of altered cards, I might well be thinking, a plague on both your houses, you're getting what you deserve, I have better things to do than save the hobby from itself.

No insight into what he's thinking or doing of course.

PS it's funny when I spoke to Brian years ago he floated the notion that maybe in general the hobby didn't care as much about trimming as I said it did. As much as it pains me to admit it, he was right.

With this episode, we have truly hit bottom IMO. PSA just gave a big middle finger to us.

Do the right thing or save 20k? Easy choice I guess.

00000001 trimmed (graded NM-MT 8) and god knows how many more with PSA numerical grades...
