2019 Topps NOW
 

I wonder if it's because we are all just busy or if there is an underlying reason that the 2019 thread is just now posted. We were so excited about the start of the 2018 thread it was up and running 11 days before the new year!

Unreal that this is already the FOURTH year of NOW. As we start ramping up for the new season and some pretty big names are still looking for a home, we know the carboard archives are not too far from hitting the presses.

We have not heard much from Jeeves and the crew for a bit, and it seems the threads have slowed down a bit on BO. Did anyone get a Christmas card with a discount card?

As I look for storage space for the collection including 2019 acquisitions, I see a number of items that will make it onto the market when I have time to do something other than work. Some items I may have waited too long, as happens in the hobby all the time. Que será, será.

As far as the new year, can't wait for July and to have the ASG with Tribe HTA. Guess that's fittingly Home Tribe Advantage for we friends of the feather. Not sure what will be in store for events and promos, just hope for memorable experiences and a chance to meet more members of the forum, BO and the facebook page.

Dang... can't believe it has been 4 years.

Not sure how active I'll be in Now this year. If anything, I've tried to narrow my focus on cards and cutback on non-PC...think I might be selling old more than buying new.

Let's see what the changes are!

I’ll be cutting way back as well. Probably sticking to mostly autos and relics this year and not as many base cards.

I'm gonna stop buying the auto cards blindly through platinum members not even knowing how much the card will cost.

I will now search for whatever card on eBay 6 months after the card goes live. That's where you see the true value of the card.

I’m sure the design will be different then The Soccer Cards...my hope is for at least bigger numbers on the back!
As for autographs, I feel the same way...it does seem cheaper to just get them later on, but i’ll Take it one autograph at a time...some I don’t mind paying a little premium for. Still looking at running my buyers club for all Baseball buyers as well as team buyers but have just a few committed so if I don’t get more i’ll Just collect for myself. Love the set but don’t have the desire to flip for pennies...others can do that and if it means I fall out of the Platinum club so be it. I’m excited for the new website...any thoughts on what it should have?

Saw that...going to be rocky at first I bet. Lets try and hold our criticizers or at least put them on stun :D

We know they read these and from past experience message boards are just a place where people put you down for doing the best job you can. No one goes into work going "I'm going to do a sh1tty job today" so I think we as a community should try and be more positive. Criticize but constructively...I know if I had to read (and they do have too...it's part of the job) the constant barrage of how bad I suck at my job every day, I'd be "Screw these a$$holes".

Now hopefully everyone got their Living buy in! :eek:

They are not going to let me buy the Topps Living from last week!

Living PRs were going to be low this week anyway but that's a very good point. A lot of people who would have made their buy this morning before work might miss out. It would be nice if they extend this week a day.

As always my main complaint is quality control. Figure that part out and I'm happy. These past 3 months have been a disaster. Some criticism should be expected for that. I think that's fair. Other than that massive headache, I enjoy this. I'm up 2-3 AM every day working on cards.

Your going to pay more to get what you want signed and in tiers for additional things like inscription, in this case lower numbered autographs. These autos still mean more to me than a random pack pulled auto that's for sure.

I would love to see the ability to set up recurring weekly buys instead of having to manually do it every week. For example, I want to buy 1 bundle of TLS and 2 of Star Wars, then I should be able to just set that up and let it go until the set ends or I stop it.

Got my free shipping worked out...just told them about the mess up on the archive number and the PR numbering. In stead of 1,2,3,4 it goes 1,10,100,101,102...both PR and numbers, once that is worked out...wow. You can also share the cards via facebook, twitter etc even after they are sold out....so if you need one you can just share the photo/link to the site. All great stuff so far

Ugh...that sales tax is going to hurt on the big auto/relic purchases.

It already hurts. I had completely forgotten about it. It's going to make things interesting this year.

Change is always uncomfortable at first.

I don't like it either at the moment, but like you, I'm willing to give it a chance and hopefully discover the benefits of the new site as they present themselves.

I don’t get this view. Why should they? It’s a consumer tax, not a producer tax. It’s not charged to them, it’s charged to you. ie they’re not charging some national tax - or a Pennsylvania tax - to everyone. They’re collecting an Ohio tax that your state says you need to pay.

i have orders processing that are no longer listed as paid or processing, in fact I have the rookie auto Ohtani/Accuna autograph paid, but not listed as such on my dashboard as well.

1. Ohio doesnt require out of state vendors to collect tax. They are choosing to increase prices for me.

2. I dropped the $39.99 mat card into my cart to run a test. THIS SHOULD BE A DIFFERENT AMOUNT BASED ON YOUR STATE. For me it is charging $2.70 in tax. That is the 6.75% for State and Local sales tax based on by billing zip code. On a $399.99 auto that would be another $27.00. Also if you live in a state with no sales tax(DE, NH, AK,OR, MT) then its a big advantage.

For Joejoe since I know his hometown the listed state and local sales tax rate is 8.25%.

so if he drops that mat card into his card it should be showing $3.30 in tax. So on that hypothetical $399.99 autograph cards that I pay an extra $27.00 he is going to pay $33.00

If you live in a state that has sales tax, whether Topps charges you or not, you are supposed to pay sales tax based on your zip code.

If Topps doesn’t charge you, you are supposed to self-report and pay your state yourself. At least, that is how I understand it.

what does it say for you when you drop the mat card in the cart for tax?

The whole tax thing isn't affecting all states yet. eBay a message about these going to effect for like 8 states. Supposedly. I'll have to check for myself.

People should be very careful trying to intentionally circumvent the law.

Truth be told, they shouldn’t try.

IMO this is a major headwind. Going from a cost for me of $4.00 on the 20 bundle to $4.27 per card might not seem like much...$5.40 total on the bundle but it is significant on the bigger autos and auto/relics.

The only thing new here is that Topps is collecting and paying the sales tax for you now that you should have been paying all along. Unless you are tax exempt, of course.

I’m assuming costs for you “shouldn’t” have changed at all. I could be wrong.

Furthermore, 6.75% sales tax isn’t that bad. I know...any sales tax sucks, but depending where you live, it could be a lot higher.

It's not the billing address,
Its the shipping address that is used for sales tax

This is an interesting development and maybe there are still bugs to work out. Many people purchase these - especially the larger bundles - to resell. In that case, they should not have to pay sales tax through Topps much like someone who buys unopened cases directly from Topps to resell. Now if I buy a bundle to resell on ebay, I would pay tax to Topps then ebay would charge the sales tax to the buyer in one of those affected states as well, thus charging sales tax twice on the same item.

I've a buddy who owns a store tried that argument with Topps to no avail...it is an issue that is for sure.

News: Topps has launched their new website. Not all I hoped for but it is something better and shows that Topps is putting in a lot of time, effort and resources to their on-line product. Topps put out the Time Line poster for 2018 (not for sale) so that means we've most likely seen the last cards in the 2018 design. I'm excited for the new year but am not sure how deep I am going to be diving in this year. I've only one all buyer committed so far and that doesn't bode well for me being able to continue. As we get closer to the beginning of the season I will let everyone know in advance so other arrangements can be made. Buying all is a huge and costly commitment but well worth it (in my opinion).

Value: I've had many say to me there is no value in these cards because they do not sell at auction...they don't sell at auction because their are not 100K collectors of the set (yet) and if you sell at auction you are just hoping that the 1000 or so collectors of these cards are looking for that particular card during that week. Do not sell your cards at auction, find the lowest priced card on eBay and then list your card when the right buyer comes along if will sell. Might take months or even years but never sell for a loss and the way to lose is via auction. Also the main value in these are how they connect you to the game, wondering what event will be worthy and what photo they will have.

Autographs: The value almost always drops on these, if you can wait...wait and pick it up later on. Some autographs like the 2016 Bryzzo Card are the exception. I will do my utmost to get you the autographs you want from Topps for a 10% fee using my Platinum Reservation.

Shipments: As you can see from the amount of grayed boxes most cards have shipped (Tracking is added as a note, except for Canada, you guys get a text with a photo of the customs form). To request shipping (anyone that has cards in the green that are in-hand) just e-mail [email]joejoemay@yahoo.com[/email] with your address and I will get the cards out to you the next business day. I don't like to ship just one or two $5 cards as it goes in a Plain White Envelope and that leaves me vulnerable and the possibility of card damage. Three is break even for me with $2.66 shipping so anything above that is preferred. NOTE: Living I like to wait and send two weeks of cards just to save some shipping money, this is why I will let Living buyers float up to $30 in the red.

Orders: All orders must be e-mailed to [email]joejoemay@yahoo.com[/email] and followed with payment or you risk not getting the card. If you are an All Buyer, All of one team buyer as long as it is specified on the spreadsheet you do not have to do this. The random buyers must do this as I may not buy every card in enough quantity to cover you. Likewise orders of "Other Sets" like Throwback Thursday must be followed with an e-mail and payment.

Past Issue Cards: If I have them listed on the spreadsheet they are normally for sale (unless they say 0 or out of stock), feel free to make offers on these as my prices are simply just lower then asks on eBay. I do have one of every Now card issued (so far), so if you don't see it ask and if I only have one I will do my best to find someone willing to sell theirs.

Spreadsheet: It's pretty much self explanatory if you are in the Red you owe me, in the Green is where everyone needs to be. Cards not Grayed out I owe you...cards in the green and in hand can ship when requested. (see shipments)

Now: Prices are rising on many of the Red Sox post season cards as fans scramble to buy these...also look back at the Red Sox cards from 2018 that are short printed (below 266), these are the cards that will dry up first (many have already). Not sure it will rival the 2016 Cubs cards but some are already in the Jon Lackey, Addison Russell level on prices. Making money on Now is easy if you know who is going to win the world series...since we don't you can still make a killing on some Red Sox cards from 2018. Best buy I think is the post season set OS-30 Diamondbacks card (no I am not selling mine). With only 102 printed, this card is a steal at $30.

Throwback Thursday: These are really taking off as people who are tired of Living seem to be migrating to the older and relatively cheap TBT. They also appeal to the Archives collectors....Some are horrible in my opinion (mostly the Non-Sports) but some are absolutely amazing and with print runs a fraction of Living I think getting some of the key rookies should be on your to do list.
Some to look out for Ronald Acuna Jr.'s 1973 Playoff baseball design, while not the best design or photo the 477 print run is hard to over look when/if he ever becomes a huge star. Same can be said for the 95 Throwback of Walker Buehler. The ones people really clamor for are the older classics like the 1964 Design and the last two sets of 2018...these are climbing fast and I would get those while you can, especially the SP Ohtani #250, with only 842 copies this will be one of his most sought after rookies in the future.

Living: No big movements in Living...still a massive sell off of PSA 10's going on. Get those is my suggestion, I've made some good buys at auction (below grading fees)...it's a beautiful set, fun to collect but now that the hype has died down the print runs are coming down. This is a sign that the first 100 or so of these cards were way over bought and where I don't want to see the set crash, we will see lower print runs in the future....down into the high Now levels of a few thousand. I hate to talk down my most popular seller but I would say if you stay the course, this is still a great fun and beautiful set to collect.

MOY and Advent: I've not had time to update these (lots of irons in the fire with the website, Facebook and my video blog)...they will be updated next week, so enjoy the cheap prices while you can!

At this rate of website errors (showing orders of other people, TBT page not showing the current week set etc), I'm pretty sure that there will be another security breach when making payments with credit card.

I wonder if they outsource all these website stuff to some professional outside, or have someone internally doing all the job.
