2022 Topps Chrome Update Sapphire--Could Be the Product of the Year? Pump it Up!
 

Looks like 2022 TCU Sapphire releases on January 11. The checklist is below. Short auto checklist but could mean the autos will be difficult hits. Looking forward to seeing everyone's box breaks:

I hate redemptions but it would deter hoarding. The box sitting is getting ridiculous.

330 cards on the checklist, 2 of them are JRod. 32 cards in a box.

If autos are 1 per box, maybe it's worthwhile given the small auto checklist. If they aren't guaranteed 1 per box...... woof.

Im not sure its "box sitting". Its "people aren't buying it at all".

Also, remember that the past two years, Target has had these on sale online (and a few in store). So watch the Target's website for release on Wednesday morning. At least there is a 5% discount with the red card.

I think people with lots of free cash/credit still bought TCS, though fewer and solely for wax reselling.

This is a Target Exclusive or will Topps be putting these up on their site? And what's the price point? 32 cards per box? Seems like a small amount of cards for a 330 card checklist. Hopefully 29.95 a box? Doubtful.

Will be on Topps site for sure. Not sure about Target though for reasons noted above. But it will not be $29.95. Last year the price was $150 but I am going t say it will be more than that this year if autos are 1 per box.

It's sapphire so even if watered down and no auto per box expect a min $200 price tag based on other recent sapphire products.

I know 2022 Topps Chrome Update Sapphire Baseball wont be out until January..


Currently Wander Franco Rookie cards will be in this product and we could possibly see BOBBY WITT JR / JULIO RODRIGUEZ / RILEY GREENE / ADLEY RUTSCHMAN and a few others if they get called up soon.
at $250 / box doesnt it sound to good to be true?

Francos Base Rookie will probably sell for $50-$75 while Witt-Jrod could be in the $25-50 range.

By this time PSA should have a $35-50 grading level


Any thoughts on the potential of this product as well as the current price?

I think it could be one of the hottest products if not the hottest of these past years.

DAMN!! At $200 a piece for 32 cards and a 330 card set?!? Gonna be crazy expensive to complete a set or get lucky to find the top rookies.

It was the opposite it dropped on target before topps had it up. And it shipped before topps did so people had their boxes in hand before topps even shipped

Gotcha. I guess I had it backwards.

The quality control might just be like regular update chrome. Low auto checklist which makes them very hard to pull. I'd say 1 per 15-20 boxes.

I'm guessing sticker autos, which may increase the print run, but agreed there's not going to be one per box.

If the autos are stickers, does that give the edge to TC proper autos for Julio even with the minor league jersey? What would be the go-to on card auto? HHN, Chrome, or something else?

So, there are gonna be 3 different JRod Chrome Sapphires in total?

Horizontal w missing colors (TC)
Sticker w funky image (TCU)
Probably sticker(TCUS)

These bits above make HHN a lot more attractive to me at least

I love this comment. It should be pinned at the top of every pre-release thread. But I also love the sarcasm.

Price will probably be the same or higher than last year with 1 in 40 boxes with an autograph instead of every box. Last years selling for around 60% of MSRP and under $100 a box. Yes product of the year for sure.

Looks like no dibs for MC members. Just got the email advertising public sale tomorrow.

But maybe the price will not be $300 or higher. Let's hope for $200.

Sadly, Topps has been stuck on $300 for regular Hobby TC releases recently (SW, F1, MLB), so i cant see why they would price Sapphire cheaper than $250

What's everyones guess on how long the odds are for autos? 1:10 boxes?

Topps used “rare” to describe auto chances for Topps minis this year and odds were 1:32 boxes. With the short auto list I think it will be much higher odds than 1 per 10 boxes but hope to be wrong.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why this product even exists....it's basically a color parallel turned into it's own set.

Yeah, only 14 guys on the checklist. Even if they add new parallels I can’t see a small enough overall PR to have them land every 10 boxes. Maybe every 25 but more likely 40?

At $200 there would be people who bot to get a bunch of orders in, but it wouldn’t be mass botted to the point manual can’t place orders.

At $150 i’d expect it to sell out within 20-30 min max, maybe a lot faster.

At $200 I’d expect it to sell out within the day.

$250 or higher it takes a few days.

that does make sense

2020 Target had boxes listed before Topps the same day.
2021 Topps had boxes listed and then Target dropped boxes. Target boxes were received by many before the Topps boxes were received. I remember not buying on Topps hoping for a Target drop and the 5% and free shipping and it worked out.

Because they are shiny and colorful and look good in photos.

That's what the ultra-modern era is all about.

On a more substantive level, they are the best looking Topps Chrome base cards made -- cracked ice refractor with thick card stock. They are essentially an ultra premium version of TC.

But yes, they are clearly gimmicky and tailored made for hype boys.
