🏈Official 2024 Offseason Thread🏈

It is now the offseason for 18 teams. So many questions…

Where does Captain Kirk go?
Russ?
Does Fields get traded?
Which coaches get fired?
Does Jim Harbaugh come back to the NFL?

Go for three in a row!

It won't happen, but I'd love to see Zac Taylor aka Marvin Lewis 2.0 go. Ideally, it would be him and JB getting shown the door

The owner was also supportive of Ridder. But last I checked, the Falcons lost games that Ridder didn't play in. And whatever QB played, why did Smith not run his RBs down people's throats?

Falcons pick 8th which seems standard for them. I assume they do something dumb and draft a wr. But really they probably try and move up and take a qb. Really hope they do something right in the draft. They need to stop drafting rb/te/wr and focus on what wins games. The trenches.

They didn't waste time LOL

Black Monday begins right at midnight. They didn't think it over... make an announcement in the morning... nope... midnight we start Black Monday!

How many more will happen on Monday?

Too early for Belichick? Will that take a day or 2?

Ron Rivera is likely gone

Will Chris Tabor be replaced in Carolina?

I think Antonio Pierce deserves a shot in Las Vegas

Gotta think Chargers move on from Giff Smith

Does Matt Eberflus survive Monday?

Jayden Daniels makes the most sense if grabbing a QB at draft, but maybe they just bring in a proven QB and erase any chance of getting it wrong, or third option, trade for Fields. I still don't think they go that route, because then they bring in someone who is still not proven, and they find themselves back on the gambling end of things

Belichick willing to give up player personnel duties for whatever team he coaches next year. I heard yesterday from Boston media that Falcons ownership is very interested in Belichick. I think he says with the Pats if those are his choices. But he's probably waiting to see how Cowboys season ends to make any decisions.

The Falcons would be the easiest. A reasonable and committed owner. A core of great players on offense, and a terrible division. All they need is a QB. The Falcons job will surely be a sought after one.

Rabs 01-08-2024 12:41 PM

I don't think Bill B goes to a team that doesn't have a legit QB.

Right now with the openings I'd say the Chargers make sense due to having Herbert.

Raiders, Panthers, Falcons, Commanders, and his current Patriots are all teams that have no solid QB.

You've seen how bad the Pats have been with subpar QB play ever since Brady left.

I think he stays in NE unless the Cowboys become an option. That's the one team where he could potentially go and win a Super Bowl. Chargers have a QB and nothing else. I don't think he leaves NE unless he thinks he is going to a Super Bowl contender and that's not Chargers with that current roster.

Apparently the Panthers have made a formal inquiry on Belichick. I can't imagine he would want that job. They would probably have to give him a lot of money and full control which their owner would probably be willing to do but it seems like a worse situation then Pats.

SethMurphy 01-08-2024 02:02 PM

If I remember correctly the Chargers in cap hell starting next season. Two major wide receiver contracts, Herbert's contract, Khalil Mack I think.. I know I'm forgetting some

Mack - $38.5M
Bosa - $36.6M
Allen - $34.7M
MWilliams - $32.4M
Derwin - $19.8M
Herbert - $19.3M

$34M over the cap, so he would come in, have a QB and need to cut almost all the veteran talent

Cutting Mack, Allen, Williams and Corey Linsley alone saves them $75M, but now your WRs are Quentin Johnston and Josh Palmer, and have no RB.

And veteran talent is aging WR1 who can never stay healthy and and a RB who looks like he's toast. I have heard Vrabel attached to the Chargers and he's probably a better fit right now. And Chargers and everyone else will probably have Harbaugh as first choice so need to see where he ends up before other coaches start getting hired.

I was on the fence about Wink leaving but ultimately I’m ok with it. We didn’t have the personnel to fully run his scheme and the only way to do that is to draft/sign for it. I wouldn’t want to waste another off-season/draft building a defense around him and then lose him next year anyways. At least now we can completely retool the roster

So I don't know how they did it, but the Rams are in the playoffs this year and walking into the offseason $44MM UNDER the cap, with Stafford, Donald, Kupp, K Williams, and Puka all under contract.

Les Snead masterclass.

Cutting Mack saves you $23MM but you lose your best defender this year.
Cutting Mike Williams saves you $20MM, but it's probably the move you make coming off an injury

That gets you back in the black before any adds and draft picks.

With the year Keenan Allen had, you probably keep him on the last year of his contract unless you can find a trade partner.

tjforce 01-09-2024 03:35 PM

Another team in Cap Hell: The Bills. $43MM over the cap.

They can push *some* Josh Allen money later in his deal, but probably not much. To make it worse, they don't have any 1 big deal they can cut to make up a large chunk of it. Rasul Douglas is their biggest potential cut, at $9MM. Nyheim Hines will be an easy cut saving them $5MM. Guys like Tre-Davious White, Mitch Morse, Taron Johnson will potentially be on the chopping block.

Dolphins will be interesting too. They are $40MM over the cap with Tua walking into the final year of his contract without an extension. Would it be crazy if they tried to trade Tua to a place like Atlanta at the 8th pick to try and draft a QB they liked? Alot of moving parts, but they are in trouble with only 1 easy big money cut, Oghab at $13.8MM

Finally, playoff teams in the best cap situations heading into next year:

Texans: $71MM
Lions: $59MM
Bucs: $47MM
Rams: $44MM
Chiefs: $35MM (~$70MM after Mahomes restructure and MVS cut, but before Jones/Sneed resign if they happen)

Texans are in position to make a big short-term run at a title.

QB on rookie deal, good WRs on rookie deals, EDGE on rookie deal. Throw short term money at big OLine, defense upgrades that expire before you have to pay Stroud and this team is a threat

Saints really Yolo'd and lost.

Worst part is they don't have any easy big cuts, so much of what they will have to do is restructure guys to take cap hits into even later years. They're going to be feeling this pain for years: Their effective cap space is -$46MM for 2025, so now we're talking about pushing more contract dollars into guys like Derek Carr, Ryan Ramczyk, and Marshon Lattimore into 2026 and maybe 2027. - Cousins has $28.5MM dead cap in 2024 so it is likely he will sign for the Vikings, as I don't see how they put 11% of their salary cap on someone that doesn't play AND keep Jefferson happy.
- The Vikings GM has not proven himself with two really bad draft classes. The Vikings haven't had a good draft since 2015. The law of averages are in his favor to "hit" on some picks.
- I would like to see Bill as the Falcons HC (possibly GM too) and see what he can do. Arthur Blank is 81 & he's not taking all that money with him. Seeing him in ATL is akin to Lombardi in Washington.
- The Chargers have some dysfunctional ownership & salary cap issues. Not to mention they play 2nd fiddle in a town that's not really their own.
- I hope the Vikings can retain Brian Flores as their DC.
- If it's true that Patricia changed the Eagles defensive terminology in the middle of the season, he needs to go.

Jason Kelce and Julio Jones, you both had great careers. Now hang up your cleats.
Man talk about a big shift in football for one year. If Tomlin retires (or takes a year off). You have Carrol, Belichek, and Tomlin all gone from their spots. Throw in Saban in Alabama. Those are some serious long tenured successfully coaches.
I've heard Tomlin doesn't want to retire or take time off, he just wants to coach somewhere else. He like Belichick hasn't had a QB in a while and seems obvious PIckett isn't the guy. I think it's more a situation where he tries to force a trade or force his way out. NFL coaches are becoming like NBA players now where contracts don't matter. The age of NFL coach empowerment

Julio, Kelce, Cam Heyward, Aaron Donald, Zach Ertz, possibly Tomlin, who else is going to be retiring this off-season?

Always assume the worst about Fat Matt. Always.

If they win it I bet Trent Williams hangs em up.

Tomlin announced he is returning to Steelers next year

JeremyNick 01-16-2024 07:32 PM
Tomlin walked out of press conference when asked about his contract. Like I said before the game rumors he will be gone after the season.
That was quick.

Colts owner OD last month per reports

https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/other/colts-jim-irsay-found-unresponsive-at-home-in-suspected-overdose-last-month-report/ar-AA1n7Dzf?rc=1&ocid=winp1taskbar&cvid=d38e1b5eb0284c058629301ef46b7040&ei=12

Think it's time owners forced him out like they did Snyder.

Sirianni should be fired for bringing on Fat Matt Patricia who ruins everything he touches.

Like the opposite of Midas Touch.

💩 Touch.

What's everyone targeting during the buying season?

I'll be targeting some combination of the following:

Zay Flowers
Ja'Maar Chase
Trevor Lawrence
Jared Goff
Lamar Jackson
Penei Sewell
Jordan Love
Aiden Hutchinson
Jaylen Waddle
Mike Evans
TJ Watt
Derek Stingley Jr
Justin Jefferson

And if it is dirt cheap, I'll take a flyer on Kyler Murray

Frenzy should make a custom card of Matty Patty and PC it. Use the powers for good.
