2025 Finest up today
Price? $269-$299 or more?
Noon eastern. https://www.topps.com/pages/topps-finest-baseball |
In for some James Wood singles.
|
$289.99 seems steep.

Noon eastern. https://www.topps.com/pages/topps-finest-baseball
I mean, what’s it worth or what’s Topps going to charge. It’s worth maybe $200. What are they going to charge? 349 I bet. |

Of course, the breakers will be all over this and it will sell out in less than an hour :D
They're like streaming networks, they need a constant stream of new content. Doesn't matter if its trash, they need something new. |
Its $289.99
I’m shocked they didn’t raise it higher than that. I wonder if they found the price ceiling recently. I’m seeing some breakers struggle to sell stuff other than on fanatics live. Has this always been released so close to chrome? |

That’s how the algorithms work… |
Not remotely worth $289..
I passed. |
Is it sold out already?

The design looks ok, but not as nice as last year. Seems closer to the 80s trapper keeper look, like 2023 finest.
Boxes were available for about an hour… not an instant sell out at least. |

Missed it…. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Don’t let FOMO take hold. It will be available on release day. The purpose of this is just to give FOMO and to get people to buy breaks on fanatics live. Single base James Wood auto will be cheaper than a box. Your odds of buying on eBay, 100%. Odds of finding one in a box: probably 1:60 or so. |
just wait until release day, you can buy it then instead of now and 30 days of them holding your money

I have a theory that the first boxes sent out hold a greater probability of a better “hit”. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Got the pre-sale email, checked the site, already sold out. Thanks Topps!

Product was ok. And I mean average at best when this was 110-120’dollars
Could not imagine on opening this at 275-300 ish |

best thing I did was unsubscribe from topps emails. all I wanted to do was stop the RIPPED emails, but it stopped everything, and I've never been better
|
I'm afraid to even ask how much a box and case were
finest never sells well |

Exactly. And for anyone that doesn’t believe this, just take a quick look at last years top players from Finest’s most recent sales. Not counting Skenes, as the mystery redemptions are produced at lesser quantities, Elly is the only player that can’t seem to be had for under the price of a box. A PSA 9 gold finest Chourio Auto sold a month ago for $40 less than the price of a box this year. Like most current products, this will be a cash-cow for the larger breakers but a slaughter for anyone opening for themselves. Yet, we know this and it still sells out in an hour. |
how much were boxes?

When breakers stop selling, the market and box prices crash. |
I wanted one, had it in my cart and it sold out before I could check out, my fault though because I didn't know about it until about 30ish minutes into the sale.
|
I bought 2. I enjoyed the 2024 format. Will be part of yearly vacation rip

saved you from yourself :p |
I was hoping they would fold some 1997 style finest flashbacks into this set somehow, but no luck... sure seems like that product line is dead.

They killed that product with the last release when the only numbered version was /10 and autos were what, 1 per case? There were lots of boxes that just had 1 refractor and nothing else. When you get a refractor of a veteran and a couple of non-numbered holds, yeah, people aren’t going to buy that. I got fortunate and received a Johnny Bench auto in mine. However, I didn’t even get a refractor. Single prices for that set aren’t very good. |
I paid $20 for a pack of Finest in 1993. For an 18 pack box, that was $360 a box. At least prices are down from that. :)!
|
who was the rookie chase in 1993?
|
who was the rookie chase in 1993?
Think a couple popular rookies for 1993 Finest were Mussina and J.T. Snow.....but '93 Finest was more focused on the refractors of veterans like Griffey Jr., Nolan Ryan, Bonds, Frank Thomas, Will Clark, etc...imo. |
who was the rookie chase in 1993?
We wanted THE SHINE!!!!! |
We wanted THE SHINE!!!!!
Yep.....back then it was a totally unique product....nobody had ever seen a refractor before. Now it's just a "meh" product that is no different than the many other products that contain refractors. |
I'm actually surprised there was a $360 box back in the 90s
must have been a fair amount of hype behind it at the time |
I'm actually surprised there was a $360 box back in the 90s
must have been a fair amount of hype behind it at the time
Well it was the OG “premium” Topps release. There were only 4,000 cases produced. |
It sells out because very limited is released to anybody that doesn’t break on fanatics live. When breakers stop selling, the market and box prices crash.
What makes you think breakers aren't buying these at that price too? after they sell out on release day, Topps will offer direct account cases at $20 a box more than they just sold on Topps.com |
I'm actually surprised there was a $360 box back in the 90s
must have been a fair amount of hype behind it at the time
The hype was insane. Retail was supposed to be $5/pack. Which compared to $.99 for other cards, even that was a lot. But they hype quadrupled the price. |
I didn't buy any in 1993 but distinctly remember them being $20 a pack at a couple of card shows, which was more than I could possibly fathom for a pack of baseball cards. Asking around it was all about finding something called a "refractor", which were 1 per box I believe. I had also heard they were easily searched - something to do with the wrapper size. Anyone remember then and can confirm?

New images added. Info will update at some point soon.

Note that pre-pandemic this was an $80-100 a box product.....
Note that pre-pandemic this was an $80-100 a box product.....
And what was the pre-pandemic price of a dozen eggs? Just want to know which breakers to be mad at more, those opening boxes of cards, or cracking eggs to bake cakes.

Trick question, Topps didn't have easter egg tins pre-pandemic. |

What's your point? The price of Finest has gone up roughly 250-300%. The price of eggs has gone up 30-50%. Generally speaking, the price of wax has gone up 2-3x the rate of overall inflation. |

We actually have some still defending the insane price of product ( and how bad of a "gamble" it has become) not to mention the direction the hobby has gone? I know it's just how it is but don't defend it.

This is basically what I also remember. $10 packs and rising very quickly. as a young teen that was impossible to buy. we balked at $1 '89 UD packs! I feel like I saw these up to at least $25 at one point in time. I've been watching some breakers on facebook and they somehow are ok with Topps Jumbo packs for $50 or base Topps hobby packs at $25. So really as long as someone is going to pay, and we know nearly all these products sell out no matter that the return is never going match, us logical folks are just left holding the Coyote WTH/WTF white flag. |
What's your point?

Generally speaking, the price of wax has gone up 2-3x the rate of overall inflation.
Did the population triple since 2020? Did the number of eggs decrease by 1/3? No? Then maybe you can understand the point. The number of people in the hobby has at least tripled. Increased demand means increased prices. It's basic economics.
We actually have some still defending the insane price of product ( and how bad of a "gamble" it has become) not to mention the direction the hobby has gone? I know it's just how it is but don't defend it.
It's not about defending prices. It's about understanding economics. If the market couldn't bear the price, Fanatics couldn't sell it. It's basic supply and demand. There is a demand at that price, so they will sell it at that price. Pretty simple. Is it an absurd gamble for these prices? Absolutely. It's why I don't buy it. But my personal choice that it isn't a good value so I don't buy has nothing to do with whether it's a price the market will bear. I'm rational enough to recognize when I am not the intended market, and to understand that someone else might be. It doesn't make me angry that I'm not willing to pay as much for something as someone else. It sucks that wax is no longer something I find worthwhile. But there are actual economic reasons for it. |
