UD announces Young Guns Checklist for Series 1
Listed in Discussions section on their Facebook page. Looks like they are really loading up on Series 1. Seems like Gustavsson is the only highly-touted rookie to be held out for Series 2.
Young Guns Card # Player Name 201 John Tavares 202 Victor Hedman 203 Matt Duchene 204 Ville Leino 205 Evander Kane 206 Michael Del Zotto 207 James Van Riemsdyk 208 Viktor Stalberg 209 Sergei Shirokov 210 Erik Karlsson 211 Dmitry Kulikov 212 Jamie Benn 213 Ryan O'Reilly 214 Tyler Myers 215 Jason Demers 216 Jay Rosehill 217 Brian Salcido 218 Luca Caputi 219 Spencer Machacek 220 Yannick Weber 221 Artem Anisimov 222 Ivan Vishnevskiy 223 Riku Helenius 224 Peter Regin 225 Antti Niemi 226 Byron Bitz 227 John Negrin 228 Ray Macias 229 Taylor Chorney 230 Mika Pyorala 231 Alec Martinez 232 Grant Lewis 233 Cal O'Reilly 234 Jesse Joensuu 235 Michal Neuvirth 236 John Scott 237 Benn Ferriero 238 Teemu Laakso 239 Jhonas Enroth 240 Matt Beleskey 241 T.J. Wow.... I'm surprised that UD put out the top three picks in series 1! Might be something to invest in!
|
No Mike Backlund on the list, yet he was in Victory ? Guess they saved him for series II then. Jay Rosehill made it in, gotta love the goons.
Those breaking keep me posted if selling JVR, Duchene and Evander Kane :)! |
If I don't break a case of this, keep me in mind for Matt Duchene (sorry Bammers) and Tyler Myers!
|

Don't forget...I have a case break open in the testing waters section by team which includes all YGs!
|
Do they have pictures up of them yet?? Ive seen the sell sheet but there was no pictures of the Young Guns.
|
wow i cant beleive this. all 3 big names in series one
i have 2 cases paid for already |

It's in my sig, Bammers! Mancrush #5! |
Yowza!!!!!!! that checklist is pretty much amazing!
|
Hmm, loading up Series 1, could that mean they aren't getting their exclusive renewed and there will be competition in the second half of the year?
|

HAHAHA....yeah right. You do realize that if another company gets a NHL license, they cannot have autographs of: Crosby, Gretzky, Ovechkin, Malkin, Yzerman, Howe, Messier, etc. If you owned a card company, would you want to shell out several millions of dollars for a license and not be able to use those guys in your card sets? |
So what do you guys think the key YGs will sell for at launch?
|

Well, common sense dictates no but we know that wouldn't stop some companies. Plus, guys could jump ship like Kobe. |
still cant beleive all 3 top picks are in this one
|
Predictions on values of some of the big YGs out of the gate? KMD mentioned $125 possible for Tavares in another thread - what do other people think?
|
Tavares will be around $80, Duchene around $40, Hedman around $30, Kane around $35, Myers around $20.
|
Predictions on values of some of the big YGs out of the gate? KMD mentioned $125 possible for Tavares in another thread - what do other people think?
I'm doubting $125 at this point. $80 seems realistic. |
O'Reilly might be around $20-25 as well as he is off to a good start.
|
What about Del Zotto? He's is/was leading the league in defense scoring.
|
This checklist seems to be getting better by the day. Could this rival 07-08 Series 1?
|
Similar as far as strong names go, but nowhere near it as far as sell value goes. There won't be a $100 YG in this years set, in that set there were two along with strong sellers like Gagner and Backstrom.
|
The only thing holding back sales of this years crop is the economy. A player like Tavares would fetch $100. out the gate if people were not hurting in the bank accounts. I would expect sales for these to be the same as they are for almost everything else, down. While I'm still breaking my case, I won't run to fleabay with everything while sales are poor.
BTW - I'm still a buyer for JVR, Kane and Duchene ;) |
I'm a buyer for Jamie Benn

Does a case usually make a complete set of Young Guns?

Last year I got 48 of 50 with 24 dupes. You just hope the 2 you are missing aren't big cards. |

So it sounds like collation isn't terrible. I'm trying to decide on a case or two. I guess it's just a matter if I'll have time and feel like sorting stuff. |

Yeah, I'm on the fence too. 1, 2 or 5? That's my fence. If I rip one or two cases, a lot goes in my PC and there is no great loss involved. |

The checklist looks really great so I'm wondering if it's worth buying a few cases or just wait until after it's out a bit and the cards cool off and buy then. I've never opened much base UD stuff, but other than the Young Guns and full sets does any other stuff sell? I assume the Clearly Canadian cards will sell pretty well but other than that I don't know. |
The checklist looks really great so I'm wondering if it's worth buying a few cases or just wait until after it's out a bit and the cards cool off and buy then.
You make your most money right out of the gate with this product. The common Young Guns get $4-5 on average the first week as people fill in their sets. They drop fast after that. Also, if Tavares comes out at $125, sell, sell, sell!!! It will probably be around Patrick Kane's level, maybe up a little bit because Tavares is Canadian. |
This is what I'm figuring out the gate. Even if I'm off by 20%, its still a great break.
201 John Tavares $80.00 202 Victor Hedman $25.00 203 Matt Duchene $40.00 204 Ville Leino $10.00 205 Evander Kane $25.00 206 Michael Del Zotto $20.00 207 James Van Riemsdyk $20.00 208 Viktor Stalberg $12.00 209 Sergei Shirokov $8.00 210 Erik Karlsson $4.00 211 Dmitry Kulikov $4.00 212 Jamie Benn $15.00 213 Ryan O'Reilly $25.00 214 Tyler Myers $20.00 215 Jason Demers $8.00 216 Jay Rosehill $8.00 217 Brian Salcido $4.00 218 Luca Caputi $4.00 219 Spencer Machacek $4.00 220 Yannick Weber $6.00 221 Artem Anisimov $8.00 222 Ivan Vishnevskiy $4.00 223 Riku Helenius $8.00 224 Peter Regin $4.00 225 Antti Niemi $10.00 226 Byron Bitz $4.00 227 John Negrin $4.00 228 Ray Macias $5.00 229 Taylor Chorney $4.00 230 Mika Pyorala $5.00 231 Alec Martinez $4.00 232 Grant Lewis $4.00 233 Cal O'Reilly $4.00 234 Jesse Joensuu $4.00 235 Michal Neuvirth $8.00 236 John Scott $4.00 237 Benn Ferriero $8.00 238 Teemu Laakso $4.00 239 Jhonas Enroth $8.00 240 Matt Beleskey $4.00 241 T.J. All right - nice predictions - appreciate the way you put it out there! We shall see what happens soon!
|
I think Duchene and James Van Riemsdyk will be a tad higher since they are playing well!
|
who the heck will they put in series 2 ?
who the heck will they put in series 2 ?
Gustavson, Hodgson (pending callup), Kadri, and Schenn will be the top ones. It'll be a Toronto buying market. |
Looks about right to me.
|
Well, I decided to get a case. Should be a fun & interesting break.
|
KMD,
Just curious...any idea how this compares to what 05-06 Series 1 was like out of the gate?
I think Solt can speak to this too. 2005-06 Series 1 was the most hyped hockey product since 1990-91 Upper Deck French. If you pull Crosby out (and that is a big pull), the lineup quality is fairly similar. What is lacking is a big time goaltender, but that could emerge with Enroth, Niemi, Neuvirth and Helenius in this set. Of course all four of them are European, so their ceiling is limited, but still there is a chance that one will be a franchise goaltender like Lundqvist and Cam Ward are. I don't see a whole lot of thunder behind this product, but that is a result of the economy more than anything.
Looks about right to me.
I think I may have been a bit conservative on some of these guys. The key to selling this product is to unload the low level Young Guns quickly before they fall to $1-2. They will get $4-6 in the first week or so out of the gate just from set builders. |
I still don't know what to do with my case I have on order. In the case break I have:
Islanders, Avs, Lightning, Flyers, and Flames. Maybe I should just hold onto the case and see what these guys do in a few years then try to unload the case...should I hold or break it open, any suggestions? Don't really need to sell or need the $ right now... |
John,
Based on what you get from our group break, I'd hold if i were you. You may get a run of the YGs as it is from the group. If you don't pull a Tavares or Duchene from the group then maybe you break your second and have a complete run of YGs as a set to put away. Regardless, I think the unopened case holds its value well as a $1K min case in a couple years. |
Now that I have a case ordered, I'm wondering the same thing John is....to hold it or open it. I dabble in hockey, but not enough to know which is the best decision. Any more suggestions from the hockey guys on here would be greatly appreciated.
|
I'd say hold on to the case.
|

I still think he's going to be a good one, but be wary about holding sealed wax. |

He's doing about what everyone expects him to...he's on pace for what 80 pts this season? He has 11 pts (5 G, 6 A) and the leading points rookie is James van Riemsdyk who has 13 pts (2 G, 11 A). |
I'm thinking about getting a case to break and sell, but I'm sure many of the winners will be from Canada. I dont sell much hockey so I dont send international much, but the times I do I get burned half the time from people doing chargebacks. What do you guys charge or what method do you use for shipping to Canada?
|
I've had pretty good luck thus far selling to Canadians in the past year -probably about 20-30 transactions total - I just send it first class with the customs form filled out. I note in my listings that shipments to Canada cannot be tracked, and withhold feedback until buyer leaves theirs confirming receipt. I will probably get burned sometime, but so far it's worked out.
|
I've shipped probably 3,000 envelopes to Canada and probably in total got 5 chargebacks. Most are shipped first class with a customs form filled out. I honestly believe those 5 never got their cards, so I'm good with that.

I don't ship much to Canada. Can someone explain more details about the customs forms that need to be filled out? |

I've had good luck as well with Canada buyers even when shipping takes longer due to their postal system. The other thing I love about hockey is European buyers (Sweden, Czech republic) which same thing goes for that. I post please contact seller for shipping charges on those though since costs are tricky. Bare in mind, with the Olympics coming up this year, the international market will be warmer than usual. |

For sending things First Class you simply need this little green form. You write your address and the destination and mark the value and what the package contains. They then stamp it and stick one half to the package and keep the other half on file. I just keep a pile of forms at home and fill everything out when I package stuff. The big hassle with international stuff is having to take it to the post office. The higher shipping levels require a larger carbon form. |

Gee, not sure I should pick some up since it seems like it'll be a crowded market, lol.

is this a product that would be a great rip and flip. it seems like it has solid rookies that will sell, but thats about it.

Usually the Young Guns sell very well. This year's rookie class is a pretty strong class! I don't see the better rookies dropping in price that much but the lower end Young Guns will definitely drop in price. Someone on here stated they will probably start out between $3-5 and quickly drop soon after that. The higher end rookies I would keep unless they get mad money! |
I heard this was pushed back until Thursday now, not Tuesday.

True...no big hype like Crosby or Ovi. We have to remember the 05/06 set was unique due to the strike so that is why that set is so high. Tavares and Duchene will make this set...granted it will not be like the 05/06 but it is the next best set to have |
I just preordered a case of this stuff. Do you guys suggest selling all the rookies together as a lot or sell them all individually?
|
I pre-ordered mine on here last week. Plus I'm looking into a second one. I just think this product will be great for a rip and flip. BTW I live on Long Island so I will get a premium on JT.
|
Well, I decided not to order...just worried about having time to deal with sorting and posting stuff asap. I was going to get 3 cases but I don't really want to get stuck with that stockpile of base. I figured I'll push my luck with more Cup:eek: Plus, I'm doing Heritage baseball the following week anyways.
Of course I know I'll get itchy when I see your breaks! |
well i think guys like tavares and duchene are going to be major players. hedman hasnt done much yet.......

Chris told me today that he expects Monday as release date and Tues the live date. I just paid off the case from the presale specials...and I asked him when it will ship and he said most likely Monday... |
Man, you guys are lucky to be getting yours 3 days early. Big advantage there.

You should have bought from BO! I still won't see my case until a week after it releases since I'm in the Pacific Northwest! |
how long does it usually take to ship? I'm over in the Northeast.
