Greg Jennings to Vikings

5 year deal.........your thoughts

Brad 03-15-2013 06:27 PM

Once again the Vikings take our sloppy seconds. Glad they overpaid for him so GB wouldn't be tempted to. There's a reason he was still on the market.

VikingsAllDay 03-15-2013 06:28 PM

yea baby!!!!! SKOL VIKES!

lmao, CAN'T WAIT! #bartjones

i hope they paid a lot for him, hope he does well though, i still got love for him.

Chaddie84 03-15-2013 06:34 PM

The Vikings need wideouts. Hopefully they didn't overpay.

I didn't realize he's only 29. I thought he was older.

cardinalscards4 03-15-2013 06:36 PM

Knew the Packers were letting him go but I am concerned. I don't think the team at its current state will compete for the Super Bowl this year. Ted Thompson has to make some/a move.

JKS4 03-15-2013 06:36 PM

Unbelievable that you packers fans rip a guy like Jennings.

Just like every other person out there...players are great til they leave your team. Then he's suddenly trash.

I don't think he does.

Based on who GB gets back on defense and O-Line from IR, they will be just fine. Pick up a few hole fillers in the draft and they are fine.

Granted, I would have liked Jackson, but I am glad TT didn't get into a bidding war and overpay... he wasn't a necessity.

I don't care if you go to another team outside the division...

I do care if you go to another team who is a rival.

There is a difference.

If he went to the Dolphins, I would have been kosher. Any team but the Bears, Vikings or Lions is good for him.

Agree with the comment on Jackson. I wanted him but only at the right price.

I think we could use an extra weapon on offense and adding a defensive player wouldn't hurt.

I haven't paid too much attention so if you could fill me in please do, but why cut Woodson to create cap space if they aren't going to make any moves?

Because Thompson is banking on using that money to re-sign Rodgers and Matthews. The money will get used, one way or another.

wanted him out of the NFC north! lol

kdub0982 03-15-2013 06:43 PM

Typical packer fans responses. If he would have resigned you guys would be singing his praises happy GB was able to retain Rodgers favorite target. But he didn't so he's old and washed up.

Good move by the Vikes.
I don't think minny got better, losing percy is huge he was such a playmaker, now team can just focus on ap
Because other teams didn't to that last year

The Vikings had a better record against tougher teams without Percy last year. They've resigned most of the team which got them there last year and have 4 picks in the first two rounds.

lambeauleap87 03-15-2013 07:07 PM

Meh, not too broken up about it. I've always liked Jennings, but he's been slowed down the past couple of years with injuries and such. I'd like to wish him the best, but he's with the Vikings, so I hope his career & team both go greatly downhill from here.

Nelson, Jones, & Co. will do just fine. Be interesting to see how Jennings does without one of the best QBs in the NFL at the helm. I'm especially glad they didn't give him a five-year deal.

My best memory of Jennings as a Packer, though, has to be watching him flip out after they clinched the Super Bowl...that was sweet.

I think Minny got worse, they lost their best corner and replaced Harvin with Jennings, a clear downgrade.

jt_1985_2004 03-15-2013 07:24 PM

Are the official contract #'s out yet? If they paid around 10mil it was a good deal to get that guy away from a division rival, especially for a productive WR such as Jennings.

tolrobb 03-15-2013 07:26 PM

5 years, 48 million.

they overpaid.

dherm360 03-15-2013 07:27 PM

the Bears added Bennett and a Linemen exactly what they needed

Coming from a Packers fan, this might be an average year for them. They are banking only on all of the injury ridden to come back. The first guy that pulls a hamstring, the strength and conditioning coach should be dragged in the stadium parking lot and beatin. All of the other contenders have upgraded, honestly they are not the class of the NFC, hell I'm worried about the Lions

It doesn't mean they will pay him that. If he does great then he deserves it. If not, they always have the option of cutting someone rather than the fulfilling the contract.

dherm360 03-15-2013 07:31 PM

In the back of my mind, I thought Jennings would give the Lions a "hometown" type discount
It doesn't mean they will pay him that. If he does great then he deserves it. If not, they always have the option of cutting someone rather than the fulfilling the contract.
$18 million guaranteed. like i said, they overpaid.

from a Packers perspective, Cobb is getting about $1m a year, albeit on a rookie contract, Jones is getting about $3m a year, and Jordy about $4.

I can see how they couldn't justify giving that much to Jennings. I love Jennings, but if they had given him that much, I'd be livid right now wondering how we're gonna pay Rodgers, Raji, and Matthews.

GOWIFB 03-15-2013 07:33 PM

Extremely disappointed by this news. Didnt really care when Sharper, Favre, and Longwell went to the Vikings but this one really hurts. Jennings still has a ton left in him. Not sure if Ted Thompson made an offer that was close to the Vikings or not. If the Vikings paid him alot more I can understand it. But if the deals were close it is extremely disappointing. He could have been a Packer for life like Driver but instead took off for a rival. Hope he likes having no QB throwing to him and no chance to win a super bowl for the rest of his career. In 20 years when he has an extra couple million in the bank but nothing else to show for it he may very well regret this decision. Sorry to see you go Greg

Of course assuming the Vikes dont make other FA moves and dont draft weapons right? I also recall we have an MVP running back. Something GB hasn't had in a while. If teams still wanna stack that box, go right ahead ;)

i don't get that response. he's been a very very good, not great player in his prime, he's now 30 years old and now has a significantly poorer quarterback throwing him the ball. He is going to suddenly get better to make him worth that contract?

Don't get me wrong, I've always like Jennings. But he's been a product of having Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre sling the ball to him and having other weapons to take coverage off of him. With Nelson, Jones, Cobb, etc., you can't offer help to cover him without leaving another good receiver open. Now, Jennings will be drawing every team's #1 corner (and then some) with no other above average receiver to draw coverage and a QB that struggles to get his receivers the ball.

You also forget what kind of receivers Minny had. Zero essentially, other than Harvin, and I seem to recall Ponder getting Harvin the ball effectively before he got hurt.

so does being the only decent receiver on the team and not having a future hall of famer throwing you the ball lol. but okay, you're right, he's jerry rice now. I forgot how prolific the Vikings passing game this past season with that great running game.

jt_1985_2004 03-15-2013 07:54 PM

I actually don't think they overpaid as much as some will say...he's still a reliable pass catcher, and Ponder needs that.
You also forget what kind of receivers Minny had. Zero essentially, other than Harvin, and I seem to recall Ponder getting Harvin the ball effectively before he got hurt.
Harvin is smaller, faster, quicker, and more versatile than Jennings is. He lined up in the backfield leading to plenty of touches.

I think it's this, yes, they overpaid. BUT, they NEEDED a reliable receiver if they have any hopes of properly developing Ponder. In that respect, it was a good move and one they just had to make.

achilles01987 03-15-2013 08:02 PM
Exactly...Minnesota has zero other weapons in their receiving core; and Harvin is a completely different animal than Jennings.
Did you watch every Vikings game last year like I did? Not likely as you're a GB fan. Wright is a weapon. Did great towards the end of the season. Why only at the end? That would be because he didn't start most of the season. That is a weapon. We now acquired another, to go with the phenomenal running game. Like I said, we'll talk after next season is over...

Especially with Rodgers' ability to make plays regardless of who he's throwing to. Even Crabtree got into the mix last season.

deltapi1049 03-15-2013 09:53 PM

I think that the money they gave him was about what the Packers were offering, including the 10M they offered last season. I dont think they underpaid, but it wasnt a gross overpayment either. They need the help and were willing to spend to get him - just the nature of the beast. Need drives these deals. Gotta believe that if he stays healthy things will work out well. There is no one else to throw to.

yankee_pride 03-15-2013 09:56 PM
