Greg Jennings to Vikings
5 year deal.........your thoughts
Greg Jennings agrees to deal with Minnesota Vikings, according to source - ESPN |
Once again the Vikings take our sloppy seconds. Glad they overpaid for him so GB wouldn't be tempted to. There's a reason he was still on the market.
|
yea baby!!!!! SKOL VIKES!
|
Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out...
|
Hell yeah!!!!!!!!
|
Jennings' sister is going to have a field day with Ponder.
|
Hope he enjoys having nobody throwing to him.
|
Jennings' sister is going to have a field day with Ponder.
lmao, CAN'T WAIT! #bartjones i hope they paid a lot for him, hope he does well though, i still got love for him. |
The Vikings need wideouts. Hopefully they didn't overpay.
I didn't realize he's only 29. I thought he was older. |
Knew the Packers were letting him go but I am concerned. I don't think the team at its current state will compete for the Super Bowl this year. Ted Thompson has to make some/a move.
|
Unbelievable that you packers fans rip a guy like Jennings. Just like every other person out there...players are great til they leave your team. Then he's suddenly trash. |

I don't think he does. Based on who GB gets back on defense and O-Line from IR, they will be just fine. Pick up a few hole fillers in the draft and they are fine. Granted, I would have liked Jackson, but I am glad TT didn't get into a bidding war and overpay... he wasn't a necessity. |

I wanted him but only at the right price. I think we could use an extra weapon on offense and adding a defensive player wouldn't hurt. I haven't paid too much attention so if you could fill me in please do, but why cut Woodson to create cap space if they aren't going to make any moves? |
Could be a great pickup depending on the numbers.

coming from a Vikings fan.. priceless |

The money will get used, one way or another. |
There goes his HOF chances....
wanted him out of the NFC north! lol |
Typical packer fans responses. If he would have resigned you guys would be singing his praises happy GB was able to retain Rodgers favorite target. But he didn't so he's old and washed up.
Good move by the Vikes. |

Not sure what that means, but ok. Keep hatin... |

Good move by the Vikes.
Who said he was old and washed up? Way to make #@#@#@#@ up. |
GB is good
MIN and DET got better this offseason Has CHI done anything? This is not a dick question. I just dont recall hearing them do anything |

Maybe he should've just retired...
I guess when Green Bay offered him $10 million to stay before FA, that was nothing. Hmm... |
Who said he was old and washed up?
Way to make #@#@#@#@ up.
I'm sorry Tommy I should have specified. I live in WI so I hear it all day long. |
I guess when Green Bay offered him $10 million to stay before FA, that was nothing. Hmm...
I really doubt that story. |
I'm sorry Tommy I should have specified. I live in WI so I hear it all day long.
It is a good move for Minnesota, but I am not a fan of watching Packers go to a division rival. |
I really doubt that story.
I don't... it was said that he wanted $12+ million per year so he went to FA. |
I guess when Green Bay offered him $10 million to stay before FA, that was nothing. Hmm...
never happened, agent speak in an attempt to drive up the price. i wonder if the packers even made an offer. the writing had been on the wall for a while. |
I don't... it was said that he wanted $12+ million per year so he went to FA.
Funny how he's probably making a portion of that now. |
Sorry to see Greg go but 12 million a year, not that sorry to see him go!
Kevin |

Maybe, we will never know. |
I don't think minny got better, losing percy is huge he was such a playmaker, now team can just focus on ap
Because other teams didn't to that last year  The Vikings had a better record against tougher teams without Percy last year. They've resigned most of the team which got them there last year and have 4 picks in the first two rounds. |
Meh, not too broken up about it. I've always liked Jennings, but he's been slowed down the past couple of years with injuries and such. I'd like to wish him the best, but he's with the Vikings, so I hope his career & team both go greatly downhill from here.
Nelson, Jones, & Co. will do just fine. Be interesting to see how Jennings does without one of the best QBs in the NFL at the helm. I'm especially glad they didn't give him a five-year deal. My best memory of Jennings as a Packer, though, has to be watching him flip out after they clinched the Super Bowl...that was sweet. |
I don't think minny got better, losing percy is huge he was such a playmaker, now team can just focus on ap
You are correct. Not sure how I forgot about that |
I think Minny got worse, they lost their best corner and replaced Harvin with Jennings, a clear downgrade.
|
I don't... it was said that he wanted $12+ million per year so he went to FA.
I heard that before the season the Packers offered him 10M a year before the season but after being injured all season, the Packers were only willing to offer 7M a year |
I think Minny got worse, they lost their best corner and replaced Harvin with Jennings, a clear downgrade.
Um no not a downgrade... Harvin didn't wanna be there anymore. This is an upgrade. A diva for a class act. I'll take that any day. |
Um no not a downgrade... Harvin didn't wanna be there anymore. This is an upgrade. A diva for a class act. I'll take that any day.
I meant on-the-field production wise. Harvin is a better more versatile football player. |
Once again the Vikings take our sloppy seconds. Glad they overpaid for him so GB wouldn't be tempted to. There's a reason he was still on the market.

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out...
Lol, yep just another one to add to the list.
Jennings' sister is going to have a field day with Ponder.
That might be worth starting a twitter account for.
I don't think he does. Based on who GB gets back on defense and O-Line from IR, they will be just fine. Pick up a few hole fillers in the draft and they are fine. I think Ted likes a RB in the draft, I hope he drafts Montee Ball I the second (I don't think he'll be around come late 3rd)
GB is good MIN and DET got better this offseason Has CHI done anything? Or got rid of that rare injury bug that only bites when the bears are down by 7. |
Jennings in purple...
|
Are the official contract #'s out yet? If they paid around 10mil it was a good deal to get that guy away from a division rival, especially for a productive WR such as Jennings.
|
5 years, 48 million.
they overpaid. |
the Bears added Bennett and a Linemen exactly what they needed
Coming from a Packers fan, this might be an average year for them. They are banking only on all of the injury ridden to come back. The first guy that pulls a hamstring, the strength and conditioning coach should be dragged in the stadium parking lot and beatin. All of the other contenders have upgraded, honestly they are not the class of the NFC, hell I'm worried about the Lions |
Jennings in purple...
Ha! I love it! |
5 years, 48 million.
they overpaid.
Holy over-payment, Batman. Jennings is NOT worth $9+ million a year. |
5 years, 48 million.
they overpaid.
It doesn't mean they will pay him that. If he does great then he deserves it. If not, they always have the option of cutting someone rather than the fulfilling the contract. |
In the back of my mind, I thought Jennings would give the Lions a "hometown" type discount
|
It doesn't mean they will pay him that. If he does great then he deserves it. If not, they always have the option of cutting someone rather than the fulfilling the contract.
$18 million guaranteed. like i said, they overpaid. from a Packers perspective, Cobb is getting about $1m a year, albeit on a rookie contract, Jones is getting about $3m a year, and Jordy about $4. I can see how they couldn't justify giving that much to Jennings. I love Jennings, but if they had given him that much, I'd be livid right now wondering how we're gonna pay Rodgers, Raji, and Matthews. |
Extremely disappointed by this news. Didnt really care when Sharper, Favre, and Longwell went to the Vikings but this one really hurts. Jennings still has a ton left in him. Not sure if Ted Thompson made an offer that was close to the Vikings or not. If the Vikings paid him alot more I can understand it. But if the deals were close it is extremely disappointing. He could have been a Packer for life like Driver but instead took off for a rival. Hope he likes having no QB throwing to him and no chance to win a super bowl for the rest of his career. In 20 years when he has an extra couple million in the bank but nothing else to show for it he may very well regret this decision. Sorry to see you go Greg

A season with Ponder instead of Rodgers and no other receiving weapons around him, mind you. |
A season with Ponder instead of Rodgers and no other receiving weapons around him, mind you.
Sounds like he'll be the "go to" then. |

Of course assuming the Vikes dont make other FA moves and dont draft weapons right? I also recall we have an MVP running back. Something GB hasn't had in a while. If teams still wanna stack that box, go right ahead ;) |
Yeah, give him a season then we'll talk.
i don't get that response. he's been a very very good, not great player in his prime, he's now 30 years old and now has a significantly poorer quarterback throwing him the ball. He is going to suddenly get better to make him worth that contract? |
Of course assuming the Vikes dont make other FA moves and dot draft weapons right? I also recall we have an MVP running back. Something GB hasn't had in a while. If teams still wanna stack that box, go right ahead ;)
Don't get me wrong, I've always like Jennings. But he's been a product of having Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre sling the ball to him and having other weapons to take coverage off of him. With Nelson, Jones, Cobb, etc., you can't offer help to cover him without leaving another good receiver open. Now, Jennings will be drawing every team's #1 corner (and then some) with no other above average receiver to draw coverage and a QB that struggles to get his receivers the ball. |

A great running game changes the equation completely. |

You also forget what kind of receivers Minny had. Zero essentially, other than Harvin, and I seem to recall Ponder getting Harvin the ball effectively before he got hurt. |
A great running game changes the equation completely.
so does being the only decent receiver on the team and not having a future hall of famer throwing you the ball lol. but okay, you're right, he's jerry rice now. I forgot how prolific the Vikings passing game this past season with that great running game. |
I actually don't think they overpaid as much as some will say...he's still a reliable pass catcher, and Ponder needs that.
|
You also forget what kind of receivers Minny had. Zero essentially, other than Harvin, and I seem to recall Ponder getting Harvin the ball effectively before he got hurt.
Exactly...Minnesota has zero other weapons in their receiving core; and Harvin is a completely different animal than Jennings. |
You also forget what kind of receivers Minny had. Zero essentially, other than Harvin, and I seem to recall Ponder getting Harvin the ball effectively before he got hurt.
Harvin is smaller, faster, quicker, and more versatile than Jennings is. He lined up in the backfield leading to plenty of touches. |
I actually don't think they overpaid as much as some will say...he's still a reliable pass catcher, and Ponder needs that.
I think it's this, yes, they overpaid. BUT, they NEEDED a reliable receiver if they have any hopes of properly developing Ponder. In that respect, it was a good move and one they just had to make. |
Exactly...Minnesota has zero other weapons in their receiving core; and Harvin is a completely different animal than Jennings.
Did you watch every Vikings game last year like I did? Not likely as you're a GB fan. Wright is a weapon. Did great towards the end of the season. Why only at the end? That would be because he didn't start most of the season. That is a weapon. We now acquired another, to go with the phenomenal running game. Like I said, we'll talk after next season is over... |
$18 million guaranteed. like i said, they overpaid.

Even Crabtree got into the mix last season. |
I think that the money they gave him was about what the Packers were offering, including the 10M they offered last season. I dont think they underpaid, but it wasnt a gross overpayment either. They need the help and were willing to spend to get him - just the nature of the beast. Need drives these deals. Gotta believe that if he stays healthy things will work out well. There is no one else to throw to.
|
about 3 yrs. and $20 mil. to much for a guy that's 29 going on 30 and missed over half the season last year due to injury.

how will ponder stock be affected would his value rise or stay the same?
Exactly...Minnesota has zero other weapons in their receiving core; and Harvin is a completely different animal than Jennings.
umm sorry but Rudolph is a really good TE and Jarius Wright looked good last year. Plus 2 first round picks will turn into at least 1 WR |
Cassell to Jennings could be an electric combo
