Most Underrated players in the Game Right now?

Pitcher: Paul Maholm 3-0 0.00 ERA Mike Minor 2-0 0.69 ERA Position: Nate Schierholtz .361 2 HR 8 RBI Jean Segura .415 1HR 3 RBI Austin Jackson .393 1 Hr 6 RBI .448 OBP Coco Crisp .333 4HR 8 RBI John Buck .326 6 HR 19 RBI WHo are yours? |
Jean Segura
Mine would be
Pitcher: Paul Maholm 3-0 0.00 ERA Position: Nate Schierholtz .361 2 HR 8 RBI WHo are yours?
I agree with this...not sure about the hitter. |

|
I say over their careers Beltre, Thome, Helton, more that I forget
Im more referring to so far this year, altough I agree with you on all three accounts. |
Paul Konerko, even though I'm a homer lol.
|
Paul Konerko, even though I'm a homer lol.
I completely agree, but like I said Im more referring to this year, and he hasnt started off too hot. Hes the only White Sox I have any respect for. |
Right now, I have to agree with Maholm....guy has been a machine so far this season, playing on a great Braves team.
The other I'd like to mention will make me seem like a homer, but I have to say Austin Jackson. So far this season he has done nothing but get on base, and score runs. I think it really brings to light that last season just wasn't a fluke for him; I really think the change he made in his swing last year impacted him greatly....he's hitting .393, 19 runs scored and an OBP of .448 so far this year. Now obviously its still early in the season, and a small sample size, but it seems he's picking up where he left off last season, even adding on to it |
Mike Morse hittin BOMBS boi.
|
Paul Maholm 3-0 0.00 ERA Fantasy team:flex:
Markakis Wieters Zobrist |
Coco Crisp!
|
John Buck
TEN CHARACTERS |
Pitchers- Paul Maholm and Mike Minor
Hitters- Paul Konerko and Martin Prado |
I picked up Buck and Maholm 2 weeks ago. I did good :)
|
justin upton........ honestly look at his numbers
|
justin upton........ honestly look at his numbers
He isnt underrated at all. Neither is Morse. They are both good, but that is fully expected of them. |
Guys this year I feel will keep up close to production will be become higher rated as the year goes on
hitters Juan Segura Dexter Fowler without a doubt - top 5 CF IMO Wilin Rosario Chris Carter pitchers Paul Malholm Jeff Samarjdzja or however its spelt |
justin upton........ honestly look at his numbers
But he was never underrated... |
Starling Marte
|
Jed Lowrie is actually under-rated.
Hisashi Iwakuma would be my under-rated pitcher. |

Everyone knows who he is, but he is still underrated IMO. CRAIG KIMBREL! If his arm doesn't fall off he could put together one of the best string of years for a closer in the history of the game. Seriously, look up his career stats. It is scary to think that most people improve after they have been in the bigs for a few years.

I'm a fan of his :o |
Hisashi Iwakuma would be my under-rated pitcher.
Fantasy Team:flex: |
Michael Bourn (he just put on 15 day DL)
Starling Marte Nick Markakis Matt Harvey (not sure if anyone expected him to be this hot out of the gate) Paul Malholm |
jyouls chacin
jose fernandez |
Brandon Crawford
|
Vernon Wells
Lyle Overbay Brennan Boesch Travis Hafner Chris Stewart Francisco Cervelli Yes I'm a homer but I don't think I'm alone in thinking that almost all of these guys have been performing surprisingly well lately (which is to say that the first 4 guys are basically doing what Ibanez and Jones did last year, actually help the Yankees in their time of need). |
is torii hunter under rated or no, has a 10 game hitting streak right now and hitting .400
|
starling marte, hitting .375 in the leadoff spot, 10 game hitting streak
|
Clay Buchholz
|
Clay Buchholz
I wouldn't consider him underrated really. Wellington Castillo is now hitting about .420. I think he deserves a spot on here but I need someone else to say it so I don't look like a homer:devil: |
I completely agree, but like I said Im more referring to this year, and he hasnt started off too hot. Hes the only White Sox I have any respect for.
Your question is not worded correctly. Underrated implies a long term disregard for someone or something's performance. Your suggestions are more like "players who have gotten off to hot starts or are playing over their heads." To imply that someone who is vastly outplaying their prior performance on the major league level or just starting their major league career, is underrated is overstating the facts. |
Michael Bourn (he just put on 15 day DL)
Starling Marte Nick Markakis Matt Harvey (not sure if anyone expected him to be this hot out of the gate) Paul Malholm
Bourn is over-rated if anything... |

My apologies for wording my question wrong. But it appears most everyone else knew what I meant, but you're right I did word it wrong. |
Paul Maholm 3-0 0.00 ERA Fantasy team:flex:
Markakis Wieters Zobrist
How can you name these people but not Adam Jones??? Jones is TEARING it up. |
Starling Marte and Markakis
|
Mine would be

All of the batters will snap back to normal. Schierholtz won't be underrated as he'll probably finish the year about .270 and 10 homers |
I think Torii Hunter is really underrated. Hitting .411 hes one of the hottest hitters in the game.
Heres some others: Starling Marte Jed Lowrie Dexter Fowler (7 HOME RUNS!) Jeff Samardzija Paul Maholm Jhoulys Chacin (under 2 ERA) Carlos Villanueva (like a 1 era after today) Jake Westbrook (Even though he technically gave up 6 runs last start but lucked out because the game got rained out) |
Offense Hot Start/Under-Rated:
C- John Buck 10 R 6 HR 19 RBI .326 AVG 1.066 OPS 1B- Matt Adams 5 R 3 HR 8 RBI .524 AVG 1.613 OPS 2B- Daniel Murphy 13 R 2 HR 11 RBI .340 AVG 1.002 OPS 3B- Todd Frazier 8 R 4 HR 12 RBI 2 SB .278 AVG .900 OPS SS- Jed Lowrie 14 R 3 HR 13 RBI .373 AVG 1.092 OPS OF- Torii Hunter 11 R 1 HR 9 RBI .413 AVG 1.026 OPS OF- Angel Pagan 13 R 8 RBI 1 SB .333 AVG OF- Dexter Fowler 10 R 6 HR 9 RBI 1 SB .292 AVG 1.090 OPS SP- Paul Maholm 20.1 IP 3 W 20 K 0.00 ERA 0.79 WHIP 4.00 K/BB SP- Jeff Samardzija 19.2 IP 1 W 27 K 2.75 ERA 0.97 WHIP 4.50 K/BB SP- Justin Masterson 27.0 IP 3 W 25 K 1.67 ERA 1.11 WHIP 2.78 K/BB SP- Jhoulys Chacin 18.1 IP 2 W 11 K 1.96 ERA 0.98 WHIP 2.20 K/BB SP- Jose Quintana 17.2 IP 1 W 17 K 2.55 ERA 1.02 WHIP 4.25 K/BB CL- Addison Reed 7.0 IP 1 W 5 SV 6 K 1.29 ERA 0.86 WHIP 2.00 K/BB I don't view most of these guys as "Under-Rated", but definitely off to hot starts. Of the hitters, I think the only ones that will keep up solid production through the whole year are Torii Hunter and Angel Pagan (both are actually proven players). Jed Lowrie I think will also have good numbers at seasons end. The res of these batters, IMO, will fall back down to earth. As for the pitchers, I think all of them should have good seasons. I see Samardzija as a legitimate Cy Young threat, Maholm as a steady guy although his K rate will decline, and the other 3 SP will have good numbers at years end as well. By the real definition of "Underrated" I think guys like Paul Konerko, Adam Wainwright, Jordan Zimmerman, Nick Swisher, Adam Laroche, Martin Prado, Asrubal Cabrera, Alex Rios, to name a few. |
CHASE HEADLEY = Most underrated player in baseball!
|
Although I'm not a Red Sox fan by any means, I've got bring up my favorite player on the BoSox.
Junichi Tazawa Edit: Koji Uehara's pretty good as well. |

Surprised nobody has brought up this guy...
Chris Johnson .438 avg (LEADS THE MAJORS) 2 HR 7 RBI 7 R .625slg% 1.063 OPS |
Pronk! Hafner is a beast
|
Pitchers
Matt Moore Hiroki Kuroda Chad Billingsley Alex Cobb AJ Ellis Dexter Fowler Brandon Phillips Anthony Rizzo |
Has anyone mentioned Alex Gordon?

Paul Konerko
|
Brandon Crawford
Still proving me right!!!! |
Jump on the soon to be 18 game winner at the end of the season...Jordan Zimmermann
|
Between last year and the start of this year Carlos Gomez finally seems to be living up to his potential.
|
I really don't see how Paul Maholm is underrated. He has not shown any stand out performance before this season and he has only pitched 3 games. With this logic we should have 3 or 4 batters bat 400 this year, a couple guys hit 300 rbis and several pitchers get 35 wins. You could say this about any player who has a hot start, it really means nothing. IMHO
|
anyone say chris johnson yet?
|
Michael McKenry!!
|
John Buck in a landslide. He went into the season as the # 831 ranked offensive player(Yahoo) on the board and currently rests at #9. There is no other pitcher or hitter close to that atmosphere.
|
Yup, I did.
ok cool, yeah he is killing it. |
ok cool, yeah he is killing it.
Currently hitting .418 and that leads the majors! Also has got 8 multi-hit games so far this season. |
Munenori Kawasaki
|
Jose Altuve

Kind of disagree here, I feel he just needed to be on a solid team, being so long with cubs/pirates, I liked what he brought to table, I think his numbers have a solid chance of staying close to all star levels through the year |

That doesn't make him underrated, it means he's likely off to a fluky start (based on a large sample of career numbers), granted this thread is basically a "who has the best 5 game sample size". |

Based on the way that the question was asked, the correct answer is John Buck. Leads the major leagues in RBI's and is 2nd in HR's. 15 games in the twilight zone. |
Carlos Santana
|
Homer Bailey is underrated he still has enormous potential and its starting to translate more consistently
|

I'm not saying he isn't a solid pitcher. I just don't think he is underrated. His innings pitched and strikeouts over the last 5 seasons doesn't say underrated to me. |
Chris Johnson for sure. The Braves killed that trade. Maybe one day we'll all stop doubting Wrenn.
|
Jordan Zimmermann. They showed either his "Swing and miss on FB" percentage or average FB velocity when Harvey pitched against Strasburg and he was up there, I think third in the league.
