I'll start. I was doing the COMC challenge and this came up:

The '94 Marshall Faulk SPx diecut rookie represents a lot of what I love and hate about this hobby.

I had wanted a copy of his regular SPx rookie forever, and finally bought it when the book value was at $40 (long, long ago). I didn't even know the diecut version existed until much later.

I still have both versions, but they have gone down in value tremendously. I feel like they are worth more than what I paid for them, but the rest of the world disagrees.

I'm willing to bet a lot of collectors overvalue their collection, only because cards tend to depreciate because everybody is chasing the newest and shiniest cards.

Definitely a good view of how "value" changes so quickly and how a lot of people hold on to past value. It's like the buddy who has all his cards in the attic and figures they're worth thousands but then you realize they're all 1989 Topps and nope.
