Looks like late October now :(

lambeauleapfan 09-14-2012 09:16 PM

Blowout officially says Wednesday October 31st now as the release date :(

thepick88 09-14-2012 09:58 PM

This is completely ridiculous! I will be ripping ass on Monday! They will either make this right with all of us or they deserve whatever crap comes their way!

celtics 09-14-2012 10:42 PM

UD Retro was delayed from March to September and was totally worth the wait, this hopefully will just be July to October, it totally sucks but it will hopefully be the wrestling fans dream product!

Dierectly from the desk of Brian Gray :

Originals Wrestling:

As we’ve stated before, this labor of love is certainly not short of labor. We are growing closer to being ready to release this exciting item.

However, to release it prematurely would create what I feel are too many redemptions (with a few fighters who could eventually be unfilled).

I can not in good conscience release this item until I am personally pleased with the final product.

I would anticipate a Mid-Late October release (which could definitely be earlier).

Ultimate Golf:

This set is coming along very nicely. At this time we are very close to completion. I am revising the release date to Mid-late October release (which could be sooner). I can say this stuff looks GREAT!!!!!!!!

Sorry guys to give you the officail news

Makes Gray and Co. look amateur. You're dealing with a bunch of guys who came up during the times when wrestling was carnival-esque. You didn't anticipate that these guys would get cold feet or simply try to swindle you out of some money? Have you ever read the Virgilbag, for Christ's sake? Inexcusable.

Brobocop 09-15-2012 08:41 AM

So what was the original release date for this? October 31 is really unacceptable. Like I said before, I'd love to know how close he is percentage wise and who we are waiting on. The more information you give sometimes, the less hostile people will be towards your product.

geoffyb 09-15-2012 09:00 AM

original date was july 26

ricksam 09-15-2012 09:03 AM

wow .. that is a long time to tie up cash

viperdays 09-15-2012 09:36 AM

I was told Piper and Roberts were
2 of the cards that had yet to be returned

WilsonValdez 09-15-2012 01:54 PM

October 31st it is :(

pnft17 09-15-2012 06:12 PM

It's too bad these guys can't get their cards signed and returned.

When Gray comes out with a book. Sure we will see a couple chapters on headaches dealing with old school wrestlers.

geoffyb 09-15-2012 07:50 PM

Jake probably lost the cards...
Jake probably lost the cards...
cards? what cards?

be on the look out for unsigned super rare ones on ebay :)!
and likely before the official set ever released

im guessing 2013

pnft17 09-15-2012 08:37 PM

yeah I bet we see some card just randomly show up signed/unsigned that never got returned to Leaf. Like how some of the wrestlers in wcw/nitro set did. Never gave them back to Topps. But still got out via other means.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if few guys lost/misplaced them. Spilled beer on them ect.

Brobocop 09-15-2012 08:56 PM

Yeah I wouldn't be shocked if Jake lost them, ever see the video where he thinks getting a 22 in blackjack is a good thing?

pnft17 09-16-2012 12:32 AM

Delay is smart move for Leaf.
With Topps WWE just going live. Another wrestling product right on its heels would not be good marketing.

Anyone think Leaf has any chance to be a better release than new WWE?

Depends if Topps really did get HHH to sign some autos for their set :p

Despite the delays though, Leaf's line up appeals to me more overall than WWE's current offering, although if the HHH cards actually exist then it closes the gap somewhat.

geoffyb 09-16-2012 06:31 PM

topps seemed great...at first. with no hhh autos showing up and everything else being impossible to pull i think leaf will be a better overall product for the money.

Tylerg30 09-16-2012 06:42 PM

Even though they are both wrestling, they are 2 totally different products.

Leaf is geared toward autograph collectors, especially of the retired stars.

Topps WWE was a set collector/low end product. If you sold it correctly, there was money to be made on it (made a couple hundred on a case without pulling anything big at all).

Going to be interesting to see if they do anything extra upon release of Leaf, since it keeps getting pushed back with people getting more and more frustrated everyday. Don't know if it's a company issue or what, but another big product that was supposed to hit this month (Ultimate Golf) got pushed back another month too. A lot of money tied up in that too, since is was allocated to buyers of the first Leaf Golf earlier this year.

ricksam 09-16-2012 06:59 PM

topps could probably do a series 2 before leaf hits

topps is geared for both - set builders and auto collectors ..
i dont care for the parallels like some do .. and the autos are not bad at all - divas, legends in the mix

pnft17 09-20-2012 11:32 PM

Superstar Billy Graham signing in red ink. The ink variations should be all over the place on these cards.

Why is it not written into their contract that if they don't have these cards back by a certain time, the athletes don't get paid?? You know these athletes would be throwing a fit if their club or WWE or whoever was late getting them their money.

Real simple, sign these cards (which may take a total of 2 hours out of their lives) and return them by such and such date or not only do you not get paid, but we sue you for breach of contract, damages, etc.

pnft17 09-21-2012 08:44 AM

The athletes really hold all the power in these signing deals. Also, many times agents get involved and pull power trips and even try holding card companies up for more money.

Leaf is pretty smart in getting a lot of guys to sign at shows. Piggybacking with other promoters to help cut costs.

Dealing with old time wrestlers is entire new can of worms to deal with. As we all know a lot of these guys aren't very reliable in many ways. Getting a Scott Hall to sign took a few cancellations, before he finally showed up. Have to give Leaf credit for doing this type of set. I just hope they do another one down road with new signers and the process of doing this one doesn't turn them off on doing another series. So many other guys to choose from down the road.
