2012 Leaf Originals Wrestling updated info

2012 Leaf Originals Wrestling

Due to an unexpected contractual obligation, Shawn Michaels will no longer be appearing in this release.

In his place, we are excited to announce TWO product improvements:

1> In lieu of Michaels autographs, these cards will be replaced by redemption cards for the ORIGINAL 5X7 PENCIL ARTWORK used to make these cards! Rarely will collectors have the chance to own the original artwork that resulted in one of a sport's most legendary sets.

2> We are pleased to announce HOT BOXES (specially marked). These HOT BOXES will fall at a rate of 1 per case!

Hot Boxes will feature ALL 5 AUTOGRAPHS from a single Parallel Level (numbered as low as 1/1)

hahaha, Michaels was one of my favorites back in the day, however, I always made fun of him for that speech. Good one!

geoffyb 06-18-2012 06:09 PM

what is the source of this checklist?

Zoop 06-19-2012 02:00 AM

If true, I dig it. Few marquee names on there and good ones for those filling out certified champion autos (Bob Backlund, Sheikie baby, Luger, Vader).

Shimey013 06-19-2012 06:54 AM

I really wish leaf would stop marking their hot boxes. Problem is when leaf marks them the price of those boxes gets jacked up sky high. How bout make hot boxes and dont mark them.

Maybe its just me, but i like the random chance of getting a hot box and not knowing if it is or isnt.

geoffyb 06-19-2012 10:33 AM

I will probably buy a case and sell the hot box. I could care less if all 5 cards are numbered to 50 or 25 or not.

pnft17 06-19-2012 12:21 PM

Have no problem with hot boxes. A way to reward the big spenders who are busting cases.
Great checklist. Does Backlund, Kamala, Steele, Valentine have certified autos in other stuff?
Abdullah Butcher should be a big seller.

Was hoping for more old school guys. But I'm, sure we will see a few different series of this stuff in future and include new signers down road.

geoffyb 06-19-2012 02:11 PM

Valentine will have a certified auto in the upcoming topps release as well as several other first time signers on that list. where did you get that list from?

kajshack 06-19-2012 02:54 PM

I'm too lazy to check the sell sheet. Is there going to be dual autos in this product? Hart/Neidhart, Steiner bros, Sheik/Volkoff, Beefcake/Valentine, Martel/Santana, Hall/Nash...lots of possibilities. Also, multi autos with managers and the guys they managed would be sweet.

geoffyb 06-19-2012 03:06 PM

as far as i have seen its just single autos

pnft17 06-19-2012 03:29 PM

Brian Gray posted the list on another site.
Are these getting their first autos Atlas, Rocky Johnson, Koloff, Putski, Roberts?

I know Bruno and Superstar Graham have sportkings autos.

I'm too lazy to answer. :p

I think the checklist, if true, looks pretty awesome!

pnft17 - I don't know what you consider "old school," but most of those names had their heyday in the 70's and 80's.

thepick88 06-19-2012 05:28 PM

A couple of these people like Abdullah and Rocky are dead unless they signed way earlier or are cuts.

Zerokruel 06-19-2012 05:55 PM
A couple of these people like Abdullah and Rocky are dead unless they signed way earlier or are cuts.
Are you 100% sure? I thought they were both alive.

pvdfan 06-19-2012 06:00 PM

Both are still alive.

JOHNJOHNNY 06-19-2012 06:04 PM

can someone take that list and make a best to worst list.

Like if you were in a hit draft, how would you rank the autos?

Zoop 06-19-2012 06:18 PM

Unlike baseball or other sports, it's more subjective with wrestling. Do you value the best athletes? The best speaker? The biggest personalities? I'd value a Joke Roberts auto over a Hulk Hogan auto, for example, because Hogan can't wrestle and never could; despite this, he's probably the best hit in the collection.

luxzombie 06-19-2012 06:54 PM

WOW!!! This is great, only one I do not want. Great odds for me.

kajshack 06-19-2012 07:09 PM

Watch Hogan's matches from New Japan in the late 80s/early 90s. I know it's cool to hate on Hogan, but to say he can't wrestle is a bit of a stretch.

To answer the previous poster's question, in terms of monetary value I'd rank them:
1. Hogan
2. Flair
3. Bret Hart
4. Jake Roberts
5. Bruno Sammartino

I could easily see Roberts being #2 or 3 on this list. He was very popular. Sheik, Abdullah, Piper, Hall, and Nash should also do well. As a matter of fact, if this is the actual checklist it is pretty strong. There is not one name on there that I would turn down.

Hogan could put on a show with his natural charisma, the lore of his character, and the level of the worker in the ring with him. Put him in there with a guy of his stature (Warrior, for example) and it will make you hate pro wrestling.

I'd argue Hall would be up there. It's terrible to say but I will because we're all thinking it: the time for getting his auto may be coming to a close sooner rather than later.

thepick88 06-19-2012 09:51 PM

I thought Abdullah and Rocky were both dead but I guess not. Not sure who I was thinking of. I have my boxes on pre-order so I will post them here after I break them...Here's who I'm really interested in pulling..

Bruno Sammartino
Dallas Page
George Steele
Hulk Hogan
Jake Roberts
Koko B. Ware
Lex Luger
Nikolai Volkoff
Paul Orndorff
Ric Flair
Rocky Johnson
Scott Hall
The Honky Tonk Man
Tito Santana

Hogan vs. Warrior from Wrestlemania 6 was awesome.

geoffyb 06-19-2012 11:05 PM

I am most def interested in the guys that don't have autos already like Roberts, Honky, Sid Vicious, Martel and Tatanka. But only if Martel is pictured as the Model haha

I think the Jake Roberts is way up there also. I think he is one of those key wrestlers, and a lot of people need his autograph in their collection.

The checklist is very strong - I don't mind it one bit. That damn art is the only thing that gets me though.

geoffyb 06-19-2012 11:28 PM

and just think. if you pull a hbk redemption you get to own some of that artwork for yourself haha

Zoop 06-20-2012 02:38 AM
Hogan vs. Warrior from Wrestlemania 6 was awesome.
Hey, whatever floats your boat. :)! I respectfully disagree to the max.

JOHNJOHNNY 06-20-2012 04:31 AM

Ok as far as resale value, what order would they go in?

pnft17 06-20-2012 09:02 AM

Hogan, Flair, Piper will all sell well. My guess is they will also be short printed. These guys probably charged most to get them done.
The checklist is strong and a lot of guys are getting their first certified autos on the market. Prices out of the gate should be good. Then the Ebay flood will hit and that will be the time to buy when prices drop. Then once flood goes away prices will climb back up.
With this stuff a sell out at Leaf. I'm sure we will see a couple more releases of old school wrestling from Leaf. It's too bad getting images rights to use is a license nightmare. But with two versions paintings of each card and different serial # versions. Sure we will see collectors trying to hunt down every variation of their guys cards. Sure the 1/1 will go crazy.

kajshack 06-20-2012 10:23 AM
Ok as far as resale value, what order would they go in?
I gave you a list of ten names earlier. Are you wanting someone to rank the entire list for you?

JOHNJOHNNY 06-20-2012 12:23 PM

ok, i see it, thanks

gottagitdemjs 06-20-2012 04:34 PM

Man it would be awesome if there were inscriptions on the cards. Would love to see some of the stuff Shiekey would write on his (most of it would probably be about Hogan).

Zoop 06-20-2012 06:06 PM
Man it would be awesome if there were inscriptions on the cards. Would love to see some of the stuff Shiekey would write on his (most of it would probably be about Hogan).
"Number one champwell Sheiky baby! Hulk Hogan have the grasshopper ****!"

geoffyb 06-21-2012 12:21 AM

I am willing to bet wrestlers like Scott Hall and Roberts go for more than Piper does. He already has 2 certified autos, neither of which brings much more than $30 if that and they are both on-card.

pnft17 06-21-2012 12:30 PM
Valentine will have a certified auto in the upcoming topps release as well as several other first time signers on that list. where did you get that list from?
Yeah, will be interesting how prices are for the guys like Valentine that are coming out in both. Leaf will have the advantage of on card auto. Topps will have advantage of having a photo and tougher pull and much bigger collector base with brand name.

pnft17 06-21-2012 12:32 PM
I am willing to bet wrestlers like Scott Hall and Roberts go for more than Piper does. He already has 2 certified autos, neither of which brings much more than $30 if that and they are both on-card.
Probably right. I think a lot just going to depend on who are the tougher pulls. Does Backlund have any cert autos? He could be a real sleeper.

Zoop 06-21-2012 01:29 PM
Probably right. I think a lot just going to depend on who are the tougher pulls. Does Backlund have any cert autos? He could be a real sleeper.
I was thinking that, too. Long reign as champion.

geoffyb 06-21-2012 10:41 PM

backlund's role as a heel killed it for me. he was so irritating

Vader time

Zerokruel 06-26-2012 02:32 PM

So Vader signed two different cards. I wonder if all the signers have two different cards.

thepick88 06-26-2012 03:36 PM

Hey Byron, I think they all signed 2 different ones and some possibly three. Are you getting any of these? If so maybe we can work some trades out if you can. Mason

hreed2 06-26-2012 03:39 PM
So Vader signed two different cards. I wonder if all the signers have two different cards.
Yep they all signed more than one kind of card (doesn't say if there's only 2 different versions or more). Here's the sell sheet

http://www.blowoutcards.com/forums/blowoutcards-product-information-pages-all-other-sports/292590-2012-leaf-originals-wrestling.html

I'm not a Sportsking fan AT ALL but I do like this idea for a product. Some of the artwork is BRUTAL (I'm looking at you Nash) but I actually love that Vader card! I'll probably pick up some singles!

Zerokruel 06-26-2012 03:50 PM

Gotcha, I missed the "alternate" images language there.

I never got a solicitation on this one - so I am probably going to stay away.

I don't normally collect anything, but I watched this WCW/WWF (I even watch Glow!) with my Pops religiously. So I will probably pick up a few of theses.

geoffyb 06-26-2012 10:55 PM

finally, a vader auto. if i pull one i will probably mark out. still waiting on an official checklist

Zoop 06-27-2012 01:10 AM

Vader looked great a few weeks ago on RAW. It's time! It's time!

pnft17 06-27-2012 12:29 PM

Love the green ink. Looks like other stack has red ink pen next to them. I bet we see a ton of ink color variations.

pnft17 06-28-2012 04:15 PM

Looks like signed 1/1 plates! Could be some crazy bidding on them for those looking to get all the versions of each card.

geoffyb 06-28-2012 10:45 PM

i am willing to bet that many hot boxes will contained 5 signed plates. they generally don't go for as much as you would think

Zoop 06-28-2012 11:26 PM

So incredibly excited for this break. When does it ship? Any more pics of wrestlers signing yet?

Nash

looks like with two different images/backgrounds. Variety ink colors and plates. Should be lots to chase for each card.

geoffyb 06-29-2012 11:06 AM

pics arent loading and where are you getting these from?

Zoop 06-29-2012 12:47 PM

I'd love to build a set with at least one card from each wrestler, or supercollect one guy with variants.

pnft17 06-29-2012 01:48 PM

Yeah, I got a feeling we will see some crazy bidding on some of the 1/1's, alt pictures, and rarer ink color versions.

Are pictures not working for anyone. I see them when I open the thread????

July 26 is last I heard for release. So it should be out by the National. Unless we get some guys that are slow returning cards. Does look like Leaf is getting a lot of signings done through Americon Icon shows. Who do a lot of wrestler signings.
