I hope they aren't all signed in crappy black pens. Actually, I'll never own one so what do I care?

EDITED TO ADD: Looks like they are all signed in crappy black pens. I guess I still have no reason to care.

The Retro Rated Rookies really look solid in 2016 Donruss Optic. Updated gallery with about 35 new images here >> BlowoutBuzz.com ‪#‎collect‬

This release taking Prizm's place?

dasiegel 07-21-2016 02:41 PM

I actually like the on card autos, but probably hard to pull a good one and we are still here with no uni, no license, etc.

I hate black ink as well. Blue always looks better. Don't know why they had to change something that worked.

If only they were signed in blue.

Shanksampson 07-22-2016 04:50 PM

I happen to like the black ink, not to mention the clean simple design and the rated rookie autos. This might be the only football product I purchase in 2016-17.

I just love it when "Buzz" tries to polish a turd.

bobthewondercat 07-22-2016 07:16 PM

Love the throwback donruss rated rookies designs. Can't decide if I like the black ink cuz it's different... Definitely appears just like a facsimile auto in scans...

I think the black ink is supposed to be a counterbalance to the black of the Optic logo.

I really like the design. Too bad MLB gave Topps the exclusive usage of team logos.

hairyharold 07-23-2016 12:00 AM

they look awesome i just hate the nonlicensed stuff

purejd86p 07-23-2016 12:11 AM

Really like the looks of this set. I think Panini did a good job with it.

Reverend Ghost 07-23-2016 08:20 AM

LOVE this product, hit my first super from it as well as a Seager Refractor auto and some great names on my color refractors (Trout, Correa, Schwarber, Harper) can't wait to throw some more PayPal at it.

Exactly.

I haven't heard a complaint yet from someone who has actually, you know, BOUGHT the product.

Lol true true

gottagitdemjs 07-23-2016 07:43 PM

why didn't they just call it Owman Steel. It's as close to a knock off of Bowman Chrome as you can get without using the actual Bowman Chrome decals.

briscogun 07-24-2016 09:13 AM

If this was licensed it would be a nice set, but I will never get unlincensed stuff en masse. I have a few cards for my PC guy that I picked up over the years, and even most of that I've dumped because, well, I just don't like it. It's the same as someone taking a photo of a player in street clothes and putting it on a card: "Joe Schmo, Man About Town".

Sorry, just my feelings about it.

It's a fair point and to be sure, most of us aren't as enthused about unlicensed cards. But Panini does a nice job here and there with National Treasures and these cards at least look better than most of it.
