Yet another investment question...

Hi all. I'm thinking about getting into one particular vintage card, partially because I like it but more so because I see potential in it to go up in value. I'd rather not say what card it is but it sells for about $500 in a PSA 8 and $250 in a 7. 8's have a population of about 80 and 7's about 100. Would it be wiser to buy one 8 or two 7's for my $500? I've been wondering about that for a while now. If you're looking to invest and you can buy two PSA 7's for almost the same exact price one PSA 8, which would you prefer? Interested in opinions. Thanks.

Grade and eye appeal matter significantly more IMO. Assuming eye appeal as good/better on 8 go with the 8. If you were buying for your own collection with no intent on selling go with the one with the best eye appeal. I have seen 6 better than an 8.

Depends on the card. Two well centered 7's may be better than one 8 generally.

Sometimes I find myself thinking, an 8 is an 8 is an 8. And even the worst looking 8 is still better/more valuable than the best looking 6 or 7. But that's not always the case. I get too wrapped up in the number on the holder.

As someone who has focused on well centered cards it seems the higher end ones are the ones folks want centered better. If you are collecting a full set it's not quite as important. But I agree that 2 well centered 7s would be better than a poorly centered 8 (unless you have some registry nuts needing an extra point).....

Assuming the centering is the same on all cards I would take 1 8 over 2 7s. I agree that I'd rather have a nice centered 7 over an off center or tilted 8, or one with some print defect that takes away from the eye appeal of the card.
